If you mean "gypsy", yeah they are actually called the Roma or Romani. The term is derived from the term "gypped", which basically means being robbed. So yeah... Having said that, Sora's clothing does seem to fit with Roma culture in this setting.

Honestly Frollo had no chance against Quasi in an even fight. What is he gonna do? Try and punch Quasi? Even in the original movie he used sneak attack in an attempt to kill him, which he could counter easily despite that

SIKU Jacob I'm not sure beating up a old man who was a priest in the book would be a very popular idea. Maybe they could've done something poetic. "What makes a monster and what makes a man" thing with frollo turning into a demon and then fight him would be a better idea

Saying this now, I have been waiting for a Hunchback of Notre Dame world in this series. I know it can't be easy since this is known as a pretty dark Disney film, but this version is seriously tame compared to other adaptations of this story, including the original.

Now I wonder if they could ever revisit this world in a future game with a new story (hopefully disconnected from the other time they tried to follow up on Disney's take on Hunchback - shudder). Maybe Frollo could reappear via Heartless like Scar in KH2, given how they managed to make a pretty good story combining KH lore with Toy Story of all things for KH3 I think they could do the same for Hunchback if they play their cards right. Maybe they could even have an explanation for the Gargoyles actually being alive rather than just part of Quasi's imagination in the KH universe?

It’s very much a symptom of the plot of the movie being abbreviated. Like how when Sora helps Esmeralda escape, Frollo growls and glares, but Phoebus smiles and nods. Like that’s their character development on fast forward.

Funny thing that Corey Burton was also in the original film as the voice of one of the soldiers (the one with the bushy brown mustache) and Haley Joel Osment was also the voice of Zephyr, Phoebus and Esmeralda's son from the sequel.

It makes me happy that in the Kingdom Hearts world, The Hunchback of Notre Dame world gets recognition, I'm just disappointed how some lines seem flat, Esmeralda introduced herself a gypsy, and no Clopin (shame). I always felt like in the Kingdom Hearts world, Frollo would be a formidable antagonist with power to control the heartless. If this got touched up better I'd love it that much more, but for now I'm just content it got some recognition.

If Embracer Group does a remake of all five of the Legacy of Kain games, I hope Corey Burton will take over as the voice of the Elder God, William the Just, And Mortanius. While Gregg Berger will return to voice Turel like he did in Spyro reignited trilogy for his returning role as Ripto. And I don’t know if Anna Gunn will return to voice Ariel, Or her daughter will voice her.

Corey does a remarkably good job emulating Tony Jay, that is not an easy voice to imitate and he has that old, delicate and clinical tone of voice down. Like the way his voice rises in “I’ve never seen you before”, or the growl when he says “g*psies” in his line at 1:15

They probably did that so Sora could later reference this game in KH3 as he says “Oh yeah! You were at the cathedral!” when Vanitas appears in Monstropolis. Of course, Donald and Goofy are absolutely clueless when Sora mentions this since they weren’t there, though they knew who Vanitas was but they didn’t know it was Vanitas until he introduced himself.

Hunchback is just such an awkward movie to include in KH, if you ask me. I’m glad it wasn’t in a high-profile entry (Donald and Goofy would’ve made everything even more awkward), but still, it hurts to watch. It’s like this world took the baseline of Hunchback’s themes to make them work in this setting and it just doesn’t work. Esmeralda randomly introducing herself as a gypsy for no reason (even ignoring the fact that it’s usually regarded as a slur now), Frollo relying on the goofy and colorful Dream Eaters to enact his genocide, Frollo thinking Sora is Romani (gotta get the fact that he’s racist out of the way), and who can forget that once tense and emotional scene now being bombarded with “Way to go, Quasi!” It’s like if those stupid gargoyles took over the entire movie. I’m glad the bandage was ripped off but I really hope KH doesn’t attempt to take on franchises like Hunchback again.

I kind of agree. Earlier games in the series did a much better job of weaving the Disney movie story with the Kingdom Hearts lore. But later games like this one and especially KH3 just play out entire scenes from the movies but with Sora going "Woahhh!" Every now and then. Its so obvious that SE are caring less and less about the Disney worlds in these games, it feels like they're just trying to speed through them so they can get to their own original worlds.

@@Flip_91FTW No, no. Don’t get me twisted. This isn’t a statement of “SE doesn’t care anymore” or “Disney worlds are lazy now” I just think Hunchback in general wouldn’t work in KH. They could’ve done this in KH1 or 2 and it would’ve been just as awkward and messy, probably worse since you’d have Goofy and Donald there. Hunchback is literally about a zealot trying to enact ethnic cleansing, it literally opens with said zealot nearly drowning a baby. Translating themes of racism, zealotry and genocide into a series like KH was always going to go badly.

@@HoneyBun44 all three of the gargoyles have their actors from the films. Everyone else is a soundalike. The names of Quasimodo and Esmerelda's voice actors escapes me, but Judge Claude Frollo is played here by Corey Burton, and Phoebus by Phil Lamarr.

@@grantmortensonva Well, while Hugo and Victor’s VAs reprise their roles in this game, Laverne’s voice is also a soundalike, as her voice actress Mary Wickes died of complications from hip surgery and Jane Withers had to fill in for Laverne’s remaining dialogue in the movie (and would later voice all of Laverne’s dialogue in the sequel and CD-ROM games). In this game, however, she’s voiced by Pat Lentz.
