The Monroe dress was owned by Ripleys Believe it or Not after winning it in an auction and lent to Kim K after Kris called to complain. Unfortunately things of value gets lost throughout time due to lack of care or education, lack of finance and individual selfish agendas
@@maddylee5607 So Ripley's, Instead of standing their ground and tell Chris *WHY* Kim can't wear it, gave into the pressure. Calm down it's just a dress it's supposed to be worn There are even 2 of them so one of them is just a copy. It's the design that makes it unique and the brand can make several more it's not like a piece of art made with the artist own hands that can never be reproduced dine his dead, the seamstress that made this 2 could make a few more but then they wouldn't be exclusive and worth so much.

Non licensed institutions shouldn't have such pieces in the first place
It was *NOT* the Smithsonian who cares for that dress. If it were it would have never been allowed out of the museum. It's Ripleys belive it or not who does

I mean why are people selling these "timeless peices of art" to her? This one honestly i dont understand the significance. It was made by a designer and theres just 2. Thats its. Its rare sure but in the end its art thats meant to be worn. She had it altered to fit her its not destroyed
Why cant she just have a replica made instead of destroying iconic art pieces? You wouldn't buy the Mona Lisa and have someone paint your face over hers. Her narcissism is insane
Narcissists usually don’t care enough about art to do something like that. Preserving a piece of art would mean that they wouldn’t be able to rub it in everyone’s faces how filthy rich they are.
But people especially us,girls would make fun of her. Sure not everyone but MANY would! Don’t people try to find issues w/popular people? So, people would call her cheap and lame😐😓

PEOPLE It’s not about the clothes, it’s about the disrespect for the original artist. It’s like buying a famous painting to paint over it. Some clothes aren’t actually meant to be worn, some are specifically designed to be art pieces. And yea, Marilyn didn’t want anyone else to wear that dress, so we should respect her wishes. It was her property, and she should be able to control what happens to it.
If she didn't want it worn she should've put it on her will. Not being an asshole but being legit. Most famous people have wills early for these types of things
Okay maybe I'm wrong here but wouldn't that be plagiarism? Art theft? Like with this newest piece, idk how the designer would have felt about her knocking it off and then wearing it on the red carpet. I grasp the issue here, I'm just saying that idk if art theft is really the answer? Especially as a celebrity who can afford originals
I think she feels extremely special when she wears these dresses no one else can, that's why she is willing to destroy these pieces of history, just to feed her own ego and self-importance.

I even have a blue dress similar to that in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (mine is much easier to walk in...lol). Many of her styles were used by dollmakers - Barbie being one - Bob Mackie has multiple limited editions with Barbie. If you look at the Jem and the Holograms line, there were many influences in colour palette, and designs. The Oyster dress is horrendously ugly. I know that McQueen "pushed boundaries" of fashion, but it's inelegant despite the meaning of it being a "female warrior emerging from beneath the battered shell". I also fail to see why no-one has mentioned the first owner, Angie Barrett, who wore the dress to The (Beaux) Art Ball at Cannes FF in 2003. Despite not being a fan of the Kardashians, WHY is everyone obsessing over a dress from the 2020 oscars? At the Met Gala, KK changed into the gown in a dressing room at the bottom of the steps, and then into a replica of the Diamond dress for the remainder of the event.
Exactly! Like, yeah Kim is acting hella weird by ruining massive pieces of recent history, but who the hell is selling these things to her or the person who bought these things for her, like… they’re enabling them to pull these sort of stunts!
She DID IN FACT have a recreation with her exact measurements of the Marilyn Monroe dress, but decided las minute to just wear the actual dress. The outrage is not just that the museum lent her the dress, but apparently they did so because she PROMISED them that she only wanted it to make a faithful replica, and obviously LIED.

I've gone a bit far with this I have to admit, but I'm pretty damn sure you wouldn't want people messing with and breaking your stuff.
Why do people keep saying she ruined the Marilyn dress? How did she ruin it exactly? Because if you watch the episode where she wears it, you can see how meticulous she is about preserving it in its original state.
Not to Borrow is absolutely correct. Let them sell the piece. But they should not lend out museum pieces! Isn't that what a museum is for - preservation? Not ruination?

I don't know why she bought the second oyster dress and then paid a 3rd party to alter it, rather than just getting in contact with the house of Alexander McQueen and getting them to make her one to her measurements. That's literally what couture is, and I can't imagine them refusing to do it for her (or do it for Kanye, on her behalf, seeing as it was a gift).
They wouldn’t have made it because the person who made it is no longer alive. It being archival I am surprised they let her have it. But fashion houses won’t just jump to remake an archival piece for anyone. They may have been okay to make something similar, but archival pieces hold their worth because they are never remade.
