This came out before the Tom era. Nova was signed to Def Jam at this time. They were trying to make her into a rapping Brittany Spears but she wasn't into that. They ended up ghosting her. She swore off rap until Tom convinced her to do it again and she came out with her response to how she was treated with the song Hey You. Back in the day Nova had a show and Tom begged her to let him rap in it. She made him run around town putting up posters and they have been friends ever since. Another song from the Def Jam days is Batman.

There's literally ZERO point reacting to hey you without listening to the songs she's referencing in it. Basically all her prior singles and Dear Nova. Dear Nova is her best song anyway. Please don't ruin hey you for people. They'll never get to have that incredible first experience by listening to it and hearing all the references. She writes her stuff. She has a side project by herself playing guitar and piano too. This track was hype .it was from her contract days. Before her and Tom were in a relationship but they were friends . She took a lot of time off after the whole deal fell apart. Dear Nova is really deep.

You need to realize that when this was recorded, she was signed with DefJam and under their "creative direction". She recently bought herself out of her contract...after spending the last 8 years or so making them payments.

I don’t know how much into female rappers you were, but my favorite female rap artists back in the day were Salt and Peppa. If you’ve either never heard it or seen the video, I’d love to see you do a reaction to their song Shoop! I know it’s old-school, but that’s all the more reason to do it!!🙌😎Not only did they have their own sick flow and bars, they kept it classy rather than skanky. Just all around fun vibe.

You need to check out Tom's new video. 8:30 minutes of him going crazy. Its different. I know what youre thinking abd no, she doesnt write Tom's shit. You can ask Adam Calhoun, Dax, and everyone else Tom has done a song with. Adam and Dax have talked about Tom's pen game before. Nova said in an interview the reason she liked Tom's wrapping abd put him on his first show even though he never did a show before was because they have similar styles and influences. They both like punk and metal as well, you can tell by some of Tom's choruses. They even have a punk band together. Tom now produces all her music. But even if theres dome similarieites theres a huge difference in their pens. Nova can rap for sure, but Tom's pen game is better.
