When I was a kid playing this for the first time I was having a really hard time with Xigbar. I kept dying and dying over and over again and one time I went into a drive and got anti form and beat him with it. Made me feel like a shonen anime character using their secret curse power, like Ichigo or Naruto. Maybe thats a little cringey but its one of my fondest video game memories.
I love how everyone had an awesome moment with anti-form that helped them beat a boss, but meanwhile I activate it on mr. "Dance water dance" and I just wanted to bang my head against a wall.
honestly one of my favorite parts about the form is that all sora voice clips are outright muted as you're in the form. It really helps add to the mystery factor of the form and gives a very ominous feeling. Like this is probably one of the only times sora uses darkness in a fight and it completely changes his personality. He's just fixated on fighting and nothing else. Pretty cool if you ask me.
The Scarlet Shepherd it’s cause he’s a heartless essentially in anti form and it’s caused by the slight bit of darkness left in him from when he turned into a shadow
Yeah, I always wanted the story of kh2 to acknowledge the different forms. Like after certain cutscenes where you get the forms, I wanted some explanation as to each form, especially anti and final.
I only recently learned, interestingly enough, that the Magnet spell deals "dark" type damage to enemies (the same element that a Midnight Anklet would resist, for example)
@@KristoKorps A little late lol, but in-game it's explained Valor, Wisdom, and Master forms are activated through harnessing his bonds with Goofy, Donald, and Mickey respectively. Final Form is only able to be activated after the Roxas fight and is a silver appearance like the nobodies, so it likely refers to Sora's newfound knowledge of Roxas in him and being able to tap into that strength which gives him ultimate mastery over the keyblades (Having the strength of two keyblade wielders in one body*). Anti Form happens likely because Sora has no control over his inner darkness like say, Riku. And it's a big reason why he fails to become a Keyblade Master while Riku succeeds. Sora has yet to confront his inner darkness. *Of course, after KH2, Ventus makes that concept a little weirder but, the sentiment is the same.
shadowdarkria I figured anti form was a good thing to have when I first played KH2, it’s unbelievably fun to play and when you can learn to avoid attacks, it doesn’t matter if you take more damage.
It's my favorite as well, but I've always been one to like speed over power and anti-Sora is the fastest form in the game. It's honestly the best form for speed runs in my opinion.
I never really got used to Sora's anti form so I usually get hit whenever I'm doing a combo. Other than that, if i attempted to learn how to use it, it'd be my favorite form. The attacks are epic and fast.
I’m weird because back when I played the original KH2 this was my favorite form. I got it one time, ruined a boss, and never knew how to trigger it again. So thank you for this handy guide on abusing my favorite mechanic. Well not you, person I replied to. That last sentence was aimed at Bizkit.
About the only other thing I'd mention is how your antipoints get refunded to you if you die in battle after getting antiform. Since everything in the game reverts to the last time you zoned into a room, your anti points are reverted too. So people tend to get stuck in the tough fights and wonder why they get antiform 10 times in a row. Well it's cause that 5 point reduction for going anti didn't actually stick.
+Tsmith0142 I didn't figure that was worth mentioning because it's usually obvious to people who pay attention, since people who do menus before fights tend to have to do them over if they die and Continue, implying that everything gets "reset".
Bizkit047 other cons that were not mentioned was that anti can't gain experience (for Sora) you said no healing but you also can pick up mp drive and munny but not hp orbs and speaking of orbs drive orbs drain Anti's remaining from gauge instead of increase it
I had the guidebook for this game as a kid and remember reading about all the Limit forms. When I got to Anti-Form and saw the words "The more you use Forms, the higher your chance of receiving Anti-Form becomes", I naturally only reserved Forms for Boss Fights and nothing else.

For me, anti form was a blessing for me before I got final form. And I was somewhat a pro at using anti form. Now I have more info on anti form. Thanks m8 and my your heart be your guiding key
I have to ask, for curiosity's sake; In the cutscene where Sora first receives his Drive Forms early in the game, does him going Valor Form in the cutscene count towards the Antipoint total?
Bizkit, I knew most of this stuff in the video, but your videos are always so enjoyable to watch. It's great to see a KH fan so dedicated to the series, and even KH2 specifically. Keep posting videos man! You are also my favorite speed runner.
I was always annoyed by anti-form because it also punished players like me who rarely if ever used Drive Forms. I get they needed balance them but it was never a good way to do that imho.

Juan Pimentel it pretty much is (spoiler if you didn't play the first game) sora releases his heart with rikus keyblade to put kairis heart back with her as their hearts were the same at the time, and sora gets turned into a shadow. After that he gets turned back, but the heartless form still lingered within. Because of soras new clothes' abilities (Valor, Limit, Wisdom, Master, and Final form) the heartless form now has a way to release itself once again, but sora has control as the form is just coming from the magic imbued in the clothes. so to shorten that it is is heartless form
I had no idea. I was wondering why I kept getting Anti form. It got to a point where I thought the game was glitched because I also thought that Anti form was a form you can choose from like all the other forms. I literally only used my forms so I could level them throughout the game. I never relied on my forms to win battles... Actually only on those organization fights in the Absent Silhouettes. But thank you! I don’t play games often but this game is really fun. Your video was very informational :)
Well... this explains a lot. I played this when a friend of mine brought it over, and the file was during Beast's world.... let's just say Xaldin was near impossible with the Anti-Form. If that wasn't bad enough, I got saved by Mickey 5 times in that attempt and still lost.
“No abusing drive forms, or you might go anti form” Except by the end of the game valor form is nigh useless compared to just plain ol’ sora. And wisdom form lost it’s punch the moment master was unlocked. Which Master was useless the moment Final was unlocked. Which prevents going Anti Form, and also lowers the chance from then on. Nifty.
find it funny that every other kingdom hearts character gets completely slaughtered in the plot if they try to use the power of darkness but sora can just do it whenever he feels like it
Literally so damn cool, but at what cost? I genuinely love how it comes outta nowhere in the game without warning, like not even the fairies at the beginning give a heads-up to foreshadow (pun intended) its appearance. Like Sora was some kinda first-time alpha tester of Drive Mode. It was such a unique experience for so many first-time KH2 playthroughs. That said, I do agree and wish it had its own file or observations page in Jiminy Cricket's Journal or something, if just to acknowledge its existence. A little sad it wasn't more plot-relevant if it truly ties in with the near-end climax of KH1.
The attacks depend on what button you press (there is a attack you do with square in middle of combo) and it also depends on your position. If there are multiple enemies around you the antiform will for example use a finisher that hits as a AoE etc.
-Damage output is not too bad **Flashbacks of me doing literally zero damage to The Experiment in Christmas Town via Anti-Form** Maybe if you have a ridiculous amount of strength... but until then, Anti-Form doesn’t have a damage floor, so you can potentially deal a bit fat 0 damage if you’re not high leveled enough, depending on the boss. Bosses like Xigbar might have low enough defense that Anti-Form would still work, but armored bosses would probably just not even feel it. The parry frames are nice though, and if you can deal damage, it will hurt.
0:43 Yeah that one tidbit is easily the worst about Anti form (drive gauge not the worthless party members) Overall I think it's a cool thing they didn't tell you a lot about Anti form. It was covered in mystery, and when you found the perks it felt really good.
Anti form is really fun to use, and it's actually helped in critical mode take down bosses like shan yu, oogie boogie (because of fast damage in little time), and even late game bosses like xigbar. It felt so satisfying to take down data demyx in anti form when I got switched from wisdom.
Wish anti form was not so easy to damage and instead have been treated as a secret rare transformation. not being able to use items or magic, but as a counter to that having more health and deal more damage.
The organization XIII point is so true lol. The anti form usually happens to me when I face the berserk guy near the end in the World That Never Was or the guy where you can also first trigger Final Form. Sorry I don’t remember their names lol.
Anti form doesn't heal Sora with each strike not like limit form limit attack & chicken little since those two have an HP gain attack to it as you strike a foe.
@@keybladewar22 really? That’s strange. Each time I took that form my heal recovered rapidly and by the time I left it, I was normally back to full health.
@@ShadowSuperWolf I am positive that anti form can not give Sora health back as he strikes because that would be pointless to call it a form that punishes the player for only relying on drive forms if you are going to get hp back as you attack. You can't pick up health orbs or go to the pause menu even if you are out of the battle but instead will just show what you can't do in Antiform when you pause the game. Only time you will restore health is by going into any form which automatically gives Sora all his health back. When you revert Sora does not regain his HP back unless Donald happen to heal you after you returned back to base Sora is probably why you were at full health as Sora reverted but I can guarantee he can't be healed in that form since you lose access to your allies & can't pickup hp orbs. Now limit form give Sora HP back when ever his limit attacks land since limit form has the HP gain ability & chicken little has a built-in HP gain letting Sora attacks restore his HP with every strike. So Anti Form is a form that punishes the player & makes the player really be on edge while in that form with no help except having a decent parry window for deflecting back projectiles or just parry in general.
I actually kinda started to enjoy anti form when i used it enough and I was pretty fond of high damage but low defense so it’s kinda like a glass cannon but I like using it even if it’s a punishment
Interesting watch, but I think the officially strategy guide mentioned the point system lightly for anti form way back when this game dropped in 2005, obviously it didn't mention half the things you did but I'm pretty sure the points were brought up.
In my first KHII playthrough, I completely leveled each form and I never went into anti-form. I was so surprised and confused on my next playthrough when I started leveling the forms. Also was the surprised when Mickey would suddenly showup when I died on some boss fights.
I always thought Limit form added MORE than the other drives, while Master added more than that I just knew that Limit is best used when you're by yourself
It's kind of a bullshit punishment in my case. I don't "abuse" Drive Forms, but I do level grind them just for the growth ability, but the game still thinks I'm being a cheap-ass so I get Anti-Form'd.
TacoKhan they did it because it would be abuse of what they put in the game. kind of like shotguns in any fps. theyre overpowered as hell, but have lack of range to compensate (such as with real life as well)
Actually this is a genius design choice, You may not get it, but it's called balance, if players were allowed to go into the forms they want all the time then that would just make Sora OP, there'd be nothing stopping players from cheesing through a lot of the game, especially casual players. If a Platinum game had a a form where You gained extra damage output, recovered all health + magic, it allowed for specific strategies to work, and on top of all that if that had no negative consequence to spamming it then the game would have a broken mechanic. A "Competent" designer balances their game, and punishes players who abuse a system that would easily be broken if they had no such negative consequence in place. So no, this is much more competent design wise.
Clone Loli Platinum games has done something like this where they let you abuse something Metal Gear rising ,Wig B ((gives you infinite energy/Ripper mode which basically makes all enemies go down in a few hits)) and then there's the fox blade which one shots all enemies ((excepts bosses) combine those with the white armor ((gives you basically ten Hps items)) And then. Combine all of those together and basically become jesus
Agent Tex See now that sounds OP as fuck, I'm personally not a fan of making fights free to those who don't care enough to learn the games mechanics and what You described kind of sounds like it was made for those that are bad at the game... I miss a lot of the difficulty games had, it's still in a lot of games but too many of them allow You to just cheese Your way to victory. KH2 is no exception when it comes to the lower difficulties and KH1.5 gave beginner mode players so much shit that makes them over-powered...
I wish Anti-form had abilities like square dash/teleport, drain enemies health bar or become flat on the floor to avoid attacks or go underground (which is a puddle of darkness) and attack them from behind And some dark magic attacks Dark Blast (one hand attack) Spikes coming from the ground And he's reaction commands could be him holding a giant ball of darkness above he's head, slamming it down to the ground
Obviously I’m late but another huge con that not many talk about is the long drawn out attack animations that you can’t cancel out of (Nomura said this was intentional). This fucks with you heavy against organisation fights especially ones the revenge counter is reached
I'm going through kh2 critical mode for the first time and got to the Demyx fight. I was low on health and Auto Valor came up and I got Anti Form o.o I was so mad... but I actually ended up doing tons of damage to him, got him to 1 HP! Then reverted back to Sora and finished the fight. What a turnaround. I love kh2. :) I wonder why people complain about that fight so much?
I thought this happened because of what happened to his heart in the first game. That being the cause of him going into anti form because it's his heartless form

I know this video is old so I'm probably not going to get an answer. You can't get anti-form outside of battle, but does the anti-form counter increase outside of battle, or is that locked to combat as well?
I've always wanted to play KH2 mainly using Anti-form as my main form. Call me dumb, but I've always loved how cool he looks and when teh game first came out I'd pretend they were sending me into a "Hulk rage" sort of state. UNLEASH THE BEAST
Actually, an extra thing about Anti-Form is that you don't gain EXP while in Anti-Form, so while it is fun to go ham on enemies in Anti-Form (which I did. A lot. Mostly while grinding to unlock Final Form with Two Become One.), it's kinda pointless.
Wow, when I played as a kiddo, I always thought that the anti-form was legit the strongest form before Final form. Yes, I was excited to get Anti. No, I've never played the harder difficulties. Lol
The very first time I got Anti Form, (boss fight in Beast's Castle), he pretty much melted the boss. I don't think even Valor Form at that point could pull off the same damage output. Definitely godly in early-game. Cut forward to much later, Anti-Form becomes a big liability very quickly. Even not counting the fact that healing is non-existent, faster boss fights, and fighting multiple enemies becomes a chore.
I would argue to say Anti Form is a big liability regardless of what point in the game if on Crit, especially low level/LV1. On other difficulties it's alright early game though.
The only reason why I think Anti-form is a liability is because Sora himself is a heavily Light-oriented character. That's the only thing that makes sense to me.
I remember the first time i got this I was in timeless river and tried using Valor form on the Building fire and was like “this is what valor form looks like in this world”
I thought you could automatically go into Anti-Form by getting hit by an enemy/being close enough to an enemy right as you go into a Drive Form? You can even see it in almost every transformation in the video.
I was always sure the points were shown in the menu where you could check the different forms levels. I remember it very clearly on ps2, but maybe it didnt show it in the mixes ?
