$15 million?? I thought this was impossible with this amount of stars and a big name director. This movie is already paid for even if it just makes the bare minimum, and that's because Yorgos knows how to budget his films. The fact that he could make Poor Things for $35m just shows how much Hollywood is in dire need of more fiscally responsible foreign directors

Dude, I love your reviews. As an NYC native, I love how you're unapologetically you express you're likes and dislikes. Keep em coming brother!

I really enjoyed the movie. It's Lanthemos being absurd and weird as usual. All the stories were interesting and went into different directions. I would say it's just a tad bit too long. Enjoyed your review as well James.

Honestly at $15 million, I think it will definitely make its money back. The normal film audience probably won’t realize it’s an anthology until they are already in the seat.

I was perusing the AMC site for tickets and the Dolby room at the Lincoln Center 68th St is selling very well over this weekend (that's a big room too!) but the regular screens, not so much. Lanthimos fans seem to want a premium viewing experience, but it's not going to be a killer opening weekend. For giggles, I checked out how it was selling at the Angelika, and it's not really selling that well, which I found surprising! I think when it comes to box office, Lanthimos can surprise us, but he's still not a huge draw in general. Very much an aquired taste. For me Poor Things was one of the best films of last year, but I don't love his other stuff as much. I like him, but don't love him. I'll check this one out though, of course!

It was for me lanthimos version of “French dispatch”. Where it’s lanthimos world and we’re all living in jt. It’s soooo great to see a director who’s gone a “little mainstream” and all of us a little worried he was gonna go more mainstream but NOOOO kinds of kindness just takes that and ruins it in best of ways. Now even tho I love poor things…. The story is pretty straight forward (coming of age/ Frankenstein). But kinds of kindness …. OHHHHH MY GOD I LOVED THIS SO MUCH MORE. It’s a lanthimos cornucopia of his themes of control like dogtooth, sex and love like in lobster and poor things, themes of supernatural (sacred deer) . This is twilight zone lanthimos version and I was in it for long haul. Here’s the litmus test. If u hated beau is afraid … stay away

2024 for movies so far was very lackluster imo, so watching a new movie like this was something that I needed. After watching it, it became my favorite movie of 2024

I wish I liked more of Yorgos' body of work more, but I always root for him. I love and hate Dogtooth, and I still have to see The Killing of the Sacred Deer, but everything else I have seen from him just does not work for me. I am not the biggest fan of dark comedy though. That said, I appreciate that he makes transgressive films. We need more of that. I am glad you enjoyed the film, James. Have a good weekend!

Awesome video as always- i’m also NYC-based and reviewing films on a consistent basis! I went to the Wednesday night AMC Dolby Early Access screening at Lincoln Sq. Highly enjoyed this movie, liked it a bit more than some of my peers. Perhaps sometime i’ll run into you! Would love to chop it up 🎞️

I miss seeing Colin Farrell in his movies. Seems like he replaced him with Emma Stone.

If it only cost $15m, it will make money. Will attract a bigger audience on back of The Favourite and Poor Things.

Would you say everyone is supporting? Or are Plemons and stone the leads
@hotakaofficial

I would say that Plemons and Stone are the main leads, Qualley and DaFoe are the supporting leads, and Chau, Athie, Alwyn, and Schafer are supporting

This movie seems to me is YORGOS lanthimos version of French dispatch. Just a playground marathon anthology of themes involving all of his films almost like “beau is afraid” was to Ari aster. Beau had family drama, messed up suicides, mental health, medication ect. This I see the lobster , sacred deer and dogtooth . Mostly dogtooth dealing with idea of control and how human beings can be controlled like animals , the lobster I see in here dealing with love and connection and of course even though this is different than poor things , I do see the commentary in poor things dealing with sex and how we view it. Unlike beau though where the overblown budget did NOT make anything back, the one here (since like his earlier films take place in modern day), it will be successful on that end. God I can’t wait
