I have an SR1911 45ACP Commander that's been flawless and had an SR1911 Lightweight Officer that was also flawless with 1000 rounds through it. I got a Kimber GFO 10mm jammed constantly, had a Rapide Black Ice 45ACP, and it also jammed all the time. I followed all of Kimbers' instructions to a T! They are gone now, I do like my K6XS alot, their revolvers are definitely nice.
Absolutely. My Ruger only jammed once in 5,000 rounds. My Kimber in 45 ACP was constantly jamming. Lets just say I don't have the Kimber anymore. The only Kimber I own is the Micro 380. It only jammed once early on, but has been consistent ever since. My friend had the Micro 9 and that kept jamming. He sold it.
Unfortunately I was lucky enough to get a lemon, the 40th round was what killed it. The fitment on it was so tight that the slide got stuck on the barrel after a few shots. Ruger fixed the problem and I haven’t had a problem with it since. I just think the edges on the trigger is a little too sharp
Ive shot both of these guns, and after my own comparison, i opted for the Ruger 45 acp I spent a little more and got the target model versus the standard model. Its an amazing piece and is smooth as butter. The tolerances are way tighter and its all made from the same bar stock for durabilty and consistency. I use it at the range and as a bedside gun. Ive carried it at times, but for my full time carry, i use a 9 mm Glock 19 gen 4.
Misses, Gun jams, and throws rounds to the left…. That’s the one I want? You can get a Ruger Lightweight Commander if weight is an issue. Most reviews I have seen rank Ruger pretty high especially given the price point.
I originally had malfunctions with the Kimber Stainless II 45 acp. Then I bought newer mags with 8-round capacity and have not had a malfunction since.
I was in the Corps when the 1911's were the sidearm. Because of my MOS my TO weapon was the 1911. Every one I have fired has had rattle and slop but fired accurately and dependably. The 1911 got the gov contract by disassembling 100 pistols, mixing the parts and reassembling all 100 and they had to fire. You can't do that with today's high tolerance pistols. The parts have to be fitted and they have a break in period. I have had Kimber, S&W performance center, and a Colt competition and got rid of all of them. The best out of the box perfornance I have got in a 1911 so far has been Girsan officers, Taurus PT1911 and now my SR1911 cmdr. Give me the slop any day!
Slide and frame fit is only 5% of the accuracy. Its the tight fit of the barrel to slide and bushing to slide and bushing to barrel that makes a 1911 accurate. A little rattle in a 1911 is a good thing for reliability and dependability.
I have both , but sold the ruger. The ruger grip safety gave my hand blister when firing, the kimber did not. Also ruger frame is cast and Kimber is forge.
I don't carry a 1911, I carry a tiny 380 acp, however my Kimber Stainless II I bought circa 2021 is pretty nice. Usually, I can fire 250-300 rounds before I have to clean it.
Good honest review. Thanks. I've been shooting 1911s since 1973 and it's still my favorite pistol for CCW. And honestly, I never had much luck with Kimber. But all guns can potentially fail and as you know, all 1911s require a bit more preventive maintenance than other models. Extractor adjustment, weak recoil springs, carbon build up and not enough lubrication are what I've found to be the main culprits. But they can also be ammo picky. Federal has worked the best for me because of consistency in tolerances. Their HST hollow points feed well because of the proper ogive measurements. I had new Springfield EMP 9mm Ronin fail repeatedly right out of the box. Sent it back and they did major work on it. Still had some occasional FTF incidents. Had a new Dan Wesson Specialist 9mm 5" fail right out of the box with hammer follow. It was repaired and has since run about 4,000 rounds zero malfunctions. My Wilson Combat full size 1911 45 ACP has run flawlessly though about 6,000+ rounds. Keep up the good work.
Thank you, I think the kimber was a little picky with the Winchester ammo I was using in this video (FMJFN) however wasn't a issue with the Ruger. Stripped both down cleaned and oiled right after this video. May in the future do a video on each and the ammo that functions best for each.
I've found simple things like just using top notch wilson combat mags fix ftf issues better springs carrier has a better profile. Love my kimber ammo it likes(hornady critical duty) runs flawless .
@@NukeCult666 I think you're spot on with the Wilson mags. And that's one of my first interventions when I have problems too. Glad your Kimber runs well, and I have some friends who love their Kimbers because theirs do run well.
I currently own both.... I'll take the Ruger any time, any place over my kimber. You had a failure with the kimber and that's what you'll carry...?? Reliability is everything.
PSA: I have the Ruger and the eight-round mag is trash. It uses the same spring as the seven-round. Dump that and get som Sig Sauer or Wilson Combat 1911 mags.
My EDC is a Kimber ultra carry II and I took it apart cleaned it and buffed the rails and feed ramp then went and fired 500 rounds thru it and I swear by my Kimber. This is all what personally feels best to each and every one out there. I dont think most of the commenters here have actually ever handled a Kimber or followed the break in process and understand that close tolerance firearms no matter the manufacturer have to broken in. The reason so many GI issues 45's rattle is they have fired thousands if not 10's of thousands of rounds in their lifetime. Choose what you EDC wisely as all are not created equal.
I own a Ruger SR1911. Out of the box it was fantastic. Would chew up the x-ring at 20 yards. Using full power FMJ's and JHP's. Also have a Kimber Ultra Raptor II in .45ACP. Took it to the range and fired a couple boxes of FMJ. No issues what so ever. Then switched to JHP and on just about every shot would have a failure to feed. Ended up sending it back to Kimber. Not sure what they did but it will now feed and extract without any issues.
Own the kimber lw shadow 45 and indeed the ruger lw 45( oct 2023).Kimber zero drama, ruger after 6 range trips the same.I can shoot either the same. The k is my edc, ruger is a Well made pistol and cheaper otd cost.Ammo I may suggest the winchester 185 fmj(I use it on at least 2 mags ) warming up.Yeah I switch to 230 but use Defender or precision one.I clean my pistols wether it's a few rds or 50,they just run better.Have owned the kimber almost a yr so,yeah its a easy shooter, the ruger is great and with time see no huge downside.id recommend either comes down to preference.
The old Kimbers yes 10yrs ago but the way they make them now no. Man you know you like that Ruger better you just couldn't say it, I will take that Ruger all day have 2 of them
My kimber malfunction till about after 500 rounds,I nicknamed it jam master k,jammed once every magazine ,after that, it’s been flawless. The kimber needs to be broken in. A little side note, I switched to Wilson combat magazines and that took care of my mishaps.
Cool video . I love 1911’s .. I bought me a compact RIA. it’s very accurate and fun to shoot, but I’ve been getting some stoppages. The slide is locking back prematurely with rounds still in the magazine. Supposedly it needs a 500 round break in and I’m only at 250 rounds. hopefully it clears up after the 500 rounds because I really enjoy shooting it. I just wish it would stop jamming.
Food for thought. I had a Kimber Warrior that did the same thing. After 700 rounds, it still locked back with rounds left. A gunsmith installed a stronger plunger spring and it fixed it. Cost was less than $20 with him installing it.
30 years ago i would say the Kimber is better 10 years ago I would say the Ruger is better however we are full circle again and the new Kimbers are really nice and i would say better than the Ruger. Not saying I wouldnt buy the Ruger but the Kimbers have a better fit and finish now.
I had both of these. Sold the kimber to a friend and the barrel cracked within 50 rounds which is about how many I had put through it after new. It was just a worse gun. Right down to fit and finish. Kimber wouldn't stand behind it because he was second owner even though the gun was less than 4 months old. He paid for a barrel and got rid of it. Ruger stands tall behind their guns. I love my ruger and the kimber is crap.
It’s really not a tuff choice Kimber is Garbage I have the sr1911 and my cuz has the Kimber and guess what he has same issue as you un reliable pretty gun is not always the way to go kind of like a pretty girls deep down she got problems
Honestly, wasn't expecting the kimber to have any issues during the video but you shouldn't expect it either. Lol Ruger has always been reliable regardless of the ammo I've thrown through it.
Ruger = Defend My Life, Kimber = Unreliable Jamming Range Princess. The only caliber I have had sucess with from Kimber is my Micro 380. All the other Kimbers i have owned or have been around from friends and family had constant jamming issues. Those were all in 9mm and 45acp.
I have had 4 kimbers, even after 400 rd. Break in and wilson mags, it always jamed constantly. There just pretty paper weights. Don't ever by a kimber. You have been warned.
Ruger 💪 just like the kimber also. When I was looking at 1911's I was looking at ruger or Springfield. They were O.O.S so i picked up the kimber, just impressed me personally. Wasn't expecting the video to play out like that but it did, so I posted honestly.
When i was looking at them to buy first choice was the Ruger, wanted the SS frame but its usually out of stock everywhere lol but i agree. The Kimber will surprise you though.
Yeah, well, before I had both wouldn't have looked at the Kimber the same way! Ruger definitely more reliable when it comes to a wider range of ammo! Slightly different comparison with all stainless steel vs aluminum frame. Love for all guns here. I wasn't expecting that out of the kimber but that's how the video played out so that's what I posted.
That ruger will outlast and outrun any kimber made. And ruger will fix it for free long past when we are all in the ground. Best u.s. gun company period!!!
I can't tell you how many times I've stumbled into Ruger 1911's new and used, got all giggly and excited, just to be dismally disappointed with the Ruger slop either in frame and slide fit or the barrel bushing slop, or both. One time I put some downward pressure on a CMD 45 barrel hood and it dropped like a car tire on a lawn that's just experienced a week of straight rain. It was brutal. So imagine my surprise after passing on Ruger 45 acp pistols for over 10 years when one of these newish release 6792 Ruger full size 5" lightweight models came in and I begrudgingly picked it up and found the frame and slide fit correct, the barrel bushing with no play, the barrel hood solidly staying put under applied downward pressure, hardly any rattle when shaken, a pretty decent 5-6 pound trigger that "pops" back to reset, decent sight aggangement, and plenty accurate? I actually decided to buy it and I wasn't expecting that either. I paid 650 but PSA was running them yesterday for 550. Hell of a surprise I mean to tell you. The first 120 rounds with a few brands of ball, 3 or 4 different magazine brands, all loaded to max capacity +1 in the chamber, ran straight through, zero malfs. It's hard to believe but it's true.
@mikehoward6981 I own a lot of Ruger, love all of them they are all great guns, longevity and quality out of box! The kimber just surprised me personally!
I'm a Ruger guy my favourite company in the gun business as good as Smith & Wesson and half the price, kinda like Peavey is as good as Marshall but a quarter of the price
Well obviously you are a Kimber fan so you’re gonna pick a Kimber even is never around fired one round but the people that carry 1911 every day the better life on it it’s gonna be packing a Ruger.
I'm actually a ruger fan, I own several! My wife carries a ruger. I only got the kimber cause the ruger was oos originally 2 days after I ordered the Kimber, back in stock ruger came lol so I ended up with both about the same time. Kimber builds nice guns and it surprised me. Would I buy another ruger maybe in 10mm, yep! All day. Thanks for watching
Hey Slim, loose the damned dark glasses and your credibility will go through the roof!!! I'm outta here before the end of the video. I'll try you again in the future and if you continue to hide behind the dark glasses that will be it!!!
