Just purchased a Super split 6.5 Honda engine HD unit and I couldn’t be happier. Well worth the $4k

I love mine. It lives at our KY property now. I split mostly poplar and pine with it for our rental cabins

Great video. I agree the type of splitter one gets should be driven by the type of wood you have access to. I bought a 12 ton electric kinetic splitter. I love the speed, moving it around my yard (in the city) is easy. BUT the ram arm with teeth have already worn down so much that it slips when I engage it. The dealer has shipped me new pieces (on their way) but it's only 7 months old. I will look to adjust the way I pull the handle to engage the ram arm if possible to prevent in future but this is definitely a draw back on the design of this model I got. I will leave the brand out of the comments as they are helping me fix the problem for now.

I have a Hydraulic here in Illinois, we have big oak tree service wood. I took the super splitter to KY where its all poplar, small and pencil straight. I think your right the splitter should be matched to the wood you use if for.

My Supersplit J model is over 15 years old, still has the original pair of belts. You won't be disappointed. Some guys retrofit a log lift. What works for me is to load the logs onto a trailer with my tractor. My old 1957 Army surplus trailer is the same height as the Supersplit deck so I never have to lift the logs. Yesterday I found a 32" oak tree that uprooted in a storm, clobbered four other trees. No problem for the Supersplit.

I really like it. I use my tractor for a lift so I don't really care for one anyways. Good to hear yours is still chuggin' 15 years later!

My wife and I are 73 and we heat our home and workshop with wood. We fell our trees, oak, maple, ash, cherry, ironwood and elm and buck them up where they drop. My wife gathers and loads the wood and turns up the larger rounds which I split with a 6 pound maul. Nothing more satisfying than to hear the audible “punk” as a round yields to a deft swing of that maul. I’m 5’2” 150 lb. My wife is somewhat taller and lighter. Carefully done, this work keeps us strong. We’ve determined that an expensive splitter would only complicate our process.

Good comparison! I just got an Eastonmade 12-22 in November. I love it especially the box wedge and the log lift. I plan to split and video tomorrow. Also I just sub’d.

Great points. Thank for the comparison video. As a guy who runs a firewood business -- And, a business in general -- TIME is money. Faster is key. Hydraulic is slower, but will go through the tougher, knotty pieces. Nice to find a good balance between the 2. Eastonmade is a fantastic choice for more commercial use. ~ Kinetic splitters can get the job done, no doubt. They're impressively fast. They can tend to break belts, which can be a real pain if you don't have back ups on hand (& if you're not comfortable swapping out those sort of things -- but, it's not hard). Like you, I love splitting firewood. It's even better when it goes fast & problem free. Thanks brother!

I really heard nothing but good about those super split kinetic splitters I know theirs some cheap ones that tend to be more trouble then worth but if it's a brand name like yours I've heard nothing but good with the it ramps up production

I have a new Super Split HD and there's only been a couple pieces of knotty wood this thing hasn't gone through without hitting it a few times. The biggest round Ive split so far has been a 26" piece of Maple with help getting it on the table it went right through it. The only draw back is there is no log lift and the wedge is short, other than that it's worked without any issues. I did order a Eastonmade 12-22 mainly because of the log lift and speed of that machine but if your just doing smaller wood its a very capable unit.
@buildlife
@buildlife Год назад
I love it but I do the heavy work with my skid steer splitter. I use a tractor instead of a log lift. I bet that new 12-22 will get some work done!

@@buildlife Cancelled the Eastonmade 12-22 and ordered a Wolferidge ss2824 skid steer splitter and a thumb for my backhoe. I cancelled the Eastonmade for a couple reasons and wont get into but my plan is to use the backhoe thumb to lift up the logs, buck them up and then use the skid steer splitter to move the rounds and break them up into a pile right next to my Super Split...no more bending over to cut, no more trying to move large rounds and minimal bending to grab the pieces for re-splits. Also looking to order a Wolferidge RS22 or a Compact Commercial splitter from them.

Can the Super Split be stored 'standing up' ? Hitchpoint pointing towards the sky (or ceiling in the garage) ?
@buildlife
@buildlife Год назад
Probably, It doesn't have a design meant for that but I think the engine would be the only issue. Probably be fine if you shut the fuel off.

I have used a variety of cheap hydraulic splitters that are slow and laborious and have yet to use a kinetic one, but I’m going to buy a supersplit because I know I can get my money back out of it if I ever want to upgrade to a processor. My choice is a HD gas model that I can convert to electric when I get my barn built. Reno
@buildlife

Having used mine for a bit now I would have gotten the HD model as well.

I think my ideal setup would be an electric supersplit and a large covered area to work in. I have an electric Oregon chainsaw that's pretty impressive too. I'd keep my gas powered tools for the times when they're the best option. I'd go electric for the reduced maintenance and less noise. Just flip the switch and start splitting and, no, I don't believe in electric cars. Get one if you want but don't force me to.
@buildlife

I’d like to demo an electric one. Splitting in the shop would be pretty slick!

Honestly, Guys always think bigger is better. I burn 8-10 cords a year and just have a little troy-bilt hydraulic 10 ton unit. Its splits 99 percent of what I throw at it and the stuff that I cant split gets thrown in the waste pile...... time is money. I Know guys who burn half as much wood and buy a 5k splitter, then claim they are saving money........ really? 5K splitter, 1k chainsaw, 30k tractor, .... you aren't saving anything in fact, your loosing money. Again, for homeowner use, if your goal is to save money, there is no reason to buy a splitter that's over $1500.
@buildlife
@buildlife 8 месяцев назад
I think "if it's your goal to save money" is key. Also of the process from tree to ash, the splitting is only a small part so even if your splitter is half the speed of someone else's your process is only a little slower you can make up for it some other way.
