@@quanjames That's true, and people are looking to switch. I think it depends on the skin, but generally for a comfortable shave, 3-7 or one a week. Do you use a safety razor? If so, how often do you change?

@@ashtradam I used to change about once a month, but my skin started hurting when I started to shave "baby smooth" so that's why I was asking. But I think I will now change them every 2 weeks, becouse they are not so cheap for my budget.

@@quanjames If you find that every two weeks works then that's good. Are you purchasing the blades locally or online? Astra platinum/Derby professional 100 count usually goes for about $5-$10.

@@ashtradam I buy online but not overworld online shops becouse the shipping cost to much. In my country Astra platinum 100 is 54 euros. I looked Derby professional its 9 euros for 100 so I think I will try these thanks for mentioning

I have tried both, Gillette has the same head similar to Muhle R89 and it is manufactured in Germany, it is more effective and of better metal quality, Wilkinson I felt was very aggressive and it caused several cuts and the handle was too long, in short I highly recommend Gillette

Hi Geo, the one I have the handle is made in China and the blades in Russia. The Wilkinson the handle is made in China also but the blames are made in Germany. I would have preferred if the handle on the Gillette was made in Germany and the knurling went all the way down in a crossed hatch pattern. Nonetheless, it is made very well...thanks for watching

These two get compared a lot. From my experience, the King C is a much smoother razor. The Wilkinson seemed too aggressive for me, although it has a reputation of a mild razor. So I decided to use it a for few weeks. I found out that it feels much smoother with Derby blades instead od the Wilkinson Sword blades. For me, the difference was substantial. On the other hand, the Wilkinson Sword blades work perfectly with the King C Gillette. I think those are fairly sharper blades. I guess it all comes down to personal preference, feel and technique.

Hi, you are certainly correct about it coming down to personal preference. Everyone has their own technique, but it also starts with brand preference for some. Sometimes it's good to try something new, like you did; if it works, all the better, but if it doesn't, that's ok too. I think once a routine works, it is probably best to stick with it unless something can provide an additional benefit. Thanks for watching and your comment.

I have both and enjoy shaving with them. I tend to prefer 3-piece razors though. I believe the Wilkinson is a re-branded Weishi 9306p.

I had a King C. Gillette, and I dumped its handle. Now is good with the new one. It is a mild razor, and pretty.

King C. Gillette INVENTED the double edged safety razor and the blade in 1901. Every brand of DE Safety Razors should respect the ORIGINAL. Best regards.

Yes of course he invented the double edge, and I agree the original is always the best. I think the 1898 refers to the Pall Mall safety razor which was single edge.

The Wilkinson is the best. Longer doesn’t slip well balanced and butterfly opening. The gilette handle is too heavy slips and the razor is not well balanced. Wilkinson for sure 1000%!

The knurling make a big difference and their heritage edition does have better.

I have both of these here in Australia, and they are both excellent. I think the Gillette has a bit more blade exposure, but the Wilkinson is smoother. These work fantastic with Astra SP blades. I recently got a Merkur 39c, and it's my new favourite razor.

Hi KJ, you're right about the razor. We have to judge them on their price points because you can always find a better product at a high price but not usually at a lower price. Some higher price points you can find even worse products. These razors suit both quality and effectiveness within their price points. Happy to hear you're liking your new Merkur because they make a quality product.

I prefer the Wilkinson Sword premium Germany Blade over the Astra But you get a lot more blades for your dollar with the Astra.

No, it's the other way around. The KCG is way milder than my Mühle so it definitely has neutral or even negative blade exposure (like Mühle and Merkur heads). The Weishi/Wilkinson head has positive blade exposure for sure - that's why it can bite/scrape you more easily, while the KCG is very forgiving. The blade gap is smaller though which limits the window of ideal attack angles.

The market for safety razors is getting bigger especially in the online sector. There is probably a bigger choice of razor blades now. Then there was in their 50s 60s 70s early 80s. Would be interesting to know how many actual razor blade factories there are compared to the amount of blades on the market.

Yes, the market for safety razors have grown alot in recent years. The likes of Harry's, Dollar Shave, etc. Even the big brands like Gillette have reintroduced past products like this video shows. I have used the Gillette for a few months now, never dry it and always pack it away wet keep it in a soap box, lives in my gym bag 24/7, no rust whatsoever. Never tried Wilkinson, I found the blade angle can be set within limits of how tightly the head screwed on. All the way in is fairly mild i prefer to use it 1/2 or 3/4 out It's more bitey. With a good blade nicer shave than any 16 blade plastic crap

That's good to hear, but remember that most blades are not as rust-proof. That said, I find keeping it dry also keeps the blades sharper longer. I usually just blow out my razors after using them and find it's sufficient to keep them sharp.

The Gillette has decades of QC and R&D behind it and it shows. Wilkinson Sword was originally a Gun Manufacturer and I believe they only had one other budget plastic DE Razor before this one. They’re more known for making Blades. The Gillette also has a Muhle head, which is a very good razor as well. For me, it’s KCG > WS

Hey Hugo, I do like the quality of both these razors and think the only think missing from the KCG is the knurling on the handle. It should have been like the Muhle and more towards the end of the handle. Thanks for your comment and watching

It's not a Mühle R89 head. The KCG is milder/less efficient. The Gillette Heritage on the other hand had a R89 head though (confirmed by Gillette).

Wilkinson Sword is by far better. Gillette focus more on gimmiks and selling their plastic crap mach5 turbo battery stuff and dont put as much effort as Wilkinson Sword/Schick do for their double edge razors. Wilkinson Sword wins hands down.

Sorry to be critical, but you never even opened up the Gillette, and as I've never held a 3-piece I can't make a comparison. Also, the comb on each looks pretty distinct, but you didn't mention anything about that. I tried to get a good look as you wiggled them around, but no luck.

@@k1m6a11 Hi, I posted a short video of the Gillette on twitter (same name) I also forgot that I have a video on RU-vid of the Gillette if you want to look that up. I prefer the knurling on the Wilkinson but the combs on the Gillette are spaced wider. It all depends on if you prefer the butterfly or three piece. Thanks for watching.
