Cascade is a double diamond rated trail accessible off the K-1 Express Gondola at Killington. It starts with a headwall (that is barely open) that funnels into a more relaxed, groomed trail that becomes a little steep at the bottom. The difficulty comes mainly from the headwall and the last stretch before the runout trail back to the K-1 base.
No, that wasn't me reading off the sign at the beginning. I thought it was funny, though!
The day this was filmed saw temperatures of 50°F, so a lot of the snow from the storms earlier that week had quickly melted by the time the day began. However, snow coverage wasn't particularly bad given the circumstances!
Advice: The headwall is accessible behind the unloading zone of the K-1 Gondola next to the lodge. If you're not one for moguls, I recommend skipping this part, although it is where most of the difficulty comes from. The rest of the trail can be reached from Great Northern/High Traverse, or from Home Run. The lower part is a little steep, but stick to the right side of the trail if you're looking for the easiest part as that's usually where more snow is.
I found it useful to separate the trail into the headwall and the rest; do what is possible with your abilities!
Overall Difficulty (Headwall): 7/10
Overall Difficulty (Upper/Lower): 6/10
Relative Difficulty (Headwall, Double Diamond): 4/10
Relative Difficulty (Upper/Lower, Double Diamond): 2/10
Accessibility Rating: 7/10 (Headwall is only accessible from K-1 but the rest is relatively easy to get to)
Enjoyment Rating: 7/10 (overall, it was a pretty good run, although a little slushy at the top!)
I still consider myself a beginner in terms of my experience with my GoPro. I hope to improve the camera angle later on, although I am pretty satisfied with the angle in this video!
