I will never get over the end of this game...King just up and dies, and Graham just takes the throne, all "Don't mind if I do!" *props legs up on corpse*
My God, how have I not found your channel on RU-vid before. Not only are you extremely geeky which is essential, but after the "I don't understand 'ENGLISH'" bit, you've hit exactly the right mark and now I'm subscribed.
I miss Sierra games. The text parser challenged you to think, but that's what made it fun. I can appreciate how games like King's Quest were a landmark in the technology of computer adventure games and helped set the tone for future adventure games. Thanks for making this video, Paw.
I just found this...and it made my day. My husband keeps trying to talk to me and I keep shushing him. It made me remember everything I loved about the original KQ1 with the text commands. The remade one with more KQ6-type commands was fun...but you can't beat the comedy (and eventual frustration leading to an epic sense of triumph) that the text commands gave.
These are unquestionably my ultimate FAVORITE games in existence, and I am absolutely enamored of you for....doing this!!! So stoked to see them all in retrospective, especially Perils of Rosella and Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow....after I've just confessed my love for you....this isn't awkward...THANKS FOR KEEPING THEM ALIIIIVE!!
I remember downloading KQ1 because of your Let's Play, and that first bridge I SWARE TO GOD I could not get past the first bridge in the game ._. I kept trying but I'd fall of. ...but you, Paw DUUUUgan, man of all men, get past it like tis but a scratch. I love you.
Awesome! Kings Quest is pretty much my childhood. And oh lord, Mask of Eternity ... I remember my dad and older sister (She was 8 at the time) were up several nights trying to beat the game. They did eventually, but yeah, my poor sister got maybe 3 - 4 hours of sleep and had school the next day. Im glad I wasn't old enough so I didn't have the horrible job as manual reader :D
7:04 If you have the magic shield with you when you encounter the giant, it will prevent him from killing you, so it won't matter where you stand while you wait for him to fall asleep.
I was playing Minecraft and was messing around, when I started putting up pictures (in Minecraft when you put one up it's randomized), and out of nowhere, I obtained a picture of King Graham from the very first King's Quest! Really epic little easter egg there.
great videos on one of my favourite game-franchises ever! am downloading the Kings Quest Episodic Game (2015/2016) just right now on Steam :-) excited to play that newest KQ game! almost feeling just as thrilled as when I bought KQ6 when I was a 10 year old kid (huge box and like 10 diskettes), I am 37 years now :-)
It's called "Greensleeves." The same tune is also used as a Christmas carol called, "What Child is This?" If I remember right, it was used as the opening theme for the first two games.
That was awesome! I've been playing King's Quest since I was 4 or 5, and I still love them! I've played them all, but 5 and 6 are my favorites. I have them all but sadly my computer is a little bit fast, so even if the game manages to play, something always ends up glitching sooner or later DX I hope you do more KQ LPs! The first one you did was amazing 8D
Agree with you 100%...just wish this style of games hadn't quit. With the internet, walkthroughs, and general lack of need to use your brain anymore with games, I sadly don't see them returning. Enjoy your commentary of the series though.....FINGERBANG!!! hahaha
Actually, the first classic computer mouse concept was demonstrated in 1968 by the famous Douglas Engelbart. Prototypes by other people may have existed before that. I think the concept of the trackball is older than the mouse for example.
Ah, the King's Quest Companion...I tend to refer to it as "The Bible" when playing KQ games. I can't wait to see more of these. I grew up with King's Quest and Space Quest games, though it wouldn't be until the invention of the internet that I actually was able to beat most of them.
You can climb back up the well :) I used to do it before I knew about the water trick. Can't remember exactly what you typed, but something along the lines of "climb rope" or "jump to rope" when you're in the water below.
never played any sierra adventure games when i was a kid i played the lucas arts ones. but still its mighty interessting stuff this will be a fantastic series i am sure. =P
I never grew up with kings quest but I do recall screenshots of these games as a kid. I had a demo of Escape from monkey island and the full game of sam and max hit the road.... the rest were all old school FPS games. There is one game I guess can be compared to Kings Quest for its "Try and Die" difficulty and thats possibly heart of darkness. I really enjoy playing or watching people play this game. I'm terrible at them since I'm a newcomer of these games and man its hard X_X.
I still own the King's Quest Companion book that he showed in the video. I also own the Leisure suit Larry Companion book. I love Sierra classic adventure games. I hope GOG can get them all. I am glad I already own all 6 games of LSL on CD. It wont come to GOG unless Codemasters says so. ILong live Sierra Online.
That's strange... I played these games as a child (thanks Granny for introducing me to the best games ever!) and when I entered Rumpelstiltskin backwards as in Nikstlitslepmur, it worked. I was playing a slightly graphically enhanced version where you still used text commands but could use the mouse if I remember correctly. Was this changed? Love video by the way.
Fun fact, in the game, they spelled "Rumpelstiltskin" wrong, they spelt it "Rumplestiltskin", swapping the E and L, so even if you knew what the alphabet trick was, you still got it wrong.
Apparently spelling "Rumplestiltskin" (with the swapped E and L) to get Nikstlitselpmur would also work (according to Sierra Planet) so you didn't have to do the whole alphabet thing.
Actually, I think you can defeat it that way--that's the way I always defeated it when I played as a kid, because I wasn't smart enough (or creative enough) to think of another way. I believe you can type "jump to rope" or some such thing to climb back out of the well.
So I just installed my 97 King's Quest collection on my PC using the DosBox but I can't get it to save no matter what I do, anybody know a trick to getting it to recognize a correct directory?
Okay, i'm just gonna throw myself on my own sword here, BUT, i kind of liked MoE...............HEAR ME OUT, hear me out please............ I liked the STORY, but the game play and graphics..............uggggkkkkk. felt like they were behind schedule and just slopped it together
