Enjoy this video from the Fishing Addicts NW team highlighting the great fishing at our CCA King of the Reach Live Capture Derby.
This is, without a doubt, the most unique fishing derby in the region. Instead of anglers catching and killing fish to win prizes, our participants catch and collect live wild Hanford Reach fall chinook salmon that are delivered to hatchery staff for use as broodstock fish. This ensures better quality genetics for our hatchery stock on the "Reach" and also helps the hatchery comply with hatchery genetic requirements. Thousands of dollars in prizes are awarded, and the derby is hosted on waters open only to derby participants. One year saw an angler submit over 50 fish during the three day event!
The King of the Reach derby is hosted annually, with the event falling on the last weekend of October. Grant PUD and WDFW are the co-sponsors of the derby, along with the remarkable volunteers from the CCA Tri-Cities chapter. The footage in this video was taken from the White Bluffs section of the Columbia River during the 2016 derby.
We look forward to hosting you at our derby next year.
