Even from footage I've seen taken there in the last 5-10 years, North Korea looks like the late 70s apart from some computers, phones and a few other tech items. They're 40 years behind the major civilizations.

@@UnicornsPoopRainbows the Canadian encyclopedia states they are technically still at war today. An armistice was signed but no peace treaty by international standards meaning they are still at war.

Both side military decided to call it a day for now but the politicians never signed a agreement calling it quits I guess!

@@motro1301 North Korea was actually much wealthier than their Southern counterpart until the late 70s early 80s. North Korea was naturally the industrial center of the Korean Peninsula because of its proximity to China and plentiful natural resources like iron/gold/uranium(I think). The south was originally agriculturally centered with very little urban development when the war originally broke out. My dad said that when he was a child, South Korea had propaganda very similar to that of North Korea’s on the US. Looking back, he realizes that South Korea was using the same technique that North Korea does to keep their people ignorant and dedicated.

Kim Il-Sung had a troubled childhood and he managed to build his way to the top unlike his son and grandson who had everything handed down to them. Kim Il-Sung just wanted to unite his country like it once was when Korea was the Korean Empire. He did take aggressive measures to make sure that his power was secure. But during that time, he wasn't as bad as his son and grandson.

It's simple really the topics and scripts are written and chosen by a separate team. He's just a talking head. A charismatic one who is very good at his job but he's not the brains behind the channels he represents. He was hired as a freelance voice actor. All he has to do is read a script sent to him, film himself doing it and send that video back. It's remote work that is likely done out of his home with little equipment. Literally such a small part of a project like this. Consider the topic, research, writing, editing, it's a majority of the work. That is the reason he's able to host multiple channels. Entirely feasible for him to knock out 4 of those in an 8 hour work day. Versus the literal days of work the rest of the process requires just for one video.

As a south korean im very conflicted opinions about him but yeah i agree. He was everything from left to right through out his career. The only thing he wasnt tho was he was not a infependence activist and rather worked as a japanese soldier in manchukuo which is definitely a huge flaw to be a korean leader. He was a cruel dictator but also once was some sort of a revolutionary in 1961 and drastically improved the south korean economy. But he had terrible terrible limitations in democracy starting from 1972 which practically made south korea not that different from north korea in terms of politics.

I study international relations and political science, and I have always found him to be among the most colorful figures in Korean history. Especially considering the conflicting and controversial opinions on him. He was a brutal dictator who utilized intense anti-communist ideology to oppress his people, but at the same time promoted chaebols and arguably helped Korea’s economy grow to what it was today (despite the problems of such an oligopoly). There are many different sides to that, as many would argue that he was actually a hindrance to Korea’s growth which took place in spite of his policies rather than because of them. It is extremely interesting to discuss the divided public opinion on him, as some conservatives who supported Park Geun-hye look to him as a Reagan-like figure, where as others condemn him as a tyrant. He is very hard to categorize, as he was so unique. Combine this with the obvious Cold War intrigue of involvement in Vietnam and the many North Korean assassination attempts (not to mention his ties to the Japanese Imperial Army in his early years), and I think Simon would enjoy the research and could make an amazing video. Most in the West don’t know anything about Park, and I think he’s a very interesting figure about whom many would enjoy learning!
