Scott recently came out with Kevin Fox of Fox Fishing 4K and had an amazing time smashing giant King Salmon and Giant Lake Trout on Georgian Bay. He had such a great time he wanted his younger brother Mike to experience it. Kevin offered the guys a morning trip despite calling for heavy downpours. Kevin explained that before a storm the fishing can be really good and he suggested they give it a try. Kevin stated "Wind is lightning are my only concerns" and explained that rain has never flipped a boat over before. Scott laughed and stated "We are IN!"
This video shows the day Scott, Mike and Kevin hooking into 21 fish including Chinook Salmon (King), Lake Trout, and Herring.
Check out the video here of some of the best fishing Georgian Bay has to offer.

One thing to keep in mind using the OR16 clip method is that occasionally on a hard rip, a wrap or two can pop off causing the clip to slide. The way to beat this is to do 3-4 wraps on each clip (I prefer 3 wraps as 4 can be a bit challenging to draw tight at times). There's typically enough grip at that point to prevent slide with 3-4. Don't mean to step on your vid, just thought I'd offer the tip to those wanting to learn this method. Definitely prefer it over short leads, the carabiner method, or the S-clip method.
@FoxFishing4K
@FoxFishing4K Год назад
You are correct. I usually wrap 3-4 on the front clip and 2 on the back clip to prevent sliding and freying. Also always wrap the side with the tooth otherwise it WILL fall off lol.

Great video! One detail I am wondering about (sorry if I missed it in the vid), do you clip into the Dipsys on the braid or using the fluoro leader. Just trying to figure out if the wrap method will fray the braid? Thanks!
@FoxFishing4K
@FoxFishing4K 2 года назад
We clip in above the fluorocarbon onto the braid. This way when popping dipsy its only braid between angler and dipsy and no stretch. We found wrapping 2-3 times prevents slipping and we have never seen any fraying.

Great video, solid boat. I began rigger fishing not that long ago. I often see fish come and follow the weights but would not take a spoon or a fly. My most productive spoon so far is NBK, I troll at 2-3mph with spin doctor or a SS dodger. Would appreciate if you share what can be done to entice fish to bite on a day like that? Thank you.
@FoxFishing4K
@FoxFishing4K Год назад
Shorten leads. Depending on size of spoon slow down or speed up. Also every 5 min turn boat left and right. See which side takes the hit. Inside slow down. Outside speed up. NBK is an amazing spoon. If Stinger size don't go over 2.7mph as it will blow out

Do you find that this changes the diving ratio at all on your divers? I've been running this for a year now and just noticed that my line out is close to a 1:1 ratio on my high divers on a 2.5 setting. I'm basing that off of seeing them go down on my graph. Kinda puzzling
@FoxFishing4K
@FoxFishing4K Год назад
I would think it would affect the diver some. Likely more line and drag from the back of the diver? Very possible. That's something I have never thought about. Good observation.

I use a snubber with a dipsey to have some give, have you tried mono and fluorocarbon as a leader?
@FoxFishing4K

We stopped using snubbers about 3 years ago. We normally use Mono for the leader due to the stretch. Fluorocarbon looses half it's strength once stretched.

Next video I will show my spoon box and do a full gear review. I will show how I modify spoons and also my top 10 spoons! Thanks for the wonderful comment. As for Collingwood switch between flutter sppons, flasher/fly and plugs/lymans./ Collingwood the fish can only be biting on one presentation for the day. You have a lot of sand over there as well with very little structure. We have done extremely well on the small humps and transitions on those flats in 90-130 fow. For better numbers though when you come out of Collingwood the farther you head north towards Thornbury the better it is. Just watch out for that East wind! That area has very clear water so I suggest running long leads.

Hi, I've heard several places that the baitfish are small in the spring, thus running smaller spoons makes sense. It came to me though, that in the spring the only bait fish around are those that survived at least from the spawn before. Wouldn't that mean that the bait fish would be bigger since there is no newly spawned bait fish? Thanks

Dipsy trick has been done for quite sometime on Lake Ontario - even with guys running wire - wire to 30/50 foot section of 80-100lb braid then floro leader - clip dipsy to braid
@FoxFishing4K
@FoxFishing4K 2 года назад
Never seen anyone do it before. That's cool if others have done it or figured it out too. We have done this for years and this is the first time we have released it. I'm sure a lot of people will do this trick now.
@plattinumfishing
@plattinumfishing Год назад
Definitely not a new trick, guys were using this years ago. Lots of online discussions about this to replace slide divers as well. Only know a couple guys that like this style. Most will take a good old 8ft leader any day over wrapped braid on clips with a big king on the line.
@FoxFishing4K
@FoxFishing4K Год назад
@@plattinumfishing Everyone has there own style. We use this method to change the action of the spoon. It gives a similar action to copper or Weighted steel without 400-500 feet of line out. Also extremely handy fighting a fish with just you, light gear and a spoon. No dipsy or extra weight on the line like a slide diver. We showed a few Lake O guys over the last few years and a bunch have switched over to this method. Some probably were doing this already on there own too. There are also other ways we rig them that we are still keeping secret ;) 0All methods take fish on any given day. Some days the Kings want the diver close to the bait and sometimes they are light biting and need long leads. We will run a diver close to the bait in the fall, especially when the kings are really active. This just gives more people options out on the water. If people don't like it or have another preffered way, then it's all good 😀! I dont think we invented the method but i think we are one of the first to pass the trick andninformation around to others. More tricks, tips, and hints to come as well :). Tight lines out there my friend and thanks for the comment.
@plattinumfishing
@plattinumfishing Год назад
@@FoxFishing4KSorry I didn't mean to troll or argue your post, but you did come off like you had invented it. Just stating lots of guys were sharing this and different clip methods years ago in the fishing forums... Also clipping a dipsy to your line is not similar to running 400 or 500 copper or ws, it is still a diver just with a longer lead.

Never lost a diver. I let out how much lead I want 20, 50, 75 or 100 feet. Then attach dipsy and reset the counter on the reel and let it out.
@FoxFishing4K
@FoxFishing4K 2 года назад
I determine how far to let it out based on the size of dipsy, and setting for the depth of the fish. If I see fish at 65 feet down I let out 180 feet at 3 setting to get to thst depth. If fish are at 50 feet I would let out maybe 145 feet on 3 setting. Your diver will come with a guide.

Couple questions for you guys!!! How much fluorocarbon line do you attach to your mono downriggers? How do you attach the mono to fluorocarbon line? Uni knot? How fast miles per hour are you traveling over ground? I am marking a ton of salmon but they're not biting, any tips to make them bite? What is the scent that you use for salmon on the spoons? Now that it's August are you still running spoons in Georgian Bay or what else should I run? If you want to get out in Collingwood for salmon fishing hit me up I'd love to take you!
@FoxFishing4K
@FoxFishing4K Год назад
1.) I use REDOLENCE SCENT. Best scent I have ever used. Niagara fish assasins tested it on a boat and that line caught 80% of there fish. 2.) We run 50-75 feet of fluorocarbon leads to our mainline. 3.) If I have time at home I will tie an FG knot as it's the smallest knot and it goes through the guides easiest. If I am on the bait uni to uni or blood knots are what I use. 4.) We like are spoons between 2.1-2.7 mph. Best action and speed for running several different size spoons. Your light flutters won't blow out on you. Up around 3mph you must run larger spoons for proper action as they can handle the speed. I will be doing a bunch more videos on this stuff in detail as I am getting a lot of questions like this. Thanks for the comment!! Much appreciated. I like the clip idea. I will do this before trying weighted steel. How do you decide to run a 25 foot lead or 100 foot lead on the mono. Salmons face is all bone. No way your ripping that hook out. The 20lb test line would snap first.

Wow how many fish did he loose ??
@FoxFishing4K
@FoxFishing4K Год назад
We run long leads. When the fish hits it puts slack in the line. You have to get to the rod quick to bring up the slack. If your not paying attention it affects hook up ratios. We also use siwash hooks. The salmons face is all bone and if you get a good hook set you won't loose the fish from tearing out. As long as the line doesn't break your good. It's all about tension keeping these fish on the line.

No wonder u keep missing the rigger bites leave the rod in the holder until u wind down the slack and never and I mean never do the bass hook set.thats not a herring it's a white fish.
@FoxFishing4K
@FoxFishing4K 2 года назад
It is 100% a herring. Look at the mouth. The hook set isn't to hook the fish it is to bring up slack. We run extremely long leads to get more bites. The problem with longer leads is more slack generated. I would rather get 3 bites and miss one then get 1 bite. It's the trade off we take. These guys are newer at downrigging too. The one guy was his first time. They both did extremely well for the amount of times they have been out.

We used to reel down our rods while in the holder before. With the long leads the same thing happened. We may try different releases where we can load the rod more and have it like a hairline trigger. Hoping that helps. The other thing is all our spoons run siwash hooks. We loose more fish on the initial bite but when it benefits is the BIG kings after a 10-20 minute fight they don't get off. Lots of small details we do to get 20-40 fish days which are coming in the next 2-3 weeks.

Hey NICK just wanted to let you know I have been telling people to just reel down the rod first whonare new in the boat. It has helped a lot with new fishermen. Thanks for the comment and suggestion. Much appreciated.

Imagine ripping something that catches fish. I’ll take copper over riggers and braid divers any day of the week..

Lets go head to head. I will catch and land 2 fish by the time you even reel your copper to the boat! ;)

@@mattsmith2789 Michigan has an amazing fishery. Copper works I just don't want to reel all that line in. Tournaments are about 1 thing. The more time fishing the more time you have to catch fish. Every minute tangled, fighting a fish, reseting your loosing a line in the water. If I can use techniques that take 3 minutes to land a fish rather then 15 minutes and have the same bite percentage I would be silly choosing the other method. Our dipsys we get the same action with half the line and we get more bites period! You have fun reeling in all your copper though. If that's what you like doing nothing wrong with that. But if you catch 7 salmon and I catch 14. I have amuch better chance to catch a BIG ONE!
