Let's give Senator Cotton the benefit of the doubt. I think he well knows the difference between being a Singaporean ethnic Chinese versus being a Chinese citizen. This is simply political intimidation trying to wear out Mr Chew , making him exasperated and tricking him into saying words that could be pounced upon by the Senator. This is not aobut finding the truth or facts. It's like being a prosecutor in a court case. Many US politicians are lawyers or familiar with the adversarial approach. It's a tactic. However, Mr Cotton is also a racist and is anti China and anti-Chinese (at least to those who are not subservient to US interest). He wants all Chinese students to learn only arts and literature and ban them from learning Science and STEM subjects. There are 1.4 billion people in China. Many qualified and talented people. Singapore has a population of 5 million people. Many Singaporean companies have to hire non-Singaporean CEOs because of the limited talent pool among Singaporeans. Why do you think TikTok chose a Singaporean to be the CEO?
Firstly, almost all of them are of mediocre quality. And this Cotton are of the same quality like the rest before him who come to a meeting unprepared. He felt that this sort of meeting is like the rest is just another walk in the park. His knowledge of world affair is practically zero. His questions clearly show he is just another ordinary guy in a suit making a living by dishing out propaganda and war mongering just to win vote. I am absolutely very sure he thoughts singapore is another province of China. And he is struggling to figure out this singapore is in which province of China or some town in Hong Kong. And this Chinese guy seated in front of him which is a Chinese and a CEO makes him even more assure that he must be from China. But all the answer he received make him even more confused that’s why he rephrase his questions a couple of time. At the end of the session, he still couldn’t figure out this Chinese guy that speak fairly good English must be in some town in Hong Kong.
