This track is 12 years after Give Me Your Soul...Please and yet sounds as if it came out right after Abigail. Shit is incredible. King's journey from his triple bypass until now is insane. He could have died but instead is producing masterpieces again. Can't wait for The Institute!

My first meeting with King was in 1988'. The first track I ever heard from the band was "Out From the Asylum" the introduction to the "Them" album. I been a fan ever since. I then purchased all of the earlier Mercyful Fate stuff (The Beginning, Melissa, Black Rose, Don't Break the Oath, Return of the Vampire along w/ Fatal Portrait, Dark Sides, Abigail Live 1987) Later the singles, The Eye, In the Shadows, Time, Spiders Lullaby, Conspiracy.. I went MIA from his albums after "Spider's Lullaby". I guess I grew old & went soft. No, I guess I just start living the family and bill paying life... Years later, I heard of his triple - by - pass surgery & felt immediately sad like I lost a family member... Then, then, the release of "Songs for the Dead" DVD... Pure perfection and professionalism. Every member was on point with every last note. Those performances were by far his best I've ever seen on stage. Andy was pulling strings like BB King... The actors were great and so were the backing vocals. Great performances. Truly inspiring considering his health issues & his age...( I have now watched "Songs for the Dead" at Fillmore and Grasspop at least 8-10 times. I can now say at 42 years old I am back into King and have began where I left off after the "Spider's Lullaby"). There is much new material to catch up on. I've heard many sources say the albums of the mid 90's on are not as great as the classics but I guarantee you a majority of these people were not King Diamond fans the way I was...Of course, I am going to judge for myself ! So I have a few albums to listen to... I heard "Puppet Master" is a good album. If King Diamond was a mainstream artist (Meaning not of the occult and Satanism. If his music was more commercial and the context of his lyrics reached a larger audience his return to music after his surgery would have been all over the music industry.) "Songs for the Dead" should have had a mention in Rolling Stone or earned him a nod for the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame. Not only his age, not only his health issues, but to maintain his style in the heavy metal genre is amazing... Honestly, I think of all the great singers not just in metal but all music (Even Whitney, Freddie Mercury, Plant..Whoever, all the great singers) Their styles deteriorated with age and these singers couldn't hold the notes at 50% of what they once did. Kim Bendix Petersen, aka King Diamond not only older than these people but performing a much more difficult singing style answered the call in "Songs for the Dead". Every song was on point ! The Abigail performance made me want to run outside and start a mosh pit in the middle of the street like I was 16 again... I then received a taste of "The Institute'. Rumor has it the album is going back to the roots of the earlier Diamond days. Listening to "Masquerade of Madness" I couldn't help not to smile... I don't know if any album could touch those classics but man, I think this song is off to a really promising start. The song definitely had that old raw vibe with the old school guitar solo and riff...I look forward to hearing this album. In the meantime, I'll be watching " Songs for the Dead" again on my new 80 TV WITH SURROUND SOUND ! :) Yeah, I had to take a break from Norah Jones and Dido for awhile. Haha... I had King Diamond posters all over my room when I was a teenager. I had T-Shits, seen two concerts in person, and was King for Halloween 3 years. There was a period in my life where I literally listened to nothing in my player but King Diamond and Mercyful Fate. I use to drive my friends crazy ! LOL...You all just don't know ! LOL...Take Care!
