I think this is one of the best "niche hobby" documentaries I've ever seen, speedrunning or not. Extraordinarily well editted, directed, and told. Amazing interviews, great job telling a cohesive story that was easy to understand as someone who has never played any KQ games, yet still made me care about each runner's achievements (both within the game and outside of it) and each of the game's milestones. Absolutely masterful work. You and the KQ6 community should feel very proud of what you've done.

i like this recent trend of all these niche speedrunning communities doing these WR histories of their own games that they're really passionate about. there's something so special about all the people coming together to document their small part in it and just archiving it for the sake of it. i especially loved how this one doesn't have a singular narrator, everyone just kinda chirps in for their story, great job

The King's Quest series meant a lot to me growing up. The first time I played KQ3, I didn't even know the K in "knife" is silent. I sat with a Swedish-English dictionary and looked up words as I went along. I learned English to try to survive these games, and it fostered a lifelong love of studying languages. When I finally got my very own computer, KQ6 was the first PC game I ever owned. All that aside, this was such a great video. Your script is amazing, the interviews were great, and you pulled it all together fantastically. You rock, and you really painted this community as a bunch of loveable human beings. Keep up the good work! :)

Something I love about speedrunning is one that I also love about golf. Everyone is competing against each other, but... not really. They are really competing against the course. Or in this case, the game. And the field is always thrilled when one of their fellow players shatters the course record with a new low score, or a new WR time in a run.

Haha, dude, so I was just having a conversation w/ my brother abt how speedrunning has gone so completely insane that you could probably look up King's Quest VI & find a speedrun on it. So I looked it up & instead I find a fu'king hour long documentary on the history of specifically King's Quest VI, & specifically the speedrunning of it, w/ in depth personal interviews w/ stand-out runners of KQVI. & w/ 175,000 views!!! ROFL! God Bless, man. I loved watching what you put together, you've got a nack for knowing when & where to put what footage, etc, & you used the various music from the game exceptionally well, IMHO.

Sometimes the algorithm works. I uploaded a vgm cover of the catacombs today and this came up. Played KQ6 in 94 even tho I had just learned english. I tried every little thing, it is indeed possible to finish a casual run with excactly 50% of the points. Seeing you friendly people brake and run it feels very exciting. Great documentary. I left a sub

So glad you liked it! Cool cover of the catacombs. It's always nice to see different interpretations of Sierra themes. I found this one (not mine) years ago, but it seems to have been erased from the internet: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AtoUA29hI_M.html

Just finished watching this and checked the boards only to realize two new runners have taken 1st and 2nd place since then, so I guess the community is still growing.

I'm beyond late to the party, watching this nearly 3 years after the video's release, but it's gotta be my favourite speedrunning story so far. The genuine happiness for each other's successes and the support you guys give to one another is a great testimony as to why people get into speedrunning. I'm not a runner at all, but I can surely see why people get into it. Great work, both the people in your community, and you specifically, OneShortEye, for this excellent video.

This is so cool. I remember playing this with my mom back when it came out on our old Compaq. We had so much fun with it. Thanks for bringing back some of those good memories and sharing some new ones.

What an absolute amazing, wonderful look at a community coming together to advance their speedgame! I love the used of primary sources here, bringing together those runners to tell their own thoughts and stories.

One of my favorite games of all time! The Win 3.2 version blew me away. The richness of the story was fantastic. The little guidebook to the Green Isles added so much immersion! I would use the book for designing my own fantasy lore in table-top RPG games.
