As one who has the privilege of living in a constitutional monarchy (The Kingdom of the Netherlands, within the European Union) I understand the beauty of this unique system of government. As in an era of increasingly political partisanship and division it is a gift to know that the Crown wil always endure as a symbol of national unity (or in the case of the Commonwealth of Realms, multi-national unity). Only we, who have the luck to live within a constitutional monarchy, understand the preciousness of the Crown. As it is a link to the past and a bridge towards the future. To be able to (through the magic of modern technology) bear witness to a diverse collection of nations within Commonwealth Realms proclaim Charles III their Sovereign is an absolute joy and privilege. I know there are many Republican movements around the Commonwealth, and yes the History of Empire has some dark pages, but the Crown under Queen Elizabeth II has transformed this legacy of Empire into a force for good, as in the modern age it has become an institution for dialogue and collaboration between nations (who share a common history). Every civilization has periods in their history that they now with knowledge of hindsight would airbrush away with a profound feeling of shame. But let's not forget that without the situations of history the current age would not exist. Equally important is the understanding that no one a live today bears any personal responsibility for those dark pages (that doesn't mean we dont have to aknowledge it, or shouldn't try to remedy it's prevaling negative influence around the world. We should, obviously!) Anyhow, I would advise those nations who still carry the Sovereign as head of state, not to cast away the Crown lightly, as it is easily abolished, but (almost) impossible to restore. You just might not realize what you're about to lose, before you've lost it in ernest. God save the King!
There's a lot of this I don't personally agree with because I'm doubtful fundamentally about the legitimacy and value of monarchy, and especially the hereditary kind. On the other hand, some very good and well argued points here. I respect Michael that you have taken the trouble to write a well argued and reasonable contribution to the debate on constitutional monarchy. Respect and thank you for that, Michael. I was looking to watch Prince Charles' proclamation speech (in Westminster) as King as I haven't seen it yet, And I found the Proclamation of King of New Zealand. I have to say that I quite enjoyed this ceremony. A nice low key ceremony but balanced and a little upbeat. The soldier singing has an impressive voice as well, she is quite striking
@@kironreid7112 Excellent response to a brilliant comment. Just to begin with where I would gently counter is the issue of legitimacy. A Monarchy retains legitimacy because the people of that nation permit it to remain and therefore grant it legitimacy. Governments are THEIR Governments elected by us because he / she rules over us. He / she rules but bequeaths that power to the Governments of our choosing. On the wider issues beyond legitimacy the benefit is that Monarchies are never political and therefore need no election and the line of inheritance is a fixed permanent thing which grants stability. The fact they remain apolitical and act (in the case of the UK) as neutral watchkeepers and well informed sounding boards, good ears and advisors in private to their Prime Ministers is absolutely fundamental to a well performing Parliamentary system. In the UK the Monarch is as well informed on a daily basis as the prime Minister via 'Red Boxes'. One Pm commented that on one occasion the Queen was better informed than he was on some foreign policy matter. These are not remote disinterested people living off the people adding nothing. The UK taxpayer pays nothing and in return our Monarch is the last bastion of our democracy as he / she can dissolve a tyrannical Parliament and hand power to the people in an election. I am also greatly relieved that those of us who served and serve swear allegiance to a living breathing person who is not a political animal and can be gone the following week. Same with our judiciary and Police. All totally neutral as it should be. I watch at how the USA has managed its affairs the last few years and realise why many Americans look at us and have grieved with us. They maybe realise what their system does not provide - unity - and why it is permanently divided. The Queen is dead. Long live the King.

Must be a nice job, being the Lieutenant (I'm assuming is an aide of some sort), standing right behind the bigwigs for the proclamation of your new sovereign. Beautiful ceremony, even if I couldn't understand the Maori parts of it. Question: was the Sign Language interpreter a bit enthusiastic, or is that just how NZ Sign Language looks? God Save the King!
I think part of the speech is in the Maori language .I dont know. It was then followed by a speech in English most beautifully delivered. But what was most riveting, was the lady who interpreted both speeches in sign language. So very expressive and graceful , matching the eloquence of the speeches. I would much appreciate, if you could provide the names and designations of those who spoke on this momentous occasion,in the description box. And most definitely the name of the excellent lady interpreter, and if possible English sub titles so that we may the better follow the speeches which were delivered. God save the King!! sung so beautifully. Please may I know who the singer is? Thank you.

Would be very nice, definitely agree, BUT, I did check with government, and if you check on RU-vid through Jacinda, unfortunately, it was her call, via government, that you choose either kiwi English to use or Maori unfortunately :-( if Maori is used no translation is required unfortunately :-( I have made a complaint as well about it, government does not care about the problem, it is a "kiwi thing" unfortunately. I was involved in a group as well, some time ago; Maori greeting was done; I did ask for English translation, was told no! I made a complaint to the group, they were unhappy with the complaint! I left the group! Unfortunately as new area has arrived for the new King, could be new future for New Zealand as well unfortunately :-(

Oh man, gotta say the proclamation given by Australia, New Zealand and Canada were extremely anemic and downright embarrassing. And I'm not even a Monarchist. The Aussies and us Kiwis had to see a bunch of politicians make bland speeches before some old person read out the proclamation in the most warbly and un-impactful voices. The Canadians couldn't even mike up their herald properly and started the gun salute while the dude was repeating the proclamation in French for the Quebecois. This was supposed to be a solemn historic moment and our three countries tripped up badly.
Good grief! Couldn't even use the National Anthem God Save The King at the proclamation of Accession of Charles 3 as our king! It's time that NZ worked out how to properly mark these sorts of moments in our countries life.

I'd also blame nz's missionary society who hold power in the immigration sector, and the fact that they created their nz maori (pacific island imports) in 1840, the day of their bogus 'cry me a river' waitangi treaty, which was actually a cover up of the 1820/1840 mass murder musket genocides upon the first nation Kānaka Maoli, who rejected their proposed civil government. religious order and alien sovereignty in 1817.
If the Maoris stopped doing drugs, drinking themselves blind and actually got up in the morning and did jobs other than gangbanging then perhaps they would be doing much better. If someone from a different culture can come here from 10,000 miles away with no English skills and still make it whilst Maoris can't then they only have themselves to blame.

I love it when the majority of a country are subordinated to the culture of a resentful minority. Half of this was presented in a language the majority of the country doesn't understand.
This is just bad symbolism. The actual policies of Ardern are even more divisive and insane. Maori will have a health board, with everyone else put in a separate administration. Water resources will be stripped from elected local governments and run by large authorities with no democratic control.
