During the 21st Annual Essence Festival, gospel and R&B stars gathered together to pay honor and tribute to the incomparable artist, vocalist, songwriter and arranger Kim Burrell. After a soul stirring performance by Jonathan McReynolds, Kim Burrell took the mic and began an impromptu mic toss with stars like India Arie, Chrisette Michelle, Anita Wilson, Jason Nelson, Isaac Carree, The Walls Group and Lalah Hathaway...who gave us a treat of self-harmonizing! You have to see and hear it for yourself!!!

Everyone was great, but I just love the mellow, smooth soulfulness of Lalah's voice. She got it from her dad because he had it in his voice too. Love them!

It just all has to do with preference, That being said I prefer Kim’s style becuz her scales are very well coordinated, whereas Ferrell as awesome as she is, is more all over the board and tooo complex to the point of getting lost or hard to follow ... Kim’s level of skill is complex as well but it all fits together and u can follow after a while and still be amazed, u never know where Rachelle will go or end up so I tend to forget what I was even listening to from beginning to end... just my preference, but hey I think Mr. Walls is on their coat tales too.. but again just my opinion
