Old video but I have to say it's made quite clear when you buy your kindle that you can remove the adds or choose to save 20$ and keep them. Personally I've had it both ways and I've enjoyed the adds as they've displayed books I am interested in and happy to find that way.
Love my kindle, invaluable when traveling/on holiday. Still love my physical books. Generally kindle great for fiction, i don't like it for nonfiction, particularly books i want to dip in & out of, flip between sections. I know it can be done but i don't find it as easy or convenient on kindle. Personally I love the adverts. They are not intrusive, only there when i close my kindle and they alert me to special offers, new books by authors I follow and books by authors i've not read in genres i have previously purchased. Recently saved ££££s buying a series on special offer by an author i follow.
Just a note - the blue tooth function is disabled for Canadians ….🤷🏼♀️ not sure why. So theres no Audible option for Canadians and also no price adjustment to reflect this lack of service in the Paper white e reader. As well in Canada there is no option with this e reader to sign into libraries….. so really for Canadians, the best bang for their buck is a Kobo Clara 2E at least for the “library” option and access to more free content. Hope this helps
I’m unsure if my Kindle blocks out the audiobook feature (I’m in Australia 🇦🇺) but I do know we can’t borrow library books on our Kindle 😢 I’m sick of trying so I’ll just get a Kobo eventually but I’ll always have a Kindle too for KU
I kinda want one so I can read more. Only thing is why does it do that weird flash thing when going in & out of the book store or when you turned page? I just think that odd
Interesting, what percent do you put brightness and warmth at night? I'll have to try out the warmth setting more for night reading. Thanks for watching!
@@TechCaribou I have thought about this question a while and for me it varies, but what seems to work for me is to have the light and the warmth about equal if that helps
Fantastic review, man. I still prefer physical books but I've been thinking about getting a kindle for lightweight travel and you've convinced me to pick one up. Thanks a lot.
Tony really give it a good try; I had numerous ereaders (Nook, Kobo Glo, Kindle) before I actually really committed and once I did there’s no turning back. I actually prefer to read on my Kindle (still love the smell and feel of fresh books and gorgeous covers) but reading wise I pick Kindle, and I don’t know what fairy dust they sprinkle but I go through books a hell of a lot faster on my Kindle 🤷🏽♀️
I love seeing how comic books look on the Kindle device - I wouldn't have expected them to look that visually pleasing! Also love the definition and note capabilities of the Kindle. Helpful and informative video!
The Kindle Paperwhite is an excellent device for avid readers looking for a more comfortable and customizable reading experience. The ability to control font size, warmth, and brightness makes reading easier on the eyes, especially for nighttime reading. The Paperwhite's built-in lighting system allows for comfortable reading without straining your eyes or disturbing others. The device's portability makes it easy to carry an entire library with you wherever you go. Compared to physical books, the Paperwhite is a game changer. With a physical book, the font size and style are fixed, making it challenging for readers with visual impairments or other reading difficulties. The Paperwhite's adjustable settings cater to readers' unique preferences, ensuring an enjoyable and personalized experience. Additionally, the Kindle Paperwhite's lightweight and compact design make it easier to hold and transport than a traditional book, and with its long battery life, it won't run out of charge mid-chapter. Overall, the Kindle Paperwhite is a fantastic investment for readers looking for a more comfortable and convenient reading experience.
I'm 90% digital although I still love paper books too and have a big collection of art, design, cooking and photography books. For fiction and nonfiction reading that isn't image heavy, I either do audio or kindle. I have the PW Sign, the Scribe, the Oasis and an older Voyage in our home. The Oasis has a more ergonomic weight distribution that make it much easier and comfortable to hold. My PW is newer (a gift from my family) but the Oasis remains a favorite. I picked up the Scribe as there are times when I want the larger screen and I do read quite a bit of manga on it via kindle unlimited.
I've been using a Kindle for years and the Paperwhite is the best so far. We don't have ads when we unlock our screens, I set my display to show the cover of the book I am currently reading upon opening. Personal preference I don't show the page number and percentage read at the bottom of the page, I like to be surprised so I tap it off. I also find having a cover so that I can prop it up like a little tent when reading in bed very useful. My only issue is that I'd like to be able to delete a book from my library as I don't want it to appear in my list but I would like it to remain on record so that I am reminded not to purchase again. Currently if you delete a book you don't get a reminder that you purchased it previously.
I don't think that I will ever totally abandon physical books but as my eyes weaken with age the strain on them makes reading text on a page a bit of a struggle and limits my reading time. However this is not the case with the Kindle, especially when I can adjust the text size and makes reading for long periods of time less of a strain. The one downside to this Signature Edition is the lag when you are typing on the keyboard. I never experienced this with my 6th generation model. Although I don't make to many notations it inhibits the flow of my thoughts as I have to slow down and allow the text catch up with me, which oftentimes involves typos when it misses letters. Otherwise I have no issues with this model. You neglected to mention the storage space. I've now downloaded at least 90% of my library (including a few audiobooks) and still haven't hit the halfway point in my storage capacity. I love having a virtual library at my disposal which I can access when I'm out and need not worry about deleting any in order to keep storage space available. I recently bought a case for the Kindle which is very light and doesn't add much weight while holding it.
Just sold almost all my paperbacks to convert to completely digital! I want to be able to travel or pick up and move with out the stress of brining books along.
I have one and I absolutely love this device! A must have once you use it, and yes, i 100% preferred this over paper book, no need for lamps to read at night and i can read lying flat with one hand, this little gadget got me reading again, love it
I've heard that many people have had success emailing Amazon asking them to remove the ads and they've done it for free. You could maybe mention how when you bought it you didn't know there were the two options.
My very first kindle was the basic. My second one was the paperwhite. I’ve enjoyed reading at night without a book light. My 3rd kindle was the oasis--my all time favorite-love the page turn buttons. Lastly the scribe--the battery last a very long time. I’ve just cough up $20 to take out the ads on the paperwhite. Love having the book cover on the screen. I’m awful, I owned 4 kindles 😂.
I have never owned a kindle but I am looking to get one hence why I’m here. I’m trying to be minimal with my physical book collection and want to encourage myself to read more. Great video.
If you don’t need the waterproof, warm light setting and the bigger screen I’d go the 2022 Basic extremely small and portable and has all the features minus those I mentioned above.
My kindle white is my third kindle. I just love it. I am a semi-retired teacher and probably read a book a day.. I love that it fits in my purse , so I can take it and read it anywhere. It is light and I can change the font and light at will. The no glare when reading outside or near the pool is fabulous. What I need is someone to tell me exactly how to use it for audio book.. I thought your video was excellent, but need to know how to set up the audio and what I need to go with my kindle to make it work. I had a stroke 6 mo ago and my left eye is only partial vision, so I need it.
I grew up in a library world for many years ,so the thought of giving up the actual book was never an option..,but whenever you go on vacation it has always made sense to me,that a kindle would make things so much easier..I will finally be getting one for our upcoming trip and even going to the beach for a couple days makes a lotore sense. Great review. I'm sold
Please share me your experiences as well when you gotten one and used it, I’m considering to buy myself a kindle as well since books are too heavy for me to bring on my trips
I've been looking at a few reviews as my current Kindle is almost 8 yrs old. I have adds on it & don't mind them at all - hardly notice them. Occasionally I've found them actually helpful by letting me know about a new book out by a favorite author.
for an american or for someone who speaks english natively or wants to read books in english it definitely worths buying a Kindle. The problem for the others is that (for example I am from Romania) is pretty hard to find ebooks compatible with Kindle. Here, bookstores usually sell few ebooks and those ebooks are DRM protected - which basically makes them incompatible with Kindle. In other words, if you live in a country like mine and want to read ebooks in your own language, not in english...it will be a challenge to find those books. You can find the books you want, but pretty hard - you have to struggle for that. It would be great if Amazon would offer for purchase books is romanian language... Other then that I really like my Kindle Paperwhite 2021 - I usually read about 20 books/year and I could say that I prefer the Kindle instead of a paper book - it is much more confortable and friendly environment.
ymmv but if you contact customer service, you sometimes (depending on the agent you chat with) can get the ads removed for free. By asking them politely to remove them
I still love books however, due to the small text size I would prefer Kindle after watching this video which was outstanding and answered all my questions.
I have a pop socket on mine it’s legit good to hold. I missed the book feeling and smell so I went back but Now that I have kids I go back and forth from reading during the day and using the backlight during the night.
i have a kindle but would never stop reading physical books. i think the two can easily co-exist. it's much easier to read my kindle in bed and a physical book whilst up. although saying that i used to read physical books in bed long before kindles were a thing. very satisfied with my e-readers.
I love my Kindle and can easily go without buying books now since I have 4 bookcases FULL of books that I will seldom read more than once, I have only bought physical books recently due to a problem accessing my newest books, gonna try some of your suggestions, or maybe I need a new Paperwhite, I've had mine for YEARS.
Great Review. I am a bookworm and have a Kindle Scribe 🖋️ I got for its 10.2” screen. I love it but not for portability. For travel this one is great. I would not give up physical books I just do a combination of both. I read The Bible and the catechism of the Catholic Church in physical form but read LOTR on my Kindle. I find reference books are not great on Kindle or books 📕 that you jump around a lot. You have to read books cover to cover. 8:39
Hello. Great video. I have switched 100% from physical books to Kindle e-books. I very rarely read a book a second time so I want to save storage space at my house. Why keep a bunch of heavy books that never get used again? Plus the pandemic really got me off my weekly trips to the library for books and I use Libby now. Plus I do have KU and there are a ton of free books from indie authors on the internet as well. Finally Amazon even keeps a list of free or super cheap e-books on their site. So yea! Digital books!!! I do have the Paperwhite you have reviewed in this video and I love it! Battery life, warm lit screen and getting the font bigger for my aging vision are my top loves.
I use mine without a case no issue and besides if it gets scratched its on the back (you'd 99% of the time won't see it) but if you take it out of the house/have young kids or pets I'd get a sleeve (mainly to protect the screen)
I don't think I will ever completely not have physical books, especially when there are people in 2023 intent on taking stories and changing the characters into their own image. At least that way I can have some books that are still as they were when they were published.
I love reading but at this moment I am having a really nomad life. I do not have were to store books and I am all the time outside home so for me it is some times anoying to carry books. Is this a good alternative guys? I do not want to go digital a 100% but I want a better alternative than carrying books all the time because I am all the time moving from one place to another.
I highly suggest it. I keep my kindle in my purse as an EDC & take it on trips. I have over 100 books with me at all times & reading on it is a pleasure . Plus with constant daily reading it needs charging about every 2 weeks, less if you only read an hr a day. Keep in mind you only need to turn on the light in low light, that will help your battery & in full day light you won't even notice the light is turned on.
@ciannacoleman5125 thank you for your recommendation. I really appreciate it. I think I will buy it soon. All those books you have, you paid for them? I heard that is also needed to pay for a subscription with Amazon to have access to good books.
I read alot! I've been a Amazon Customer for many years and I currently own the Amazon Kindle Fire 10 (tablet) It's a great device but not so great for reading. For years I've used the Kindle App on my phone. I love it but I also want to buy a Kindle Paperwhite. You're video helped to convince me to finally buy one. I can't wait for it to arrive 😊
I'd agree with you there. First I had a Kindle Paperwhite. Then I got the Fire Tablet. It's great for playing games or watching movies....but not as good as the Paperwhite for reading I'm about to order myself a new Paperwhite tomorrow.
I'll never go completely digital. There’s just something about the smell of a book, especially a well-worn book, and holding a page between the tips of your fingers for a few seconds before you turn it. Thanks for your great review. I’ve been on the fence between a Paperwhite or the new Oasis as I now want something dedicated to only books, and your review just saved me some $ because I don’t need page buttons after being so used to the Kindle app on my phone and iPads. A screen protector and a PopSocket will suit me just fine.
I bought the ad free version. If I don't want to hold the Kindle, then I use my mobile phone stand which I always bring with me. I hate finger prints on the screen so I use a cheap stylus on the screen instead of fingers. The stand and a bunch of styluses I bought from Amazon. I recently bought the 11th generation 6.8" model. Two things I don't like about it are the power button on the bottom of the device, and the inability to adjust the brightness from the screen. With my Kobo I can slide my finger up and down the left side of the screen for this function. Not on a Kindle, you have to go into the menu. With the power button on the bottom of the reader I sometimes trigger the switch off sequence because of the way I find it comfortable to hold it. With the Kobo the button is on the back and recessed. So no accidental pressing, Aside from those two gripes I am happy with my purchase.
I just received my new Kindle Paperwhite, along with a new book cover. Instead of just holding your Kindle like you would a phone, my book cover feels like a physical book. My hand rarely gets tired, so maybe that would help with your device fatigue?
Some textbooks and technical books don’t transfer well to the Kindles. But other than that, almost all of my other reading is on my Kindles. FYI, for even better battery life, turn Bluetooth off when not being used.
Can't understand why people don't get Kindle because of Amazon ecosystem. I only buy epub books from other stores than Amazon and send them to Kindle with Calibre. Also, I keep the Kindle in airplane mode since I do nothing with Amazon books and also saves tons of battery.
I bought it one year ago and still I cannot handle it... it is very difficult... is it invaded of recomended books that your are not interested and you cannot get rid of them... NOT WORTH A PENNY... i wish somebody would have told me
Is there a version on the market which has improved performance for some extra bucks? I was planning to get one but this lagging UX on scrolling and tapping through the menu makes me sick
I’ve been thingking to buy 2nd handed kindle, it’s kindle 7th gen paper white 8gb the minus part is that the seller says that the kidle couldn’t connect to the wifi but it can still transfer ebook file from usb cable and has little death picel like one tiny dot on the screen. It’s the cheapest price I could find on the market it is $28.66 i need some advice here, should i buy it or not?
Thanks for the review. Just bought mine. I had the Oasis and hated it. It was so painfully slow. I have three HD Plus Fire but its glare is awful for books; great for comics.
I think the ads are there because they sell it at a minor loss to make it accessible and the price to pay to remove it makes them break even and buying from the store makes them the profit
I was old school and always preferred physical books. But E-readers and Audiobooks defiantly have upsides. My Reading: 1. Read Sample on Kindle App and also Listen Sample on Audible. Then decide if I can at home or I can listen in my car. 2. If the book is really good, go ahead and buy paperback.
I've already switched to 99% digital years ago. Buying books on kindle store is unfortunately the cheapest way to read titles in english for a foreigner with x4 weaker currency, when I'm interested in a specific genre and my own country's good writers are few and far between
I still prefer the Oasis. The thing that seals the deal for me are the page turning buttons. You can truly read one handed as your thumb naturally rests on the advance button. With a Paperwhite you'll likely need a second hand to, ugh, touch the screen. Ick. The Oasis has a thicker side that makes holding it secure and comfortable. None of these features are... essential. But if you read a lot you'll be thrilled to have them. Constant mild annoyance will take its toll. The Oasis removes this. Of course, if you've never experienced the joy of using an Oasis, you won't know what you are missing. But I'll pay extra for the buttons.
yes! i did this recently, definitely worth it in my opinion. you can either buy the kindle with the ads removed version for $20 more, or pay to remove them later on if you get the ad version initially. thanks for watching!
I was completely ready to order myself one three minutes into your review, but the mention of lockscreen ads has completely turned me off from it. I guess its time to order a nice reading lamp to read in bed instead
The kids edition paperwhite doesnt have ads on the device, also you can contact support and politely ask them to remove the ads as they are inappropriate or something similar and they might do it for free.
