So true. There was a time in the sixties they showed it at Christmas and Easter altho they edited a few sceenes. I feel this movie and Jesus of Nazareth have brought about more conversions than church attendance.
Equally important this movie is surprisingly rated PG 13 despite the fact that most movies before the 1980's were rated G, PG, or rated R. I suspect the reason for this is because maybe the rating for this movie was changed long after it was produced as early as the 1980's.
This film is bloody amazing. I'm a not a religious person but I love Epic Movies of this time and Miklos Rosza soundtrack is one of the greatest in all of cinema. All the cast is fantastic and the production and design is so vast in scope. Definitely one of my favorite epic movies that I would watch again. Plus with that beautiful Overture and Entracte that is seen in so many movies at the time like the equally stunning Ben-Hur and Spartacus, this movie is golden and one of cinema's greats. Definitely one of my favorite films of all time. In the Top 25.
To this day, it's the best movie ever made about Christ, played by the great and handsome actor Jeffrey Hunter... Those eyes... My very first movie experience was King Of Kings and it had a great impact on my spiritual life. I LOVE YOU LORD!
I seen this movie when it first came out back in 1961 with my sister and i cried. I wish i knew how to get it on dvd so that my grandchildren can see the beauty of how I saw it

I watched this movie last Holy Wednesday 2020, very inspirational and giving us hope especially at this times, that we really need God to heal and protect us. I wonder this film about The Lord didn't get any single nomination at the Academy Awards especially during the era of Biblical Films, but it has a nomination for Musical Score at the Golden Globes. "I come to free John". King of Kings gets better each time I watch it. Also, each time I watch King of Kings I realize how integral Ron Randell's Lucius is to this great film.
This was the movie I was looking for to show my young son. With all due respect to any other newer of fresher movie versions....this actually works better because the movie was made 1961. More relevance and has a more vintage appeal with all the glory of old Hollywood. Who wouldn't want to tell the tale of the King of Kings narrated by anybody else besides Orson Welles?

Weve spoken with many people within the church and outside of church...after seeing jeffreys classic performance of christ...you do then believe THERE IS A CHRIST,,,magnificent,haunting and believable....jeffreys low voice is so capturing to all viewers of this movie.....the real Jesus would have been simillar in fishing so many followers..apart from the many miracles jesus made..he had to have a simillar voice and presence like that of jeffrey hunter to captivate and reform many millions around the world. Priests and bishops around the world have confirmed that what we are saying is highly true!!!

I've seen all the ultra mega biblical ultra wide screen movies in Grand old HUGE movie palaces. C.G.I. SUCKS compared to movies like KING OF KINGS. CAST OF thousands of real people no blue screen crap. and the new Ben Hur movie. wife and I walked out half way through the movie. pathetic!

I find it amazing how many people think King of Kings is one of the best Biblical films ever. No, it was not awful, but it certainly omitted many of the events in Jesus ministry that would have made it far more substantial. In that sense the unfairly maligned Greatest Story Ever Told was more coherent. And some of the writing in Kings is just too funny: turning Herod Antipas into a debauched yahoo and making Rita Gam look like an ad for Maybelline is hysterical. On the plus side is the unforgettable music, far more worthy than the overall film, the deliciously preening Hurd Hatfield and the elegant, noble Viveca Lindfors, despite her Annette Funicello hairdo, and Brigid Bazlen’s sultry snotnose Salome. And of course gorgeous Jeffrey Hunter, who cannot compare to Robert Powell in Zefferelli’s version, but he is eye candy.
