My friend died at Christmas, and wanted us to share the festive spirit with her in her passing. So, we sang carols at her funeral. This one included. A beautifully performed version, lovely to hear again - if difficult.
the harmony is the chorus/refrain isnt falsetto! these are young boy trebles, this is their natural singing voice. 100 times more beautiful and pure than any falsetto could ever be.
Been ill this Christmas so my darling niece decided to send me the best the very best gift, an English choir , there is nothing more beautiful on earth , a bit of heaven , my niece is very special leave it to her to send this glorious music ❤️
I always accepted that young boys could sing as high as soprano, but these young men singing as high as they do in their solos is amazing. I'm a baritenor and I couldn't dream of hitting a lot of these notes. Merry Christmas, everyone.
@@lostmangos For the younger boys, their voices just haven't changed yet and so they're "boy sopranos," but the grown men singing in that range are countertenors.
Just gotta flex that falsetto. The more you use it, the better it gets. I'm a bass, can't even hit tenor range in my regular voice, but every Christmas I sing the soprano descant parts of various carols in full voice! :D
@@TheRealestKuni that's awesome, I know there are some good falsetto singers like Frankie Vallie or Freddy Mercury, but it generally has a slight goofiness to it. Choir singers are something else.
Christmas is my favorite time of year, and it’s the middle of July. I am returning to this to remind myself of the joy approaching in just a few months ❤
You'll be able to see them after this short time on Earth, don't be too sad. Although I wouldn't be able to empathise with you, so I'm not sure if not being "too sad" is so easy.
I love Christmas carols.I have been known to listen to them all year round when I need a reason to smile.I don't go to church or have any strong beliefs, one way or another, but when I hear these moving words, they call me to believe in someone higher then ourselves...
Carols were first sung in Europe thousands of years ago, but these were not Christmas Carols. They were pagan songs, sung at the Winter Solstice celebrations as people danced round stone circles (The word carol originally meant to dance to something). ... The word Carol actually means dance or a song of praise and joy!
It's January and I'm still listening to this repeatedly. I think I'll revel at this beauty of sound and human achievement into Spring, then Summer, through Autumn and eventually just in time for the next time the holly bears it's berries.
Truly the peak of civilization's achievement for this year. I am very blessed just to be able to hear this choir from my New York home on Christmas Eve. Thank you from the debts of my spirit and soul.
We have deer running in the back yard of our new house now. and not only at the rising of the sun. They just appeared for the first time on Christmas eve. Now all we need is a merry organ and a choir! But after this difficult year, I'll settle for the deer. Hoping they're a good omen for 2021!
I have waited far to long to hear this the most splendid of carols. Then I remembered utube and the incredible access it allows us. I am lost for words, always one weakened by great beauty. Weakened because we grow in awe at the finest arts of our world. Joyful that they sing out. All the expression of the higher soul. The tradition of the Kings Choir:la crème de la crème. The discipline and devotion. The voices that aspire to angelicness. The glorious voices. Yes I'm speechless and I have seen Black Sabbath and other greats.
Which times have not been troubled since the dawn of man? These carols/vespers reveal the inner-light of God, that shines in all hearts, whether you're Christian or other.
This acapella version of this song is a truly soul lifting experience. If this is a prelude on how we will hear music in heaven than I am for it! Praise be Jesus! Thank you for sharing this beautiful melodic experience! 11 years ago? Really?
Y'all betta have this Harmony!!!!! I was having a horrible mental moment , and singing all the songs from concert choir just soothes my soul. This was amazing
Dear LE R.... The Christmas 'spirit' is not relegated to winter months, Jesus Christ was actually born in June if you read all of your true History. They transplanted his birth to supplement the Pagan Holidays.
I know how that feels. I spent 6 years in Australia as a teenager (many years ago). My first Christmas in the Northern Hemisphere after all that time was a time to remember. Hope it snows for you.
I too happened to stumble upon Kings College Choir and am so blessed! This song from this video literally brought me to tears! I tried to find this version on iTunes, and while they do have two versions of the song from the Kings College Choir, none of them matched the quality found in this video! This is the best by far. God bless!
I really loved listening to these singers and this song, that I hadn't heard since I was a little nipper. Been having a little bad luck recently, so out on my walk yesterday, collected a few sprigs of holly and some ivy, goodness knows why? Put them in a glass tumbler on my window ledge, then read about holly and ivy, and how it can bring some luck and ward off bad things. I wonder if it'll work? :)
Absolutely Beautiful! I must listen to this year round to lift my spirits and restore thankfulness into my heart. What a blessing classic choral music and wonderful voices provide!
It's amazing, if you keep your ears open, & with a little luck, a new ( for you ) Christmas song / hymn can enter your life. In 2009 I attened an Advent Lessons & Carols at a small Church here in Edmonton Alberta, and heard One Small Child for the first time.
Thank you, spiritdei! I'm not a native English speaker and my country does not have a tradition of Christmas carols. It seems like every Christmas time I find out a new English carol! This year it's this one. I'm also researching and learning more about this splendid choir. Who are the young gentlemen harmonizing? Are the older boys considered the Choir Scholars? Thank you so much for taking the time to post this. It's truly uplifting :)
Vincent Vargas Please do not pollute beautiful Christmas music with a ridiculous comment that attempts to promote a multiple-adulterer, and lying revolting individual Trump.
He's also supposed to have written "Greensleeves" too (he didn't write either but he did compose some such as "Pastime with Good Company" which is sadly not one of the classics.)
