We have had our Balsam Hill for 14 years. It sheds lots of needles putting it up and taking it down but still looks excellent. It was $949.00 for a 7-1/2 foot Noble Fir. So that works out to $67.00 a year. I store it in giant wheeled trash cans, it’s five sections. You need some storage space for it. It is VERY realistic looking, people always compliment it. It lives in a pool house where temps are ambient running from about 10° to 110°F. After about 12 years the needles start to get weak and some fracture off. But it still looks beautiful. To me it was worth the steep price, getting so many years out of it.
I have had 2 Balsam Hill 9ft. Frasier Fir.(Color + Clear) First one after 1 month up and fully decorated the mid section lights went out. After a long back and forth with customer service, they agreed to send me a new one. Took down the fully decorated and up went new one. After 2 years (and still under warranty, thank heavens) the tree went out. Great customer service...sent me a new tree. That tree lasted 3 years..I tried everything and nothing worked and out of warranty this time. Price has tripled since I started with them so ended running out and getting a Lowes tree which I hate. The tree is beautiful..not enough lights. Added lights to it this year. Looked great but a pain to take down. Might as well just add lights to a naked tree.. The Balsam Hill Frasier Fir that I had, didn't have enough lights to use it with just color or just white...But with both on, spectacular. Tree is extremely heavy ( we are in our middle 60's and not super tall either!). Pain to put up, take down and store (takes up a lot of space). Also, understand the warranty...If you buy after Christmas..it starts then..meaning you are missing almost a year of warranty, You can also purchase extra 2 years but make sure you know what that covers and finally, because BH was the all time prettiest tree I've ever owned I have looked at their "Clearance" trees and they are "reasonable"...however I thought I saw that the 3 year warranty isn't valid on "clearance"..Better to call to get the full info fyi. I also have a KOC 7 1/2 foot flocked tree. Because its, smaller, it's easier to put up. Not enough lights for me but acceptable. Comes with remote that has 8 functions you will never use. One is strobe like...I wish they would add more lights and cut out all the other nonsense. Light color when all lights are out in room look a bit yellow/green but don't notice it when all the lights are on. It's still a beautiful tree when fully decorated and I would buy again. I guess there is no "perfect" tree!
I just returned my BH Stratford Spruce Unlit 7.5 Tree and purchased a KOC Yorkshire Fir Unlit Tree, very happy I did....1/2 the price, twice as nice. I was so disappointed in the BH tree. The KOC tree is the NYT's pick for Artificial Tree of 2023.
The BH tree gives a prettier appearance but the KOC quality is far superior. In two years the lighting system of the BH tree will fail, but KOC likely won’t. KOC has better electrical on their trees. The joints of the trunk are usually tighter on nearly all other brands of trees than what they are on BH. Personally my favorite brand of artificial Christmas tree is Puleo International. They have superior quality and electrical and stand the test of time. I gave so many reviews and suggestions on Puleo trees that in January 2023 I was invited to design a tree for Puleo that should be marketed for Christmas 2024!
I bought this exact BH tree last year after Christmas and just put it up this year. First of all it is a very beautiful and very realistic tree assembly was very easy. I do have to say the branches are so stiff it is a bit hard to get the hooks around the branches for the ornaments. KOC tree looks like the branches may be more flexable ( and easier to decorate maybe)
I like the Balsam Hill tree better. The darker green color is one reason. The other reason is that the blue lights on the King of Christmas tree are that harsh, fake electric blue that gives me a headache.
I went through this same comparison a couple years ago and chose the BH….same tree in fact that you have. Your tree looks like it could use more fluffing. The tree generally looks pretty full when fluffed a lot. Also, in comparison I went by tip count….and the BH fir has one of the highest and you get more lights.
I like the color of the balsam hill tree and did not shed. Plus the dimming of lights was important as you can always add twinkle lights. I would like to see the flocked Christmas trees. Thank you!
I just bought a 6 1/2 ft. BH Red Spruce Slim for the corner of my dining room- its a beautiful tree. I am now trying to decide if I want to get a fuller-sized, bigger tree for my den (I guess I'd consider it my "main" tree.) These trees are so expensive and I dont want to make a mistake in selecting the tree. It would be a huge hassle to return it. What I am most concerned about is the ability to get replacement bulbs. From research Ive done, it seems like BH customer service isn't that great- especially once the tree is out of warranty (BH has a 3 year warranty. KOC has a 2 year warranty.) There have been a lot of complaints in the customer reviews on the BH website regarding customer service. Its disappointing.
Balsam Hill has THE WORST customer service of any company I have ever dealt with. I called in January 2024 to order some new master bulbs (bulbs that act like fuses) and came in contact with extremely rude/angry people who could not care less that these particular bulbs weren't available.
I guess Balsam Hill, because I like the colors of colored lights more. At first I liked color of tree of balsam hill better but at times king of Christmas was more appealing. That is why a toss up.
The king of Christmas tree will fluff. For those back needles, put your thumb at the base of the bristle and push. The wire is harder than on the other tree. So push from the base where it connects to the branch instead of trying to move it around from the tip.
Balsam hill trees look real but the one I bought from them had big time problems with the incandescent lights. They sent section after section to replace the bad ones. Finally I said a new tree needs to be sent. Oh sorry sir that model isn't available. I still have problems. Terrible experience.
I am a bit bias. I own 6 trees, 1 swag, garland for my stairs, and two wreaths by BH. The KoC tree is nice, but BH is on a different level. Thanks for making this comparison video. It was quite informative.
Balsam Hill looks great. Just bought one on sale after Christmas 60% off. I would pay full price we with the quality. The king of Christmas looks a bit cheap. You could find similar at Lowe's or Home Depot
I prefer the BH tree, however I can't afford either one, especially with the exchange rate and shipping! (I'm Canadian) I appreciate this comparison video very much.
I Owen a lot of balsam hill stuff from ornaments to wreath, garland and a few trees I will always pick balsam hill. But with that being said I am disappointed with the ornaments for this year. Feel like there ornaments are starting to look cheap.
Definitely Balsam Hill for me. The branches are more realistic and the tree shape as well. I haven’t ever owned BH or King of Christmas but if I was planning to invent their cost, BH has my vote. 😊
I have the BH Fraser Fir 7.5 ft. and I got the narrow version, very glad I did. It’s slim without looking like a pencil tree, it looks like a regular tree just not as wide as the full version. I have never liked pencil trees because they are so narrow but love the BH narrow fir tree.

I have a balsam Hill flip tree and half the lights don’t work after a few years. Now what? They have fuses extra bulbs but after 2 hours of trying we bagged it up and will have no tree this year.. The branches are short and hard to place larger ornaments on The 71/2 ft. Height was great for my dining room bay window. The trees are not inexpensive and should last longer.
I think maybe you should have recused herself from this comparison given your obvious and admitted bias toward Balsam Hill. I’m wondering if you were paid to do it, either in money or product? At any rate I agree that the BH is a better color and the tips are more lifelike. I think the King of Christmas looks fuller, meaning that there are less gaps. I own a 7 1/2 foot Balsam Hill. When I put it in the stand the first time I was devastated at how sparse it was. It took hours to fluff it the first time, and there are still gaps. That is a common complaint that I read in reviews. You mentioned, but did not adequately stress the difference between the King of Christmas being pre-fluffed, and the BH requiring a lot of fluffing. Not only did you downplay that in your comments, you downplayed it in your video footage. You should have shown how much work that was. That is a big thing. I will add my bias to this review as well as I’ve had my BH for six years. It is beautiful, but sparse as I’ve mentioned. The other issue I’ve had the last two years is that whole sections of lights are not working. I have learned this year that BH no longer has replacement bulbs to fit my tree, and there are no other bulbs on the market that fit it. Given that, I would not buy either one of these trees. I had a pre-lit tree from Hobby Lobby and a pre-lit tree from Sears before I bought the BH, and they both lasted better, relative to the lights, than the BH. Once I can no longer use this one, I will go back to that. Between the sparseness, the poor customer service, and the light longevity, Balsam Hill trees are not worth the money.
I think the best christmas tree is a budget friendly one because not everyone can a afford those expensive christmas tree besides there nothing wrong with a holiday time christmas tree I have my for 10 years and still looks as i first brought it I don't why these youtuders think people can afford these christmas trees sorry.
I used the same Walmart tree on a $25 dollar clearance for 20 years. My husband propped it up on one side to level it as it started looking like the leaning tower of Piza. We exchanged out lights on it multiple times and finally my husband said, “Just get one of those BH tree’s you have been looking at for years….and I did. There is a time and place for everything and to each their own. Enjoy your cheap tree and we will enjoy our BH tree. Why aren’t you on the cheap tree YT channel anyway? 😂
