King Saul 

In this skit Billy and Hezekiah learn that Israel asked the prophet Samuel to give them a king so they could be like all the other nations. King Saul started out humble but soon began doing what he wanted to do rather than what God instructed him to do. Because of this, King Saul’s reign was short-lived and the kingdom was given to someone after God’s own heart.
Memory Verse:
So Samuel said: “Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams.” (1 Sam 15:22 NKJV)
Lessons:
• God knows the number of all the stars and has named each one
• Samuel made his sons, Joel and Abijah, judges in Israel but his sons were dishonest
• The people of Israel asked Samuel for a king
• God told Samuel that he wasn’t being rejected as Israel’s leader, God was being rejected
• Samuel warned the people what it would be like to have a king, but the people still wanted a king
• God told Samuel to anoint Saul as their king
• Anoint means to rub or pour oil on someone which showed that they were chosen by God for a special purpose
• Prophets, priests and kings were anointed with oil
• Jesus is a prophet, priest AND king
• Messiah (Hebrew) and Christ (Greek) mean: ‘The Anointed One’
• Saul was the most handsome person in all of Israel and was taller than everyone else
• Saul’s father sent him and a servant to look for some lost donkeys
• After three days Saul decided they should return home so his father wouldn’t worry
• The servant suggested they go ask Samuel to help them find the donkeys
• Samuel told them that the donkeys had been found
• Samuel anointed Saul with oil
• The next week, Samuel presented Saul as the new king to the people of Israel
• Saul rallied 330,000 men to rescue a whole city in Israel
• Before a battle with the Philistines Saul was supposed to wait 7 days for Samuel to come and offering a sacrifice
• The Israelites were afraid of the Philistines and many left the army
• Saul disobeyed God by offering a sacrifice himself rather than waiting for Samuel
• God helped someone named Gideon defeat a huge army with only 300 men
• As soon as Saul finished offering the sacrifice, Samuel arrived
• Samuel told him that his dynasty wouldn’t last
• God told Saul to completely destroy their enemy Amalek because they had attacked Israel as they were leaving Egypt
• Saul spared the king of Amalek and all of the best things
• Saul set up a monument for himself
• Samuel told him that to obey God is better than sacrificing to Him
• Samuel told him that when he was little in his own eyes, God had made him the king
• When Saul was anointed, he had pointed out how he was from the smallest tribe in Israel and the smallest family in the tribe of Benjamin
• Saul hid at his coronation and they had to ask God where he was
• Saul grabbed Samuel’s robe and ripped it
• Samuel told Saul that the kingdom of Israel had been torn from him and that God had rejected him as king
• Samuel no longer saw Saul for the rest of his life
• God gives each one of us different gifts and abilities
• God should be the ruler of our lives
