No wonder Yijin was one of a kind, personally never seen a similar character in kdrama before, as what Joohyuk said “rather than being tsundere and cold” that means he was supposed to be the male lead we all know, but he changed it a bit to be even better 💃🏻 good job
riighttt, i loved yi jin so much. I'm soooo glad he's not the flirty, cold, tsundere type cuz that is a turn off somehow, there are many other male leads like it, so im glad yi jin is so unique. it also made him more suitable for na hee do's innocent crazy character.
I like Joo Hyuk idea adding a little bit of dumbness and cuteness to Yi Jin character instead of pure tsundere flirty type which is too fictional and boring. His idea makes Yi Jin character more warm, realistic and human. I like all characters. Kim Tae Ri did a good job pottraying an 18y high school girl, her emotion, her gestures was on point.
I like how Nam Joo Hyuk put a different vibe to his character. Yijin must have been someone who was a tsundere type, but NJH successfully portrayed the character with a lot of charms. That made Baek Yijin we see in the drama more appealing and unique compared to other typical male leads.
Basically NJH made the character more like himself. it suits beak yi jin so well and thank god yi jin was not portrayed as flirty and cold because a flirty nature doesn't suit ji jin
Exactly he is the best male lead character in these day kdramas , his realistic ,funny ,kind, warm nature is so beautiful . His eyes is full of affection for HeeDo
His character being more warm and not so "tsundere like", as he said, is actually the thing that keeps me watching the show (besides Kim Taeri cause I started it just because of her, I love her sm). I think you can tell how unique and thoughtful his scenes are by first watch and it's refreshing seeing a male protagonist that doesn't follow the typical cold behavior. I haven't caught up on the show yet but so far I'm loving it.
I think NJH did a great job changing the character like that, otherwise Beak Yijin and Heedo would be the typical Cold guy Hyper Girl trope that's straight out of mangas. Now they're really warm and kind and feels a bit like a dumb and dumber lol. And the way Taeri calls him "Joohyukie" 😍 they must be close
ahhh now i know why JooHyuk can laughing like it's the best day of his life. it is the best moment for him when his idea went well. thank you JooHyuk and Taeri.! I'm happy how they work together. sharing idea in this project. i think because TaeRi is easy going and familiar to other it make JooHyuk feel comfortable work with her. no wonder drama 2521 became so great. i wish they can work together again in other project. i'm sure it will be awesome ^^
He wasnt that good before tbh, all his characters are portrayed the same way. But he really improved a lot and it shows in his character of baek yi jin.
Wow well Joohyuk really modified Baek Yijin for the better b/c I prefer this somewhat reserved but very warm and thoughtful and soft guy WAY more to any tsundere character! Credit to Joohyuk b/c Baek YiJin is so compelling and wonderful and makes me swoon
I love this drama so much! I didn’t know they change the script until now but I’m happy they didn’t go for the usual cold boy and jolly girl. I love that they did and deliver it just perfectly for what the settings is supposed to be. This drama brings out perfectly what the 90’s era teenage, adult, dating and relationships was like! Its innocent, simple, gentle, slowly and most of all REAL! May I add the fashion, slowly changes into technology and how hardworking people used to be like when they dream of something. There are so many issues that was tackled here, wether at school, economy and at home. I could go on just to tell how good this drama really is!
Now, I can't imagine Yijin being a total tsundere one... I'm totally in love with this version of Yijin, cool yet dumb yet smart yet warm yet cold sometimes 😍
Baek Yi Jin character is realistic character . Thank you Nam Joo Hyuk. I really like his character is not a jerk like many drama leads. He is very warm ,nice, cute ,honest ,confident not arrogant ,funny and serious with mood .This little humor is lovely too.
I am glad that nam joo hyuk change a bit of baek yi jin's character. Pretty sure the script-version of baek yi jin is more like melancholy-calm-perfect-tsundere type. But the little dumbness he put in it make his character more interesting.
is it me or with kim tae ri, nam joo hyuk is really more laid back? more mature I have the impression that it makes him much more complete. With other actresses I didn't have this impression, really good pair of couple.
joohyuk is such a genius he really fleshed the character of yijin so well no wonder it was him planning those little character defining moments himself. so fresh and authentic!
Tbh NJH was made for Melodramas, his acting is very subdued and his eyes does a lot of that work which doesn't always translate well in a rom-com. Melodramas lets the characters expression simmer and gives the viewer time to digest the actor's expression which is perfect for an actor like NJH, the way he shows and anger and despair is the best I've ever seen in an actor in a long time. I'd love if he continued to bank on that strength, it's not everyday you find an actor so good at showcasing anger -- of all emotions -- so poignantly that's some insane talent.
That is why it is very addicting to watch every episode, I watch them 3 times. This is the drama series Nam Joo Hyuk make me fall in love to him and his character and to his leading lady as well, the whole story itself too. Adding up, the Music. ❤️🎶❤️😭 And he makes me cry.
I looove nam joohyuk's portrayal of baek yijin. he was a model student, had to work hard after his parents went bankrupt. He had low self-esteem because of that and found encouragement through heedo. I found his character endearing and the warmess really tied in the drama a lot. Youth and dreams.
Nam Joohyuk is a genius telling the viewers what he did to the character Back Yijin , I love the story that is why I am so disappointed and heartbroken to the end that Na Heedo didn’t end up with him . I was so immersed with the story that I cried even I am done watching it , which is by the way 5 times now just to convince myself and accept the ending . I love them both , they are great actors and the story is amazing, compliment to the writers or writer . GodBless 💜
Thank you for the subs!!! I am so curious as to what some examples of what he changed are! I hope we get another interview like this after the drama has aired. His sweet puppy dog qualities are what makes Baek Yijin so special!
I love how njh adds a little bit of himself in every role he does. Like joon hyung from weightlifting fairy, nam dosan from start up and baek yijin from 25 21. He makes them more human and endearing
YESSS. Male leads nowadays are aaalways cold and tsundere-like. He gave his character an actual personality. He does this is in all of his dramas and that’s why they always end up being my favorite :))
Omg I am so glad he did what he did because I loved his character so much for being real and human. I'm so tired of the typical male leads and it was refreshing to see someone show struggle, softness and maturity in that way. I hsvent watched that many dramas but I can't remember a ML like that.
Thanks for sharing that~ ^_^ I'm glad he made it more real and gave a lot of his own touches. I wouldn't have liked a tsundere style protagonist. He is so approachable and honourable in his portrayal.
MEANING YOU BOTH #NAMKIM ARE VERSATILE ACTOR WITH AMAZINGLY GOOD QUALITY VIBES HOPE TO SEE YOU BOTH TOGETHER AGAIN IN A SERIES WE LOVE YOUR CHEMISTRY ❤🙏
He was innocent like weightlifting fairy. There was not a less then sincere moments between the two. At that age career outweighs relationships for many despite sincerity. That’s why I am not too upset about the ending. They showed a slice of life from the past. It happens to many. Well done everyone, director, actors and writers. The whole team.
Perhaps and I say this with a little chagrin, perhaps because the Na Hee Do character reminded me so much of Kim Bok Joo, he went with a different Baek Yijin than on the page. More silly than cold and tsundere to match a little of her exuberance as Hee Do. Because I get get a whole lot of the same vibes to Hee Doo as I do with Kim Bok Joo. There is a great deal of playfulness between those two main characters in each of the series.
rightt, hee do sometimes remind me of bok joo, though theyre still different in many ways. I love how njh changed byj to someone better, otherwise it would be the cold guy-pure girl concept you always see in mangas.
imo heedo is very different from bok joo. She may seem silly and dumb but she has suffered through a lot and shine bright. Sometimes what heedo is saying really philosophical. She's a tomboy cutie with so much innocence. i didn't feel that passion with bok joo
@@blackant3436 well you may be right that she isn't really like much Bok Joo. But I still do believe, Nam Joo Hyuk still made the character even more charming. I don't think the character in the script is so different, but it's just that, it has more charms and Nam Joo Hyuk really did own him!
I like how there's a huge contrast between how Yijin acts with Hee Do versus others and I think a big part of that has to do with Joohyuk's changes, I'm sure if he didn't do that then he would've remained that mature cool type rather than the playful one we all know and love
Despite being very mature like Jipyeong, Yijin is very humane and empathetic like Dosan. Like he said here, the dumb cute charm NJH adds works really well here!
So cute when Kim Taeri said "I think you added five spoons" 😂 they're my favorite kdrama couple that I've watched so far, I like that his character was sometimes a little awkward and goofy, so sometimes in their scenes heedo and yijin could be more playful and silly too
So he do an amazing work with that little changes, if he had stayed as in the script he would be another handsome guy from kdrama but know we have a gorgeous Baek Yi-Jin :')
He makes his character more realistic than the ones based on the script. Which is a good thing cuz i can relate to his character more than the ones in the script like the cold tsundere type.
UGH IM SO GLAD JOOHYUK MADE YIJIN CUTE AND GOOFY, that's literally what made me fall in love with him. We don't need any more girls falling in love with cold male leads only bc of their good-looking faces lol (ex. true beauty oop)
Lol I’m now wondering if the couple head-touching while watching fireworks is one of his ad-libs? He truly lives Baek Yi Jin :”> lol too sweet to be true haha
He did a great job though 👏 Baek Yijin could easily be the warmest male character in K-drama history, seeing him struggling with trauma and depression was painful to watch 🥺
Wow. Im so impressed with NJH in this drama because i always used to find his acting a little awkward to watch. I think his acting as BYJ was perfect especially bec if he did act as the usual kdrama lead his rship with NHD would not have been as special.
So what I'm hearing is that he basically carried the whole show... "cold, flirty, tsundere" sounds like an awful baek yi jin and I'm so glad he made the character feel like a real person.
It seems similar to what happened with Han Jipyeong from Start Up: a character written as colder than he ended up being because the actor brought warmth and a different way of reading the lines which results in something really different and interesting.
these days i love watching drama where the main lead is dumb and funny..i remember watching OBS and i love how choi woo shik portrays choi ung 🤣.. and now nam joo hyuk portrays baek yijin 🤣🤣🤣
