This music WILL grow on you if you delve deeper. The musicianship of King Diamond and Mercyful Fate is top notch in the Metal music scene !!!! 🤘 People respect opera singers and classical music and this music combines both so I never get the discord .
Two things - what is interesting King Diamond's albums are concept ones, tell the story, like an opera for example; you might want to check the live version of this one, Filmore Academy, a few years ago
Pete Blakk aka Peter Jacobsson and Andy LaRoque aka Anders Allhage on guitars, Hal Patino on bass. The drums was recorded by Mikkey Dee (Motorhead, Scorpions). The drummer in the video are Snowy Shaw who replaced Mikkey Dee for the tour and recorded the next album called The Eye. Keyboards are done by Roberto Falcao.
I bought Mercyful Fate " Don't Break the Oath" way back in 1985 and I have to say that at first i found it a difficult listen.....but after a while the musicianship came through way above the vocals......very heavy and perhaps an acquired taste.....nobody sounds like King Diamond......but the music is great.....your spot on with the reaction.......first listen is difficult 👏👏
King's voice is polarizing. Some love it immediately, for others it's an acquired taste and some never like it. Personally, I love his voice. I view it as just another instrument that fits the music.
The growling parts are those of ghosts and the high-pitched voice is that of King, who is part of this two-record story, reminiscent of Edgar Allan Poe's works. I know you don't do full album reactions, but you should check out the plot to these albums on wikipedia in order to get the feel of what this band is trying to present.
