I bought my Paperwhite about a year ago and I liked the idea of it, but was skeptical. Paperbacks were my favorite and I never thought that an e-reader would compare. Now that I have had my Paperwhite for a year, I absolutely love it! I can read in bed without disturbing my husband, it's easy to grab and go and there are so many books that I can read on it. (Libby and Hoopla are both fantastic!) While I still love my physical books, my Kindle has quickly become my favorite electronic device. I adore it!
I use both paper books and the Kindle. I use it primarily for reading at night...so I don't have to carry a 700 page, hardcover Stephen King book 😉 but also for the nightlight. Lately, Ive been trying to read the Kindle if I wake up in the night instead of watching RU-vid. This has helped me sleep better! I don't know if it's just me, but I read like 2-3 times slower on the kindle. It just feels so easy to breeze through words on paperback, but I cannot do it as fast on kindle...maybe I'm just a weirdo. Great video!
This was my New Year's resolution - replace my phone with my Paperwhite next to the bed. I can pick up a book and get sleepy again, but I cannot do that with my phone. So far, it's been working, no more doom scrolling from 2-5 am!
I just found your channel and love your videos! ALSO - your tip for removing ads absolutely worked! The rep said "one time exception" but that's all I needed. It's SO nice not seeing the ads and now I'm not worried about my family looking at my kindle! THANK YOU!
Amazon chat rep just removed ads on my paperwhite for free as “one time courtesy.” I just said I was chatting about removing the ads, they said it costs $20, but they’ll check with their lead. 2 minutes later, ads were removed. Thanks for the tip! I didn’t realize how nice it is to open directly into the book upon opening its case, rather than swiping to unlock first. Two thumbs up!! ❤
Based on my experience over several years, the Lock Screen ads are selected based on your library content. I have mostly history and fantasy titles on my Kindles, and that’s almost always the subjects for the Lock Screen ads.
That’s interesting! That hasn’t been my experience, but admittedly, I did disable my ads pretty early on so maybe the kindle hadn’t had enough time to learn my reading interests before they were turned off. Thanks for watching!
I love my Kindle Paperwhite. My old one would no longer run updates, so I traded up and got a Signature Edition Paperwhite. I love it so much, and I have only had to charge it once.
100% agreed! I love my Paperwhite!! I love the new kindle rewards but at the same time I dislike it because it makes me spend money to get the punch card offers complete and take advantage of the 2x points days 😂 In 2021, Amazon introduced Reading challenges every three months and they have been very motivational! Even though you don’t get much except the cute little bookmark shaped badges, it is fun to collect those simply by reading books. There are less reasons to read physical books for me now.
Haha I know exactly what you mean! I am loving and hating their rewards system 😆 They had a “spend $10 get a $3 credit” thing going on a week or so ago, and I missed out on the $3 credit because I only spent $9.97 🤦♂️ I haven’t paid much attention to their reading challenges, so that’s something I’m going to have to check into!
Great video, as always. I got my Paperwhite last April & it is still my fav purchase ever! I was recently gifted an oasis about a month ago and although I love the buttons there are still some Paperwhite features that I prefer (the battery life especially & the Paperwhite feels more indestructible lol). I mostly use the oasis at home & the Paperwhite for taking it more on the go.
That sounds like a great system! I completely agree - I love the buttons on the oasis and I think I prefer how the oasis feels in the hand, but I prefer the Paperwhite in every other way! Thanks for watching! 😁
I picked up a very nice leather cover for the Paperwhite on a Black Friday sale and it has completely eliminated the problem with the power button on the bottom of the device. It also classes up the look of the reading experience. Well worth the price. 😊
To clarify, the cover allows access to the power button, but extends a bit beyond the screen so you don’t accidentally hit it. 👍🏼 I just found it a serendipitous solution to that annoying issue.
I really like all of your videos! I own a Kindle Paperwhite 10th gen and I absolutely adore it. I have had it since 2021. Although I'm severely tempted to buy a Kindle with a warm light, I can wait for a little bit longer. I don't know if you are aware but in India, we don't have a kindle with advertisement version. It is a blessing. But one of the downside here is that we don't get audible support.
I have the signature edition and I love it! I'm so used to it that I struggle with physical books now. I need the light and a large font to read comfortably. It's perfect:)
I know exactly what you mean! I *try* to split my reading between ebooks and physical books (just so I can continue to justify purchasing new physical books lol) but I find myself always gravitating toward the kindle! I’m glad you’re loving your kindle! 😁
Love your videos Dylan, I got my paperwhite in 2021 the 8gb it has been amazing. I agree with the power button being annoying but honestly I love this thing. I have used it at work, home and at the beach. It is very simple and easy to use one of my best purchases ever.
My current Paperwhite (Signature Edition) is hands-down my favorite Kindle to date. 🤓 It's much _snappier_ than any previous Kindle I've owned and I really enjoy the warm light feature. 😬 That said, I kinda feel like a schmuck because I always pay the extra $$ so as not to have the ads. 😂 🤷🏼♀️
I was NOT prepared for the lag. I actually returned the one I had thinking there was something wrong with it. In my research to find something better...it seems that is just the way it is. I also read on other platforms, and I can't download to the kindle...so I still have to read on my phone. I'm so close to purchasing again to give it a real go, but sheesh! that lag and customization is sucky.
Would love to see you do a video on if it's possible to move Nook books to Kindle. People know I read a lot and I often get B&N gift cards. I'd love to use the gift card to buy Nook Books and then transfer them to my Kindle since I don't have a Nook. Great stuff, my man!
E-ink is so easy on the eyes. Have had a paperwhite since the early days, about 2nd generation. Just got a Signature Edition for Xmas. This is the Kindle Paperwhite ultra model. Enough memory for audio books and ebooks to last a month off line. Perfect lighting from full sun to the bottom of a mine shaft and wireless charging so I can just drop it on the charger next to my reading chair or next to the bed. Add in Kindle Unlimited and it totally rocks. My cat suggested that I add her preferences in my dropping the relatively light Kindle on her when I fall asleep versus a full sized hardbound book.
thank you for doing these videos I have found them really helpful - do you know if there is a way you can increase the volume when listening through voiceview?
Bought a Kindle Paperwhite two weeks ago. Now I can't stop reading. I spend my free time with Kindle. Great device. Glad I bought it 😊👍 There were no problems with the power button, although my palms are not small 🤷♂️
I debated getting a kindle for so long and finally just asked for it for Xmas because i didn’t want to spend the money on it. Waited 3 month to set it up and then finally in march set it up and fell in love ❤❤ don’t get me wrong I love physical books more but I love the portability of the kindle.
I agree. I was gifted with a Kindle Fire, and while I love the colors, I still gravitate to the Paperwhite for reading my books. Do you know anything about the Kindle Fire? I'm kinda just fumbling around. 😊👍🐾
Great video! I loved my Paperwhite but I REALLY wanted an Oasis because of the buttons(stupid, I know 😂). I ended up buying a used one on ebay for a really good deal and selling my Paperwhite. Question: If pricing wasn’t a factor, would the Paperwhite still be your favorite? Also, you make me very glad I cancelled my Scribe order last minute 😅 Hopefully the notetaking feature will be improved in the future.
Thank you! 😁 That’s a really great question! I think I probably would prefer the Oasis if they were priced the same. I do like how the Paperwhite feels more portable (and less fragile), but I do 99% of my reading at home so I don’t think that’s really much of a factor for me. And yes! Currently, I don’t think you are missing out much on the Scribe.
One of the cons could be fixed by getting a cover. I got myself one of those magnetic covers which opens up the kindle when you flip it. It’s thick enough to let your fingers rest easy on the button without accidental pushes to the sleep/power button.
I’m thinking about messaging amazon to get ads removed on my kindle but I haven’t yet, however I did turn on ad filtering on my kindle. It’s one of the options on the kindle in settings -> your account -> ads. It hides any ads that have images “that may not be suitable for all audiences”. Since then I haven’t had any awkward ads
I've not had one single issue with the power button on the bottom since I've had mine... I must hold it a lot differently to you 😅 What was most disappointing to learn for me, is that even though library's in the UK use libby/overdrive, they don't let you use it with kindle! absolutely heartbreaking.
I love the toyish quality of the basic Kindle and the lovely denim blue color. I do miss the warm light but dark mode is almost as good and to be fair I also have a Kindle Oasis which I use mostly at home (I adore the buttons) so I passed on the Paperwhite this time.
@@dylancanread Yes, I'm sure the Paperwhite is great as well. In fact, I almost ordered both the basic Kindle and the Paperwhite when they were on sale in my country last week. 😅
I only read on Kindle. If my Oasis had the battery life of my PW it would be the best ever. Or maybe if my PW was easier to hold one handed, either way Kindle is the way to go for me. LPT: Kindle kids comes with a cover, no ads and longer support, catch it on sale.
Only con I have is I’d wish the dark mode had an automatic feature where it turned on after sunset like on phones. I hate having drag from the top all the time to turn it on at night
I recommend the kindle paperwhite 11th generation signature edition 2021 32gb! Love it , bought one for me an my bestfriend. I like an recommend I looked at so many options an choices an it came to this one an I love it am so does my best friend! Kindle 10th generation is also a good option if you can't afford the the 11th generation.
After an accident, I became house bound for an extended period. After bitching abut not being able to get to the library, a friend for my birthday gave me a Paperwhite, case, with the add-free surcharge. after a few months, I realized that it was defective s it shifted pages, fonts, etc., at random more and more. Replaced under warranty. After another year of use, I do not know how I lasted with one. We have an excellent library e-book system, which is how I uses it most of the time. .
Use this cover: Amazon 11th Generation 6.8" Kindle Paperwhite Cover - Slim Fit TPU Gel Protective Case Cover for 2021 All-New Kindle Paperwhite5 (Black) It helps with the power button!!
luv my 2022 PW Kindle so much better then my previous Kindle==KB=Keyboard and the Kindle App on my 5th gen amazon app ==Download speed compared to the KB=Like night and day so much faster and so much more dependable then both the KB and the App. plus luv the Built in Light
How are you liking the bezels on it? I have paperwhite 4 from 2018 & the newest kindle basic. I’m realizing that the bezels are little on the skinny when I’m reading on my kindle basic 2022 version.
Please note that the Libby/Kindle only works in the USA. I had a little talk with a librarian in Berlin who was not happy that Amazon enables that Libby connection only in the USA. The background for this situation is probably the copyright law situation, which is slightly different in various jurisdictions. Anyway, my point was that your promotion of the Libby/Kindle connection applies only for a minority.
Here in the UK my public library uses something called Borrowbox for accessing its ebooks and magazines and this it seems is incompatible with Kindle. As a voracious reader I have been thinking about an ereader but have wondered if it is worth the cost when I already have an ipad. I was initially attracted by the ‘unlimited’ book feature offered by Amazon even at the price of £7+ per month after three months, but it seems to me that this feature only applies to certain books and “unlimited” is a misnomer. Is that correct? Moreover, over here there are a vast number of locations selling second-hand books at ridiculously low prices, even cheaper than amazon’s ebooks and whilst I can see the convenience of using a kindle under many cicumstances I am finding it hard to justify the price.
@@brianpotter2069 : For me it was not a matter of price or convenience but I question of space. Over the years, starting long before there was something called internet or Amazon, I acquired literally thousands of books and eventually I ran out of space to store them. So with a sad heart I bought my first Kindle ten years ago. And miss the smell of paper. I miss the feel of paper. Only over time I learned to value that cold device and its options. Perhaps if you look at it from this point of view you can find an answer for yourself. BTW: Since I own a Fire tablet with the Kindle app installed, I prefer to use that for reading. It kind of feels like a magazine to read. And since I manage my ebooks and documents with Calibre I have no problems with moving the book around between my different devices.
@@nickseamus7340 : Well, if I were to put 100 people in a room, I could say that they are the most focused demographic ... Remind me, how high is illiteracy in the US? And how many of those who _can_ read _do_ read (books)?
I like to listen to classical music while I read. I read that I can add mp3 files to the "Music" folder on my new Kindle Paperwhite. (I would then connect my Bluetooth headphones.) I have tried to access the music files but can't find them. Any chance you have tried this, or know how to make this work? Thanks!
Hmm… I have never tried that! To be honest, I hadn’t heard of that being a possibility! I appreciate you mentioning it though, I’m definitely going to look in to it!
I have tried this once and had very little difficulty! The only con I found was that some/most of the features like table of contents, x-ray, etc. did not work
what about text books and college text books...is that good for kindle...i want a kindle for my education purpose...which one should i go for...please reply❤
Personally textbooks are fine, and being able to add highlights and notes then view them on my laptop is helpful. That's for post-grad in teaching, coaching and people development. Word search is ok but getting to the index isn't straightforward.
Im looking into alot of videos and stuff about the kindle and thinking more and more going for a kindle paperwhite kids. It has no ads, got a cover and stuff but now im wondering, will we get a new generation for 2023? I dont wanna spend money on it just so they bring up a new version of it and BAM im here sitting with a version thats probably still lagging etc
I know exactly what you mean. I think the kindle kids is where you'll get the best value! I can't say for sure if the kindle kids will get a revamp any time soon, but it does seem like the paperwhite won't be updated any time soon since they have just released two new coloroways for the regular version (and maybe the kids version - I haven't checked yet). Whichever you choose, I'm sure you will love it! :)
I also recommend using the highlight feature - as well as notes! I am limiting my reader to three types of books because I love having a paper book on my lap. My e-reader is for portability and for books that I can read a chapter or two of and lay aside for a while. In reading a novel or bio or autobiographical, I prefer a paper book and plan so I will have as few interruptions as possible. Just my idiosyncrasies!
Hi Dylan! I’m torn between the PPW signature vs oasis! I’ve spent a fair amount (meaning a somewhat gross amount!) of time reviewing both of these devices and landed here! I’m in a position where I can get either device for about the same out of pocket right now using a promotion I managed to nab through work. With that in mind (cost not a factor), which device would you choose? Assuming you use both the oasis and paperwhite (based on your video) I find myself curious - which one do you find yourself reaching for more? Thanks so much for the help! Who would have thought this would be such a tough choice! 😅
Fantastic question! If money was no object, I would probably opt for the Oasis. I love the Paperwhite because it is such a great value, but I think the feel of the oasis in the hand, plus the page turn buttons makes for a slightly better reading experience. Hope that was helpful! 😁 I’m sure you’ll love whichever kindle you end up choosing!
Oh man, you have really missed out then! Being forced to make eye contact with some naked dude every time you look at your kindle really builds character! 🤣 On a more serious note, thanks for watching! 😁
Dude, enough with the remove adds for free tip. This is the 3rd video of yours that I've seen where you talk about this. Enough. Just reference your other vids and move on, stop rehashing the same content you had in 3 other videos. Please.
