I just loved what I just saw. The King pulling the chair out for Queen Margarethe. That is a gentleman even though there were footmen there.

Henri de Laborde de Monpezat - His Royal Highness The Prince Consort of Denmark, was Queen Margrethe’s husband until he died in 2018, I believe. The gentleman you refer to is the king of Sweden, i believe. Not entirely sure. At any rate, it is Margrethe who is the Queen, when alive her husband was king consort.

No, Queen Margarethe’s husband was Prince Consort Henrik. He resented it greatly that he was not King Consort.

Yes his gentleman act is to be emulated by His peers.Though there were footmen it doesnt in anyway diminished His stature ,nevertheless he shows the way how women should be treated in times like this.Really a very dignified King.

11:03 *HM The King's welcome speech at the anniversary banquet* Your Majesties Honorable Presidents Your Royal Highnesses Mr. Speaker Prime Minister Your Excellencies Ladies and Gentlemen It is a great pleasure for me to welcome you all to the Rikssalen at the Royal Palace. 50 years ago I stood here for the first time as King of Sweden. My feelings about the office are the same today as then: Pride, gratitude and humility. To be able to represent a country that is a stable democracy, a peaceful and solidary country, is a favour. And it is a great honor that the heads of state of the other Nordic countries are here with us tonight. It marks our trust and community with each other. No monarch in Sweden has had the privilege of serving as long as I have. And family ties are felt strongly these days. I especially think of my grandfather, Gustav VI Adolf, who worked to strengthen our country right into his ninetieth and last year of life. To be a link in a long chain is a great benefit. With love and confidence, I regard Crown Princess Victoria's dedication and focus in the task of representing Sweden. My role as monarch is to stand up for the old while embracing the new. That was what I intended when I adopted the election language "For Sweden in the Time". Three years after I took office, Sweden got a Queen. I could never have had a better life partner. I am so happy, lucky and impressed by her efforts for everyone's country for so many years. All of you here are representatives of different parts of Swedish society. I want to say a big, warm thank you to you and to all the Swedes who have shown so much support, trust and appreciation for my work during the 18,262 days that have passed since then. THANKS! And once again a warm welcome! 19:38 *HRH The Crown Princess's speech at the anniversary banquet* Your Majesty Dear Dad! For fifty years you have been the king of Sweden. For almost as long you have been my father. And always, my role model. You are a constant. A safety. For me, and for many others. And I am so happy to celebrate this historic anniversary together with you and all of Sweden. In this very place, in the Rikssalen at Stockholm Palace, you ascended the throne in September 1973, aged just 27. But when I stand here tonight, half a century later, and think about how to describe your deed - then my thoughts go to a completely different place. I think of the mountain. On our hikes and ski trips there, when my siblings and I were little. Nowhere do you move as easily as there - in the magnificent Swedish nature with its expanses and its silence. Dad. I remember so well what it was like to have your back - on the ski trail and on the hiking trail. I remember how safe it felt to me as a child. I feel the same security today as an adult, when I follow you in your work as King of Sweden. To walk with you, through the castle's corridors and halls, on your way to a council or a foreign affairs committee. Or to accompany you when you perform your duties around Sweden. It's not entirely unlike a trip in the mountains. You get to listen and learn, lean back and engage. Sometimes it goes fast! Then you can increase the pace. Regardless of the weather, mood or day: you always push forward. You and mom together. The pace, it's fast. Canceling is out of the question. The strong sense of duty that drives you - it's probably a bit old-fashioned. But also completely necessary, in order to cope with the task that you were given to shoulder at such a young age. Where does that sense of duty come from? It is clear that it is about personality, about your character. But I also think it's about a deeper insight, about being part of something bigger than yourself. About being a link in a long chain. Out on the mountain, you taught us to follow the main rule of common law: "do not disturb, do not destroy". Nature is a gift - a gift that we have a responsibility to take care of for future generations. Here at the castle, you show every day how you care about the cultural heritage that you are put in charge of. And then we talk down to the level of detail - not a paint flake or a scratch mark escapes your gaze! Anyone who works with you can probably attest to that... Dear Dad. You have a strong inner compass, which guides you. You know that the landscape changes over time: That old maps don't always apply. Then you have to choose another path - the important thing is that you stay on a steady course. During the half century that you have been king, our country has developed, our society has undergone great changes. You have been careful to follow along, while at the same time protecting the tradition. For Sweden in time. Your Majesty, dear father. With you, you can hike safely in all weathers. Often in the sunshine. But also in rain, wind and snow. Regardless of the weather, you have the direction ready for you. You are guided by a respect for the context of which you are a part, and which you know is bigger than yourself. Your gaze is always directed forward. On the mountain - and in office. I am proud and grateful to follow in your footsteps. Tonight I want to say thank you. Thank you for all you have done, and for all you do. For your country. For your family. And for me.

39:30 *Speech by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson to His Majesty the King on the occasion of the King's fiftieth anniversary* Your Majesties, Your Royal Highnesses, Your Excellencies, Mr Speaker, Princess Christina Mrs Magnuson, ladies and gentlemen! Two out of three Swedes were born after the change of throne in 1973. This means that an overwhelming majority of Sweden's population has never experienced a king other than the one we are celebrating here tonight. And that even more than that have vague or no memories at all of a Sweden before Carl XVI Gustaf. I myself was nine years old when the King became king. I remember it well. I was a scout - just like the king. In my case sea scout and we were at camp that weekend. We were woken up early in the morning, gathered outside and lowered the flag to half mast. We understood that this was a historic day. I also remember very well the very first conversation Your Majesty and I had in person, here at the Palace last year. The head of state and the head of government meet regularly to discuss the situation in Sweden and in the world. We talked about the big issues of our time - both those that worry and those that inspire hope. And we talked about the upcoming jubilee year: About Sweden's 500 years as a nation state. About the King's 50 years on the throne. The long lines, amidst the fast pace of everyday life. And I realized that it would not impress the King, when I said that on the same day I had been Prime Minister of Sweden for exactly five weeks. The rest of us do difficult things for a limited time in our lives. But for the King, doing difficult things is a life task. This is how our constitutional monarchy works. During the last half century, Sweden has had ten prime ministers and seventeen governments - but one and the same king. Governments and heads of government come and go. The state and the head of state exist. When politicians often think in term periods, I know that the King thinks in generations. Both perspectives are needed. Impatience and persistence. When the King took office - aged 27 - he was often the youngest in all contexts. Today, there is rarely anyone who surpasses him in experience and overview. I myself have been struck by it when every year the King opens the parliamentary session in the Riksdag, and talks about the oil crisis of the 1970s or the fall of the Berlin Wall. But also when the King has stepped forward and become a unifying force during difficult national events: Like the Estonia disaster. The tsunami. Storm Gudrun. And it's clear - if you have spent every day for 50 years working for Sweden, to be constantly on standby, to travel through the country and across the world to promote our Swedish interests: Yes, then you gain completely unique knowledge and experience . We're not going to talk politics here tonight. But I dare say that the King embodies both the "line of work" and "the adult in the room". I know that I speak for many Swedes when I say that we are deeply grateful for all these efforts during all these years. We all know that the King is not alone in his life's work. So let me say a few words about something that I myself have long experience with: the almost indescribable value of a wise life partner. In that respect, we are both fortunate. Our Queen is as hardworking as the King himself and has stood by his side for almost all of these 50 years. Equally loyal is the support from the King's children and their families - not least from the Crown Princess, who is also an outstanding representative of our country. It takes a personality, an extraordinary sense of duty, to carry an institution the way the King does. Let me quote one of my representatives as prime minister: "The symbolic meaning of royalty would not be far fetched if it were not combined with both the rich experience of an active life and the sanctity of the personality - and the firmness of character." The words are Tage Erlander's, performed in the inner castle courtyard to the king's great-grandfather Gustaf V, at his 40-year throne jubilee. We live in a different time today, but the words are as true now as they were then. I think continuity is important. I believe in the long lines. But what is permanent must not be stagnant. On the contrary - and just look at the King. After 50 years on the throne, he is in his stride: informed, interested, intensively working for the good of our country. For Sweden in time. For all this we feel deep respect and gratitude. Your Majesty! On behalf of the government and the entire Swedish people, I would like to offer a warm thank you for these first fifty years in the service of the kingdom. We look forward to many more. Let me propose that we rise and pay homage to His Majesty the King with a fourfold levy. Long live him! Hooray, hooray, hooray, hooray!

Because of the changes made to the Swedish constitution in 1975; look "Riksmötets öppnande 1974" and you'll see he wore them. 28:54 *Speaker Andreas Norlén gave a speech to the king at the celebration of the king's 50 years on the throne* Your Majesties, Your Royal Highnesses, Your Excellencies, Mr. Prime Minister, Princess Christina Mrs. Magnuson, Ladies and Gentlemen, When the mists of history began to lift over the ancient world up here in the north and the kingdom we know today as Sweden began to form, the 9th century was coming to an end. The first national institution in this kingdom was the monarchy.   The length of regency often begins with Olof Skötkonung, who came to power around the year 995 or possibly Erik Segersäll who ruled before that. The first centuries are a bit uncertain, but perhaps 70 regents in the form of kings, queens and prime ministers have ruled our country during the more than a millennium that has passed since then. Each one unique in its own way. His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf is also unique: In a thousand years, no one has reigned as long as him. No one before him has sat on the throne - Queen Kristina's silver throne or any other throne - for 50 years.   Not famous kings from history like Karl XIV Johan over there or Gustav II Adolf on the other side and not anyone else either. A lifetime achievement without precedent in the history of the Swedish monarchy. During this year we celebrate the jubilee of Your Majesty's reign, but we also pay attention to the election of Gustav Vasa as king on June 6, 1523, a turning point that took our country in a completely new direction. A 500th anniversary and a 50th anniversary. Your Majesty has thus reigned for an impressive tenth of those five centuries. In order to give a little further perspective on these 50 years on a personal level, it can be stated that the King has removed eight Reich Marshals, nine Speakers and ten Prime Ministers. I myself was four months old at the time of the King's accession, so the King has somehow always been there. The king is a common point of reference that binds our country and different generations together. If you instead want to put numbers on the king's work, you can state that this week the king opened the parliament for the 50th time and has celebrated 50 national days as head of state. The King has also held 16 probate councils - four of which together with me - and carried out over 150 incoming or outgoing state visits. The king is also involved in a wide range of organizations that work on issues of widely different kinds. All this is impressive and testifies to great perseverance and devotion to duty, but also to curiosity and commitment. Ladies and gentlemen, Karlfeldt called Karl XIV Johan, the king's great-great-great-grandfather, "the last fairytale king in Sweden's old country". It is possible that he was, but Your Majesty, on the other hand, is the first in several ways. Not only the first to rule for 50 years, but also the first of all our kings born in the 20th century, and the first to rule under the new form of government that came into force in 1975. The constitutional changes meant a partially changed role for the king. Important, constitutionally based duties are there, of course. The King will open the Riksdag, lead the Foreign Affairs Committee, information councils and probate councils, receive ambassadors and carry out state visits, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you on behalf of the Riksdag for good and trusting cooperation throughout the years. At the same time, in the work on the new form of government, the task of the head of state to represent Sweden and be a unifying symbol for our country was emphasized. But how the office of head of state would be exercised after the introduction of the new form of government, not much was said about that. It was thus above all the King himself who had to shape the substance of a monarchy for a new era. Of all that the king has achieved during these 50 years, this is perhaps the most important. The king has brought the thousand-year-old Swedish monarchy into our own time, and strived to create a relationship with generations of Swedes who have partly different values and frames of reference than older generations. The king has admirably and thoughtfully found his role in this new landscape. Some things have had to change - in step with time and development. Other things have been important to preserve - for continuity and tradition. The king has succeeded in combining the monarchy's long and rich tradition with creating a royal house for the 21st century. Everything intended to contribute to cohesion and community in our society. Everything marked by the election language: For Sweden - in time. The king has also been ahead of his time in many ways when it comes to matters of fact, not least through his early commitment to our nature and to environmental issues. Let me reproduce a few lines from Bo Setterlind's poem The Forest to try to capture the King's feeling and commitment to nature and the environment and what I perceive to be the King's deeply known need to repeatedly stay in forest and land. Have you forgotten that the forest is your home, That the great deep quiet forest is waiting for you like a friend? Leave the worries of the city, come to the forest again, Only then can you be whole again. Your Majesty, Ladies and Gentlemen, Karl XIV Johan once stated: "No one has filled a track like mine". Indeed, Your Majesty can also say that. On behalf of the Riksdag and the entire Swedish people - warm thanks for everything and hearty congratulations on fifty years on the throne, Your Majesty! With these words I would ask you to rise with me so that we may join in a toast to His Majesty the King. King's toast!
