Amazon just updated the whole Kindle lineup and announced four new Kindles, and the biggest update to the lineup is definitely the Kindle Colorsoft, which is Amazons first Color ereader.
So let’s check out what these new Kindles are all about and start with the Kindle Colorsoft before coming to the new Kindle Basic, Paperwhite and Scribe.

I wonder how people who’ve only used Kindles and know nothing about colored eink screens will react to the Colorsoft. I can already imagine negative reviews about the muted colors and darker screen. With that price point I feel like it won’t be well received

I do want a color kindle, but why 7 inch? Useless. At 7 inch i read text, but i’m not going to look at magazines or comic books or pdfs where color really comes into play. Ok, not useless, but nit something that makes me want to buy it. If it was 10 inches at least i’d be ordering asap, but not this one.

That makes more sense. I have the pocketbook inkpad 3 and honestly the colorfilter on detailed color content gets mushed at that size. You really need around 10 inches for detailed comics. B&W is fine and some simpler comics are fine. But anything remotely detailed like a macfarlane page is garbled.

All colour e-ink screens are too small to read colour comics on them. Not 1 or 2, literally all are smaller than either american or european size comic pages. And at 7'' they're smaller than most manga as well. Not to mention that the actual aspect ratios tend to not go hand in hand with want print is has been or is using anywhere in the world. Even your 10'' would be significantly smaller than most comics. That's not to say you couldn't read Batman on a 10'' screen, the same way you can read most manga on even 6'' devices. This will only be useful for colour manga, and that's not the norm. At present, most colour screens are only gimmicks that add some vibrancy to your reading of otherwise black and white books and manga. This is not a comic book reading device. At least not a western comic book reading device.

@@AlucardNoir Still I was fine reading comics on the 9.7” iPad, so a color scribe would be good enough for me. It doesn’t have to be exactly the same size as the print version, just large enough to be enjoyable even if I have to pan vertically a bit (I don’t know the ratio of the scribe, but with the original iPads fit to width worked fine and had to scroll vertically a bit at the bottom of the page. This way it was approximately the same as the print size.) With the 11 inch iPad Pro no scrolling needed at all. So I would be happy with the scribe in color I think. (And colors are much more dull on the printed comics than they are on an iPad as well, so I don’t mind if it’s not that vibrant)

@@eriong.7446 I used to think like you, then I encountered some manga with really small notes on the side, some wall text comics and so on. Some manga can be read on you phone, even if the art can't be truly appreciated, some need a bigger screen than a 7" because of how much text is on the page, and because even if the publisher asks for money for an official translation, if the manga is old there's a nonzero chance the bastards just scanned their own translation fro the 90s, including the piss poor printing, ink bleeding and text that's really not readable if the page is under a certain size. Same for comics. And double page spreads with text on them are the worse, apreciate the art, then go read the text panel by panel.

I returned my Scribe because the distance between the pen and the text was big for me to feel comfortable even the lag ( or lack of ) was amazing. After that i got a boox tab 10.3 and It feel better for me even it has bigger lag. I want a scribe but I hope the reduce that distance...

@@pspsmallz And I'm thinking it's more than the Kobo Libra Colour, which is pen-enabled. That doesn't sound like a great deal. I would expect Amazon to either undercut the competition on price or show off some next level display tech, but I don't think this does either.

The Colorsoft is kind of a disappointment, TBH. It's got the same washed-out screen as other color e-readers we've seen, at a higher price. The Colorsoft is $279, whereas the Kobo Libra Colour is $219 *and* is pen-enabled. I'm not in the market for a new e-reader, but I don't think I would be looking seriously at a Kindle right now, if I were.

On top of that, they're severely lacking in the compact department. They sold me on the small form factor with the Voyage, then left me dry, I tried the signature edition when it came out, 6 months later I bought a Verse Pro, and now a Verse Pro Color, and I haven't looked back. Really owing my device, without having to hope for some hacker to develop a jailbreak just to use Koreader, also sweetened the deal.

No impressive features at all... Amazon is such a big letdown, tbh... They released the Kindle Basic in matcha color-okay, cool. Then, the Kindle Paperwhite 12th generation with almost the same features as the Kindle Paperwhite 11, and its Signature version with more memory. A colored Kindle similar to the Kobo Clara, but Clara is $180 and the Kindle is $280 😂 With tacky green and raspberry colors, no annotation on the page allowed, no stylus compatibility, and no buttons? Buttons could have sold me since I'm annoyed when my Kindle skips pages with touch and I read spoilers 😤... And don't forget the same boring, overpriced Scribe. Nah, man. I'm getting the Kobo Libra Color.

Love my Kobo libra color... Love the buttons on the side... I downloaded all my Kindle books that I BOUGHT AND PAID FOR and stripped off the DRM and loaded them on my Kobo and backed them up on my laptop and external hard Drive... love my books!!!

Can i ask which one is better for a first time e-reader among the following? (these are just what i got thats compact and colored from your reviews): Kobo Libra Color? Pocketbook Era Color? Boox Go Color 7? - I like the idea of colored e-books for much better comic viewing - android e-books is a plus too - I also like more compact size because i have very small hands - I also like if its compatible with pen (but prob not a priority) - I prob would hate bad ghosting - prefer more friendly user interface but more options for screen customization for user's preference - overall easy to use and not much of restrictions I know there's not a single ebook that will have all of those. But im planning to buy soon and i wanna get the best based on my preferences and its so confusing 😢 Love your channel btw! Subscribed already. And thank you so much in advance! ❤

@@soldadorap Even though the Amazon store is massive, it's an ecosystem built to "trap" you. I like the more universal, compatible Kobo system. Also, no ads, much cleaner interface; it's easy to sideload books from other stores without changing the ebook format; integration with local libraries. Also the Libra colour has a nice price, it's comfortable, fast, it has physical buttons, annotation support (when I read work books)... A well rounded product I really enjoy using.

I use my 10" Fire Tablet to read my Kindle books for no more than I would pay for a Kindle. I don't normally read in sunlight so it works just fine for me.

I'm so happy now I went with the Pocketbooks Era Color , when I replaced my Oasis half a year ago. I love this form factor and that Amazon just dropped it and added it not as a new Colorsoft is extremely weird.

Now everything but the scribe looks like a fat Paperwhite. I loved the Voyage, now I'm on a Verse Pro Color. And, just like you, plenty of people jumped off of kindle because they've abandoned a form factor they got used to.

Wrapping text around annotations looks great, but it they ever or already have links to and from pages, all links after the annotation and throughout the rest of the book would have to be updated as the annotation would bump text off the end of the page, and onto the next.

unfortunately, the charging port of my kindle voyage has decided to call it quits a few days ago 😢 i love its page press feature and will dearly miss it! as i’m unsure about how the graininess that’s being mentioned in connection with the color e-readers will look like to me, i ended up ordering the pw signature edition 🤷🏼‍♀️ my favorite option would’ve been a new voyage with usb-c, or, alternatively, an oasis. thanks for putting together all the information, though!

Why didn't they make the kindle scribe color? Remarkable upgraded theirs, I would have thought Amazon's next move would be to upgrade the kindle scribe. Or is the Kindle ColorSoft one also a note taking device? I'm confused. I already have a kindle scribe for one year. I love it. I use it every day. But, if I could have a kindle scribe color, I would love to upgrade some day. (also do you know when they will update the software to include the ai thing and the notetaking thing on the old kindle scribe?) I just checked and I didn't see any of that on mine.

I'm hoping for the Scribe to fit my needs. I want a 10" tablet for writing my short stories, but haven't found THE device. I've security concerns with Boox & Bigme. Remarkable 2 is old, the new one too expensive (i don't need color). I'm hoping for a low latency and "on the fly" convertion of my handwriting.

Salaam Chalid, need some help narrowing down a choice of the e-ink device to pass the time at work waiting for calls if possible with the only requirement of the device being 1) no cameras, 2) Android operation to download apps I might want to use, and 3) I like to read light novels on the internet. Only choice tu use android apps is Boox, they have a wide array of readers, from Palma to Tab mini C, Go 6 being the latest.

You clearly know nothing. Kindles are meant for reading not drawing and Kaleido is miles better than Gallery for that. Gallery has very sluggish refresh and response time, bad battery life, not as detailed as Kaleido.

@@abc98114 Did you reply to the wrong person? I have 5 devices including the pocketbook inkpad 3 which I've used since it came out day one. The newest rendition of gallery 3 is not only way better looking, its more color accurate and handles color reproduction better. The way the dithering can be used is a godsend for gradations. That said I never mentioned reading or drawing. So maybe it was a mistake but there you go now you know either way.

Actually, according to the video, after writing on top of the text, the Kindle Scribe reflows the text around your scribble. Pretty awesome (and advanced) solution! Finally, a much better option for textbooks I would think (unless they are bound to PDF type constraints). Hope the software update comes soon for my existing Scribe!

Being confused is a human thing. I have a Kindle signature. Though a few years old, it's a great reader, but it will play Audible books! Two issues with the Audible books though. The kindle signature has no speakers & you have to connect to an external Bluetooth device. The other issue is the volume control feature on the Kindle only works in steps. Example: If you are on volume step 3, and you want to increase the volume, you can go up one step, 4. But if step 4 is too loud, there is only the option of going back down to step 3 again! 😮 You can't simply slide the volume control to like 3.5, or anything in between. Sure you can adjust volume on the Bluetooth device to get the volume you want, but it just another thing you have to do🎉. It is something I that I would want actually Amazon to fix. Outside of this buying the Kindle Signature is a good purchase. 😎🤔 Good luck!

I am assuming from your overview that the new products in the KINDLE lineup do not run Android, and still lack the function of downloading apps from other sources. I am not surprised at this, but a little disappointed. I love reading on the Scribe, but I have a source for daily devotional reading that must be downloaded as an app. It cannot be accessed from the Kindle library. I keep playing with the idea of switching to the Boox Tab Mini C but we shall see. I look forward to your full reviews of the new KINDLE devices. Thanks.

The price is on the higher side. But probably because this is a signature edition. Maybe once enough people have preorderd they will release a normal colorsoft. Even with comic books 32 gb is too much. 16 gb should be good enough and without wireless charge a normal option can easily be offered for like 230, just like kobo clara. Let's hope.

I'm coming back to this, because I wanted to have another look. :) Here's what makes me wary: At 0:28 you have a picture from Amazon showing the screen for the Colorsoft. You can definitely tell that it's a color screen. You can see colors on the screen. But in all honesty, it looks washed-out AF. It's nowhere near as vivid as the e-readers you show at 0:46. But then at 1:33 the colors look a lot more vibrant. So I think Amazon might be doing some funny business with their images.

I just picked up the Kindle HD 10. It seems to be working for me. I ordered a paper texture screen protector and pen. I like that I can dim it sufficiently at night. And the round edges are comfortable to hold. 10 inches is big enough to give me that comic book feeling. I was able to bury the android aspects and keep it feeling like an ereader first and foremost. Also it was only $135 at BJ's warehouse, plus $15 to turn off advertising at amazon.

The difference between color and B&W for all other manufacturers is between 20 and 30 $/€ only Amazon upcharges you 100€ for color on a Paperwhite "signature edition" which is already a 30€ upcharge for Wireless charging and a luminosity sensor. I'm on a Verse Pro Color right now, a 6" with physical buttons, rotation sensor, and an included cover I paid the same as the base Paperwhite and it actually fit my pocket.

That's the thing that's most disappointing to me. My hope was that Amazon would either undercut other companies on price, or introduce a color Kindle with a better screen. If it's just going to be the same screen at a similar price to other vendors, what's the point? The point just seems to be to get on the bandwagon.

I actually tossed my paper white because it was so bright I couldn't use it to read myself to sleep and it had no inverse function to turn it black with white text. Got tired of moving it around my dresser and never using it. Ugh. So now they make it brighter, Genius.

the kindle paperwhite does have the function to inverse black and white colors. Also you can adjust the light to a very low level or turn it off.

Yeah, I recently purchased a Boox Go Color 7. It was less than the Colorsoft and has way more features than the Kindle. I think the Page would be a good choice unless you want color. I read comics on my Go Color 7.

@@KW4TIM thank you so much! I dont read comic, only books. Sounds like Page is the best choice. I'm waiting for BF sales, hopefully there will be deals.
