This video was unbelievably helpful to me as a first time painter- thank you so much for being so clear, really going through the steps and listing everything ❤️ I've just acquired kingdom death so I'll be painting along with you- hope there's more videos soon!!
i don't have enough adjectives to describe how beautiful this thing is. I thought the cracks were part of the model's texture until you got started, and then even after i watched you paint them, they still looked like they were always there. Also, before you added the cracks, i though the whole thing looked light, and then as you kept brightening the cracks, the whole thing got darker. I'm always amazed watching your videos and i learn something new from every one. On a side not, if you ever get bored doing painting videos, you should try your hand at some behind the scenes cinematography tutorials. it doesn't matter how long your video is, it is so pleasant to watch i'm always disappointed when it ends. You don't talk unnecessarily, you focus on the model and paint and not yourself talking, the camera is always in focus, your cuts are seamless and not jarring, the music you use adds tension and mood. Your art is more than just the painting, it's the whole experience of watching you create it. I don't know anything about art, but this is absolutely what i think art should be. Thank you.
Thank you so much Dan! I do very much regard each video as much a piece of art as the mini I'm actually painting so I really appreciate your kind comments regarding the production aspects :)
I have to agree. The "lack" of diversity with the color scheme in this particular serie really highlights your work with lights and shadows. And the subtle use of nuances. You keep on improving, which is quite unexpected considering your skills.
excellent, i painted this mini few months ago, and your version is quite dramatic. I love how you used the UHU to create the slime on the mouth, i will probably apply this technique when i have the occasion.
This was amazing. I have been looking at my own screaming antelope for several months waiting to be inspired, and I am! The way you did the glowing cracking on the body draws so much attention to a model that normally isn’t that eye catching. ( Unless someone looks at the under belly lol!) Thank you so much for these tutorials, if you are still working at this series, looking forward to your take on the watcher!!
I really enjoy your videos. Always very good painting tips, calm voice and amazing finished products when ur done. I even got a friend back into painting using your videos. We now got a full necromunda table with gangs and terrain painted together XD. Keep up the good work. :)
Love the work, sitting with the Antelope before me as I type this. Didn't know what to do with it, still don't, but now I know a lot more of what I want to do.
I really like this model and painting job, (personal opinion) much better than the White Lion. Well done! I don't own Kingdom Death: Monster, so I'll never paint this one. It still gives plenty of guidance for other miniatures. I really like the contrast of the fiery effect and the dark skintone.
Again, SOOOO good! More please! I just got my copy and am going to use these as my guides. I don’t think they’ll look as good but so far these are basically exactly how I want to paint mine. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much! I love the Bloodborne game (and soundtrack) so that's a huge compliment for me :) (Here's the album link on Spotify if you weren't aware: open.spotify.com/album/1sCRvOl9mclwED42jGULVn?si=ro-cUIPYRiqQ-OaF5aN9Fg ) :)
Hi there! I don't actually think I'm an especially advanced painter myself, and for this figure in particular I take a deceptively easy approach which you might find easier than it looks! :)
I love it! I went with one of the other paint schemes from the character art but I love the demonic look of this one - makes me wonder if I made the right choice ;) I especially love the desaturated tones you used for the mouth & teeth area. Super creepy.
Thanks man! I think the only right choice is the choice that realises your vision for the monster. (I'm sure not everyone will like the direction I took with this which is fine!) :)
Some scratches with a dremel to give a bit more depth to the crack skin would've been great ! But hey, you made a holy damn good job (as always) on this miniature !
We are going to have a painting competition this weekend in my area, called Mint Dragon, with your skill you could bring home a few trophies) The only thing it is in Moscow))
Spoiler Alert: you won't see a lot of bears or balalaikas around)) Though we have a park inside the city called Elk island, where elks roam free. We went there at night with a friend when we were about 20, it was a bit scary to go through the dark forest without lite (we were sneaking into secured location of unfinished building) and to suddenly hear breaking brunches right next to us. Good memories))) A lot of people visit us now, while our money is cheap, although i see much more older people. Just today I saw a huge group of French folks. I've seen many Germans, some American and Chinese folks almost every day)))
Great video as always! Really enjoy the KD stuff! My heart skipped a beat when you began to put white strokes over all your work.. But the end result speaks for itself! Bravo
I find your videos very relaxing to watch and listen to. Amazing work. Will you be showing us how to paint more of the miniatures from Kingdom Death Monster? :-)
I'm thoroughly impressed by the video production quality as well as your painting style. I recently grabbed a copy of KD:M, and the thought of having to play the game with unpainted miniatures just feels wrong, so I decided to get back into the hobby for the first time in decades. Inspiring stuff here. I have a question though: do you somewhere have something of an inventory list of things you would recommend as great to own and use when it comes to assembly and painting of your minis? Choosing between brands can be daunting and I'd love to know if there are specific tools that you think are essential for qol. Thanks!
Thank you so much! Regarding a "getting started" list, I'm actually thinking of creating an absolute-beginner's guide to painting in the not-too-distant future; until then the only thing I'd suggest now is to simply buy whatever individual colours you need for a specific project and build your paint collection up gradually (and don't be afraid to mix paint brands - each range has certain strengths and you'll probably also discover a personal preference for particular colours etc over time through experience) :)
I'd love a total beginner guide too ! Quick question about this : I see you're using an airbrush. It looks immensly useful to map out the lighting. How would one go about using a paint brush for this ? Does it even make sense ?
Brilliant as ever. You make it look so easy too. I struggle sometimes to get the right consistency for wet blending. How thin/thick do you make your paint?
Thank you Tim! I may vary the consistency a fair bit depending on what I'm painting, but here I went a little on the thinner side because I wanted the zenithal highlights to show through. It's hard to quantify I'm afraid but will come with experimentation and practice :)
I've seen this figure painted on several RU-vid videos and it has always ended up as a clichéd lump of horror from a teenager (lack of) imagination (and some of them are fairly good painters.) So thanks for showing what thought and good taste can being to a figure I had previously discounted as tacky and very unappealing. The figure is still not my thing but at least it's now down to personal taste ;)
Thanks a lot for that Rob! There are so many ways to interpret the KDM minis, and I'm sure my approach won't be to everyone's taste but I'm really glad you like it (despite your not liking the mini itself) :D
Gorgeous as usual... quick question... I suppose the top fur was a good candidate for some drybrushing... and I suppose you didnt do it because you like to have more control... Right?
Thanks mate! I did actually provide a dry brush of pure white in the "Prep 'n' Spray" stage to help sharpen the texture: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rut1SjfTty4.html Because of how thinly I applied the base colours I didn't feel it needed any further dry brushing after that but you sure could do if you want a little extra "pop" in the fur. I also wanted to maintain a slightly muted tone to allow the glowing cracks to better stand out :)
Fantastic. Your figure painting videos have inspired me to branch out from vehicle models. Do you use the Rosemary & Co brushes because you think they are superior to series 7, because they are better for certain aspects of painting, or because they offer better value?
Thanks a lot Matt! I certainly think the R&Co brushes offer better value compared to the W&N but I'm not sure if they're necessarily superior. I personally like them because they have a rather long and slender belly/bristles which suits my personal painting style. But I will often favour the slightly firmer W&N brushes for when I'm wet blending. :)
So no varnish to protect the paint? Is it because of the foilage and effects? Couldnt you apply that after the spray? Just curious But amazing amazing pair as always!! Still waiting on the how to prep your paints and brush care vid lol. I can never never get my paints to behave like yours or keep such fine tips on my brushes.
Thanks a lot! I do mention it briefly but didn't film it (because I prefer to spray outside) so it's easy to miss, but I did apply some Dulcote right before applying the sating varnish near the end: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rut1SjfTty4.htmlm4s :)
Ive never seen a mini and genuinely groaned and said that's disgusting! I mean this as a very high compliment... as the model could be easily turned into gore, but you kept it away from gore and made it creepier by keeping it more clean... AMAZING wet blending again, I really need to practice.. Any tips for practicing wet blending? besides just doing it HAHA
Thanks Gordon! You could use Nuln Oil I guess, although it's as little brownish. You could just use a good black - like Vallejo's for example, just thinned down enough to flow into the recesses. :)
Quick question: does the uhu glue resist over time as the saliva effect (while playing, etc) or is it more of a temporary effect just for the pictures? Thanks for your amazing work, hope you release the next kdm video soon!!!
Hi Gonzalo! I've not had a problem with the saliva effect coming off, but I do take care not to handle it when playing. I'll be painting the King's Man very soon... :)
Sorastro's Painting lol, really though these kingdom death videos especially are great, video quality and music fit perfectly and the minis look amazing!
How does one get their hands on these figures? all the KDM miniatures I've found available online look like a 13 year old boy's vision of anime-bdsm... but these figures are really beautiful...
Thank you triruns! I can't take full credit really as I just lifted the scheme from the illustration in the rule book, but I appreciate the compliment :D
Thanks Thanisis! It depends how thinly I spread the paint on the palette but the paint can dry up within an hour or two partly due to the hot light I film under :)
Thank you Thaxsar! I mostly use a Rosemary & Co Series 33 Size 2 brush, but you can see the details of what I'm using in each video in the video descriptions :)
This might be a really stupid question but, could one use black ink intended for a fountain pen? I have a few FW inks, but I don't have a black ink, however my girlfriend does calligraphy and has black ink for that. But I don't really have any models to test it on
Hi James! I really see no reason as to why it wouldn't be OK to use ink from a fountain pen. I would just thin it with a little water and have a go at applying it to the cracks to see how it looks :)
Ha.. I confess although I did take A-level Biology we didn't cover the digestive system of the Screaming Antelope! However, the lore does tell us that yes - the antelope has lost its mind :)
Another great painting... kingdom death has fantastic models but I HATE resin... but that's just me, I prefer lead compound models then pewter then plastic
Kingdom Death game miniatures are not resin but High Impact Polystyrene HIP plastic. GW makes their plastic miniatures from the same material. Most board game miniatures like CMON and Star Wars are made from different plastic.
Wildboy789789 the base game and expansions are plastic miniatures. The resin miniatures found on the website are “extras” in that they aren’t required to play, are for collectors of minis, etc.
Hello! А что вы добавили сверху на краску на 2:02? Полупрозрачная жидкость, как называется она и для чего нужна? What did you put on top of the paint at 2:02? Translucent liquid, what is it called and what is it for?
@@Sorastro Аа... у меня был такой вариант, что это замедлитель для краски)) Спасибо за ответ! Ah... I had this option, what is the retarder for the paint)) Thanks for the reply!
Hi David! No, I don't usually visit Reddit. As mentioned in the video I just tried to reproduce the look of the illustration from the antelope showdown page in the rulebook (as I assume many other painters have!) :)
Good stuff! Makes sense; that's where she drew her inspiration as well. Here's a photo of hers! (She resculpted the mouth and redid the horns to make them a little more imposing.) imgur.com/a/d5b7mHZ Keep up the good work!
Hi Juan! I think it helps if you don't use too much of the retarder - and mix some water in too. But yes - I usually have a hairdryer handy (whether I'm using retarder or not!) :)
Hi Jones! I'm not sure if you're asking about the lore of the game in general or the antelope specifically, but there's a wiki page with some basic info: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_Death:_Monster :)
...and here's the bit of lore for the Screaming Antelope: "There was once a fearsome monster that was trained by the Hand to be a steed for the Goblin. However, upon smelling its new master, the monster's mind shattered and it ran into the unknown, foaming at the mouth and biting the noses off the stone faced floor."[
