FYI, Bettie Davis was one of the iconic women in early movies. She was known to be intelligent, smart and tough. Great actress with many films to her name.
That song is a crock. It never helped people in need in Africa. What money that wasn't eaten up in admin costs went straight to dictators, weapons and JW Black Scotch.
I miss the 80's when every singer had their own individual distinct voice. Nowadays, all the female singers sound exactly the same and you can't tell them apart.
If you like raspy, you'll love Bonnie Tyler ("Total Eclipse of the Heart" or "I Need A Hero") and Rod Stewart ("Reason to Believe" or "You're In My Heart" original versions.... and, well, any of his songs lol)
I know Im going to sound ancient, something when I as young I used to scoff at but we had the best music in the 80's. Hi to all my Gen X friends out there, lol remember when this was on MTV?
Bette Davis is an Icon Of American Films. She was famous for her take no crap/strong women roles from the 1930’s thru the 1980’s. She was an Academy Award winner and was nominated many times. She was also known for her amazingly large and expressive eyes. Glad you enjoyed the song.
OMG You couldn't walk down the streets without hearing this song about every block! Kim had that cool raspy voice that was so unique. Nice reaction! Nice try on the impersonation!! LOL
If you're not familiar with Bette Davis, I certainly would recommend watching some of her movies, Jezebel is what I would recommend, as well as Now Voyager.
One of my all-time faves! A man I knew told me this song reminded him of me. When I said, "But my eyes are nothing like Bette's,' he told me 'It's not her eyes, it's a feeling.' Then I understood the lyrics.
Angela, If you love that husky female tone, you should def check out Bonnie Tyler - Holding Out For A Hero. Came out around the same time as the song you just reacted to.
Arguably the greatest and most '80s synth riff ever, and likely the first big wide-ranging pop synth hit song. Gary Numan's "Cars" and other songs, mostly new wave songs, preceded this, but new wave was still more of a niche genre in the U.S. until '82, based on the Billboard Hot 100.
Check out if you haven't already Bonnie Tyler total eclipse of the heart Rod Stewart you should check out his long list of songs First cut is the deepest (Video where he is dressed in the yellow striped suit)
I love the article where she met with Bette Davis upon hitting #1 on the charts and going multi-platinum. Was just eight years before Ms. Davis died. Glad she got to witness it all.
Kim Carnes is fantastic. Since you like her and Karen Carpenter: try listening to Bonnie Tyler- It's a heartache _ (Official HD video). I think you'll really like her raspy voice.
Alright, Angela, I'm going to add my support to the suggestions below that you do "We Are The World", from1985. Everybody you ever saw or heard of is in that video, and a mess of folks you have yet to discover. And, btw, repeat after me, with a wall to wall smile, "Oh Man" 😁🌹👼❣️
This song spent 9 weeks as the #1 song in the USA back in the summer of 1981. 40 freaking years ago!! Ended up being the #2 song of the year, beaten out by Endless Love by Lionel Richie & Diana Ross, which spent 10 weeks at #1 during the fall of '81.
Great reaction. Your enthusiasm is always infectious. This was a big hit in the early ‘80’s. It’s always been loved or hated. Truth is it’s great but one of the weaker songs on a fantastic album “Mistaken Identity.” If you want to dig deeper listen to: “Still Hold On” “Mistaken Identity” “When I’m Away From You” I don’t think she’s ever gotten her credit and props.
Only song i know from Kim Carnes, but is one of my favorites from the 80's. Love 80's music, one of my favorite female singers from that decade, Cyndi Lauper. React to Cyndi Lauper " I Drove All Night" music video, great pop/rock tune, my favorite Cyndi Lauper song. True Colors is another great song from Cyndi Lauper, music video is awesome & song became her 2nd #1 hit in the USA.
@@conan5885 If you were around at the time you probably heard or knew "More Love" (listen to it on RU-vid) and also her duet with Kenny Rogers "Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer".
Thought of two bands who had a few songs that you might like: The band "Ambrosia" The band "Doctor Hook". I am sure there are others who feel like I do, I love seeing you groove to songs from my "generation". Interesting this new utoob "reaction" fad, with young folks exploring our collected musical heritage. You have only barely scratched the tip of the iceberg!
Ok, my crew (the 70s-80s gang) is gonna slap me around for this one...Angela, if you want some jaw-dropping vocals listen to some of Johnny Mathis from the 50s..."Misty", "My One and Only Love", others...truly amazing...Johnny's STILL performing at 85
Bette Davis was a Huge Hollywood star in the 1930s and 40s. Remember this song from the early 80s. One of the few songs that was good from that era of music.
This song went all the way to #1 on the Billboard charts. Keyboard songs capture the 80’s magic, which is my Segway for the next song you should react to…”Magic” by Olivia Newton-John. Classic 80’s!!!
You should also check out some of Kim Carnes other hit songs including "Voyeur" "Crazy In The Night" "More Love" "I'll Be Here Where The Heart Is" "Invisible Hands" She was very popular during the 1980's! And was in heavy rotation on MTV back in the day! Loved her music with her one of a kind voice!!! Also please don't forget to check out CHER's track "Save Up All Your Tears" !!
This song was the top selling single in 1981. Single as in A side = the hit song and B side often a less marketable, more challenging song, but usually only 1+1 songs on a 45 rpm or cassette. They still sold single cassettes in the mid 90s. I don't know when that as a thing phased out completely.
React to Donna Summer and Barbara Streisan "Enough is enough" aka "no more tears". Try to get the recording not the live version. I think you will love it
I wrote a paper in college. It was about a book we had to read. It was about a woman who acted innocent, but she ate the souls of every man she was with...sort of like a black widow. She would get men to fall for her, and then she would crush them. It took place in the late 1800's. in New York City. I named the paper, "As Pure as New York Snow, which I got from this song. I guess that's plagiarism in a way. My professor said she cried when she finished reading it. I always used to end my papers using the title. I'd be like blah, blah, blah, blah....as she was, "Pure as New York Snow". It was a great affect.
You should definitely check out Against the wind by Bob Seger. It has what many people say is one of the greatest lines ever written, and I am pretty sure when you hear it you will know which line I am talking about . I would love to see your reaction to it. Have a great day and keep the reactions coming.
