Dear Eiji Eiji- There is no need to worry about me Eiji, I am finally at peace where no one can hurt me. I see Shorter and Skip everyday and we get to do whatever we want without worry! And yes, you grew up with no need to use a gun and I needed a gun. But, I am happy that you didn't. I'm happy that despite our differences we could get along. You reminded me that I am young and that it's okay to rely on someone every once in a while. I can't thank you enough Eiji. I just started Banana Fish today. I am so scared to watch ep 9 😭 edit: I just finished it a minute ago- oh my God....why? i have actually never felt this type of sadness before like, a part of my heart just shattered forever-

Ive been listening to this for ages and I never knew that it was a prayer for Ash- *he's not dead,* :)

He already made up his mind not to go and meet Eiji even for one last time, cuz he knows that it’s for the best for his friend. However, once he starts reading Eiji’s letter and saw the flight ticket, he felt a sense of hope and naivety. Maybe, just maybe, he could find happiness together with Eiji peacefully. Hence, he ran and ran, probably trying to catch Eiji. However, at that moment, he was stabbed by Lao. It’s not the shocked of being killed. It’s the realization, a slap back to reality that Ash knew that no matter what, he can’t escape his fate. As long as Eiji is with him, there will be revenge and more killings. Just like “Catcher in the Rye” and “Perfect day for bannafish”, he wants to preserve the innocence of Eiji. And hence, he decided to go to the library and finish reading Eiji’s letter. At the moment he finished reading it, it doesn’t matter if he’s not with Eiji, he already got his happy ending. He could feel the sense of care and love from Eiji, something that he never has felt before. He’s not the same as the leopard, because he didn’t die alone because Eiji’s soul will always be with him. And so, he draws his last breast with his chosen happy ending and with a smile on his face. With love and peacefulness in his heart. And with Eiji beside him. Must be a very beautiful dream indeed. Rest In Peace, Ash. We miss you!

Here's some more sadness and pain to add to what's already there. So basically sayonara is not a common saying in Japan for goodbye because it normally means you'll never see them again and that's why Eiji says "I should have never taught you to say sayonara" or something along those lines because he knew he wouldn't see him again after he got shot he just had a feeling I guess. I'm sorry for any tears I've caused

What hurts most is that Lao stabbed Ash because he knew if Sing and Ash fought one on one(as they agreed) Sing would never make it out alive, so he did it to protect Sing. But what he didn't know was that the fight was already called off(in episode 24) and everything was alright between Ash and Sing. Had Lao known this then, Ash Would have never died. He would have met Eiji and both of them would have gone to japan together.
