I saw Jimi Hendrix and dropped out of high school, walking away from a university art scholarship, to get a steel factory job so I could buy a 1964 Stratocaster and order a Marshall amp from England. All of my life I have been a non-smoker, non-drinker, and wrote a music column for newspapers. That said, it's not the best being a celebrity, wanting people to sit there and listen to you show off onstage. Music is for dancing, and when you're serving the music your career isn't about what other people make of you. I hear so many bits and pieces of the soul and r'n'b music I grew up and play, you're a band without a vocalist. Now I'm hearing some Rick James and Super Freak at the end. He was across the Niagara River for me.
