I enjoyed the time I had with my family during my kinaalda. There are also difference on how girl will spend her day depending on where her family is from; example my mother's family the girls work hard from sun up to sun down, as my dad's side of the family you sit and enjoy the company visiting with various friends and family who come. Most time the kinaalda will take place at the maternal grandmothers place or where the mother was raised.
Just to say its alot of work, i had mine last week and my legs are trembling still from the running, and i cant celebrate my birthday anymore and my birthday is in 3 days
0:44 This was probably by a Native artist, but looks like Arthur Okamura's work. Survivor of the Japanese American WWII prison camps. Did many illustrations for books of literature and poetry. In the 1972 film 'The People," the alien children's art telling the story of their home planet were all done by him.
I did mine in March actually, it was actually fun to do everything,it snowed at mine and I’m surprised that I actually ran 4 laps in the cold,I’m proud to be Navajo,p.s many said my cake was good so I was happy about that
No just on the last night. You stay up all night with the medicine man and some of the relatives (mom, grandma, aunt, basically all the females in your family, dad, uncle.) and sing traditional songs. All our songs tell a story of how our culture and how my people came to be. And some of the songs are prayers too. You sing until sunrise without a break. This is to ensure the girl has a bright blessed future as a Diné (Navajo) the last night is the same as the other 5 nights but much crucial. After she completes the last day she is now recognized by the gods as their child and she is now a Navajo women 💞💞🥺
