CALIFORNIA - Welcome to California, USA, and today we’re going on a California BBQ tour, eating lots of tri-tip steak on the grill, and one of the thickest juiciest cuts steaks in the United States!
Friends in the video:

Cold Spring Tavern (5995 Stagecoach Rd, Santa Barbara, CA 93105, United States) - One of the greatest legendary and historical destinations in California for BBQ tri tip is Cold Spring Tavern, it’s a hidden gem. You can choose to sit down without the tavern or forest, and they serve up tri-tip sandwiches in a huge way. They are delicious especially when paired with all their signature sauces. Their onion rings are also fantastic. Price - $13 per sandwich
Jocko's - Steakhouse (125 N Thompson Ave, Nipomo, CA 93444, United States) - Next up on this California BBQ meat tour we drop to Nipomo, and to one of the most legendary steakhouses in the United States - Jocko’s. Jeffrey had been telling me about their double cut XXL spencer steak grilled over red oak. It’s every bit as amazing and more than it sounds. One of the best steaks ever.
Da Hickory House BBQ (2790 Seaglass Way, Oxnard, CA 93036, United States) - Finally to wrap up this food tour we drove over to Oxnard and Raquel took us to Da Hickory House BBQ for a leg sized tri-tip sandwich!

The Central California is really an undertold story of settlement in the US. The food is some of the last remnants of that culture but Santa Maria tri tip is definitely an important part of that history along with the California Black Oak wood. Same can be said about the remaining basque restaurants up and down Central California. Stories that need to be told from Santa Barbara to Santa Cruz and the whole Valley too. Great Video.

Oh gawd! So, she was the only individual that heard a baby crying? She just had their baby so of course she was going to check on the baby regardless. When I was at Target this evening some mother must have had left her motherly instinct at home because she left her 4yrs old son stranded.

Those grills are called, "Santa Maria" style grills. They are what California BBQ is all about. History: The old Mexican rancheros and Gringo Cowboys created their own thing. Basically, California BBQ. It's meat, grilled on a Santa Maria style grill served with bread loaves and basic pico de gallo salsa and beans. THAT'S IT! THAT'S ALL! That's California BBQ. You were very close to "Santa Maria" the city itself. Why didn't you head out there?! You could get the real deal! In Santa Maria there is a truck that does Filipino style Santa Maria BBQ. Interesting. Delicious. Every time in in Santa Maria, I gotta try a new place. But, the true trick to the Santa Maria style grilling is lowering the meat down into the flames with the chain and leaving it to smoke. It's not there for decoration ya know. Well, Santa Maria style BBQ is truly one of my favorite styles especially due to the history of it all. IT's like one of the first fusion foods in Cali. Gringo and Mexican combined forces and created this great thing!

If you ever want to do a backyard tour in santa maria let me know and i will gladly hook you up with as many backyard bbqs as you want to film! Thats where tri tip comes alive! Native santa marians mostly all own at least one bbq pit, and cook tri tip regularly! Try santa maria hospitality sometime, you wont regret it! P.S. if you ever make it on a nice summer weekend just go by waller or priesker park, you will smell tri tip cooking everywhere! Santa maria style bbq is the best! Its a smoky hot, fast cook!

You need to go to New Orleans, Yuka. Get some Po Boys or Muffaletta. There are a lot of great sandwich places all over the US. Subway is just a chain place. It doesn't even compare to the originals stuff.

A thick slice of fresh mozzarella on that sandwich would probably be epic.

The key to the tri tip bbq culture of the area is the abundance of native Californian oak trees, it’s the best wood for bbq. Been to jockos many times, it’s my favorite steakhouse in the state.

Linguica = ling-gwee-suh Even after hearing the waiter pronounce it, Jeffrey STILL mispronounced it. Idk man of all the guests and people that Mark eats and tours with, he's the only one that gets under my skin. Maybe it's me.

I grew up in that area... and you're making me miss a good tri-tip sandwich. Used to be a deli out in Gaudalupe that sold the best ones. It was like till sold out kind of thing back in the day. Granted way before California go to "sanitary" and made everyone get a health permit and have requirements to meet, you used to be able to go up and down Broadway in Santa maria and there were like literally 100's of booster clubs to get tri-tip from. It was amazing. As far as steaks go, it was all about the hitching post for me out in Casmelia. Also, its lin-gwee-sa not lin-gueek-ka
