Honestly I never gave "We shall Go together" much thought before.... But what a loaded gun of a line. Xemnas knows he will never have Kingdom Hearts, ergo his heart at this point. He's given up on trying. Just a look at the environment of the Final battle... It's just a white void. He know he has no way of getting out of there. It's the literal end of the line. He has accepted his fate, but refuses to go down without Sora and Riku. They prevented him from achieving his goal of only wanting a heart. He just wanted to be whole again. His final wish is revenge. The thing is, he doesn't get a choice in accepting his fate. He is a nobody, he has no heart, no emotion, therefore he has no way of rejecting or accepting his fate. He has no care, because he cannot care. The real Ironic Kicker? He does have a heart.
The sad thing is that this gave him a great motive and you could feel bad for him as well but then DDD came along and rewrote his entire character by making him a boring darkness hungry dumbass who lied to his fellow organization so he could create 13 darknesses/ Xehanorts / Whatevers. I'll never get over DDD (and KH3)'s horrible writing.

The fight with Xemnas in KH2 was one of the most satisfying final bosses EVER. Not the hardest, but it was very cinematic and had a ton of atmosphere. The music just boosted the atmosphere to euphoric levels, while the gameplay with those reaction commands made the fighting so realistic. And Xemnas's huge variety of one-liners made the battle it self FEEL so much more epic. And what solidified this fight was that climatic one-liner: "there's no such thing as light... ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha" followed up by a brutal beat-down. My ONLY complaint would be... why couldn't we fight all of those Nobodies at the end? THAT would have been the icing on an already well baked cake.

In my 20s, FINALLY played this 2 years ago, and this whole final boss sequence blew me the HELL away, to the tune of how AWESOME things were as a kid. A gift to still have moments like those!!!!!
Someone needs to make a GIF of the "trapped in darkness surrounded by 7,000,000 laser beams while deflecting every single one of them by spamming X and triangle" event.
I just love the feeling of progression you get through the game. Towards the beginning, when Sora first wakes up, you're overwhelmed by a group of relatively weak nobodies and have to be saved by Mickey. Towards the middle, you take down an entire army of 1000+ heartless (I say + because of the leadup where you team up with the FF characters), and though you win and destroy all of them, Sora's has to take a moment to catch his breath, because it was monumental and exhausting. By the end, Xemnas is throwing skyscrapers at Sora, and you nonchalantly cut them down on the way to his dragon thing, then jump off the rubble to get to the reactors.

But yes, amusement park ride 3-4 magic sora is much stronger than that. are you going to pull some kind of brainlet logic and mention his thematic based abilities which literally have no gameplay aspects? "Hurr durr this sora travel back into hearts he much stronker". Or maybe its because this one "beat" the X squad. There literally shouldnt be any debate on this unless your head is hollow.

Xemnas has an absolutely horrifying one-liner in this fight that doesn't even play in some of the ports of this game. This dude is the master of nothingness itself and, in a void containing only Sora, Riku, and himself, he looks them dead in the face and says "There's no such thing as light." and the world goes black around them. I can't think of many more terrifying concepts for a character to face.
“Xemnas…There is more to a heart than anger and hate, it’s full of all kinds of emotions…Don’t you remember?” “Unfortunately…I don’t”. (Man, those words will never get old for me, goosebumps every time. Just the genuine question from Sora and the clear sadness Xemnas has on his face when he answers. Out of all the villains I have battled in KH or any game franchise, Xemnas will always be my favourite, he’s the only version of Xehanort that I actually felt a connection with and therefore mixed feelings when I finally took him down)
Facts, and I feel even more bad for him in KH3 when at the end, he regrets what he did to his “companions” as he called them. About how he felt lonely after all was said and done, and then after he lowkey commended Sora and co. for their “incredible strength” in dealing with the downsides of having a heart and emotions. Truly a legendary character for me! He’s my favorite version of Xehanort too. His voice actor really helps make him pop, also.
I love that the music for the final phase isn't super climactic and triumphant, but rather this melancholy rendition of the fight before. There's less action than in the Xemnas fights before, and I feel like contrasting the music like that is GENIUS
The decision to slow the song all the way down for the final phase is actually genius. Most people would expect the last phase to be the first, the second to be the last, and the first to be second, but the way it’s done is perfect.
It just oozes with this feeling desperate emptiness. You’re not even somewhere that could be considered real, just some void of spiraling shapes. No time to think about what to do next or whats gonna happen when this is over, just a frantic fight against a bitter husk making one last desperate assault out of vengeance

Reading how many people love this fight, the music, and the visual design honestly makes me emotional. The fact that we can all bond over our mutual love for this game and bask in the nostalgia makes my inner child happy.
I got so mad after finding out about that and it wasn't just mash triangle when 99% of this game's QTEs was just pressing triangle. And i had him on only a sliver of hp when i got to that segment of the fight.
Xehanort stole Terra's body so he could live on. Later on, Xehanort began to steal Ansem the Wise's research, claiming he was Ansem himself. And when Xehanort became a heartless, his Nobody took the name of Ansem, later changing his name by switching up the letters and placing the trademark "X" into his name. X emAns. So Xemnas, in a way, IS Terra.

Man, Xemnas really felt like a tragic villain in 2. Before all the Xehanort vessel shenanigans that DDD introduced, you could really feel for him and the other Nobodies. He didn't wanna plunge the world's into darkness, he just wanted to become whole and regain a heart. The entire last phase feels like a desperate attempt from him to prove his existence, like he accepts his fate of disappearing, but wants to leave a mark on the world by destroying Sora and Riku. Honestly speaking I really do feel like if you take the first 3 games as their own trilogy, Xemnas is the perfect villain to cap them off on. Obviously Nomura had more in mind than the first 3 entries, but I'd be lying if I said Xemnas wasn't the perfect conclusion to everything that had been building up to that point
Agree, even though his death in KH3 still hit hard. His whole speech about prefering not to have a heart because he didn't want to suffer was extremely sad.
2:19 I still love that they would reuse part of this melody for Terra's theme. Brilliant since this is the form of Xehanort closest to Terra without outright being his possessed body. When you think about it, his constant proclamations of the power of anger, hate and rage are fitting since some of Terra's most prominent moments in Birth By Sleep were fueled by such hostile emotions. Even his lust for the power of Kingdom Hearts has very slight similarities to Terra who desired power though his ultimate goal was to protect his friends. Meanwhile Xemnas was too heartless to see his fellow Organization members as anything more than pawns... Then again in Kingdom Hearts III, Xemnas dies regretting the mistreatment of his allies and how lonely their absence makes him feel so he may be even more like Terra than we thought.
this is a very interesting comment and i think everyone can agree that at this point, xemnas is the only xehanort form to resemble terra, which is ironic cause terranort is all xehanort with only his body resembling terra. xemnas, feel nothing but anger and hate, which something terra felt in his last moments fighting xehanort. i dont really think the original xehanort has that much rage and anger, only twisted delusion and insanity. that and xemnas always trying to find ventus and often speaking to aqua's armor, plus the loneliness he felt in kh3, just prove that xemnas is the most similar to terra
Xemnas is a blend of Xehanort and Terra, like how Roxas is a blend of Ven and Sora. He's mostly Xehanort, but there's some Terra in there too, creating a unique consciousness that's not quite Xehanort.
Anger isn't an inherently negative emotion - one can be angry at injustice or angry at an innocent coming to harm. The trick is not to be consumed by anger. Rage is just a twist on that. Hate is more complicated. While we can say hating evil things is probably good, the problem with hate is the mindless adherence it brings, and that if you define something as worthy of hating, you have to be damned sure it IS, as if it IS NOT, you've just given yourself license to be evil to a thing that is not evil. Hate clouds judgements and makes it easy to be vile. Even if a thing is evil, one should not be consumed by hatred for it. The new remaster versions of these songs are so good, but the originals will always have a special place in my heart. This series has come a looong ways.
absolutely loved this boss as a kid from the start when you enter the door and start running through the distorted world with xemnas literally flinging buildings at you. And then sora beasting his way slicing through them like an absolute badass. It got me so hyped up for the whole fight.
@@psyiax3238 I spent my first time fighting this guy mostly just trying to survive. He's downright brutal if you don't have Dodge Roll (which you *can't* in the original version of the game...), and he's easily able to keep up with Sora and Riku when they're both at their best and armed with Keyblades.

It's sadden that KH3 got rid of Reaction commands, Final Fantasy Characters, and proper story pacing....KH2 will forever be the best Kingdom Hearts Game along with BBS and 1. Greatest video game I played.
Wholeheartedly agree. Only reason I can explain the drop in quality is the Osaka team taking a lead in the gameplay design and story(they didn’t learn after BBS and DDD...?) and Nomura still sour about FFXIII Versus not coming to fruition

I loved everything about this fight. In fact, I think it might be my favorite RPG battle of all time. The frantic pace of the actual combat, the sweat that it took to beat, the *set-piece* battle segment change-ups that fit in perfectly (the *surrounded with lasers have to deflect them faster then light speed* one being a favorite), and the cut scene segment at the end that not only fit in and made perfect since...but that wonderful touch at the end where the designers let you kill Xemnas yourself. That part sent me over the top. Some may have thought that part patronizing ("After all that awesomeness, I only get to do a single keyblade strike to kill him? Lame!"), but I loved that unlike so many other story- and cut scene-heavy games, the designers showed respect for the player by letting us have the final blow. In fact, I look at it as the designers including us *in* that cutscene from before, similar to the end of Earth Bound where Paula asks the player for help directly with killing the boss. Maybe they weren't thinking of it in this way, but it sure feels that way to me. Like the designers were saying "Yes, Sora is a complete badass now and may be powerful enough to kill Xemnas on his own now, but he could never have gotten here without *your* help. You're both part of a team, each requiring the other, and so although Sora will do a bunch of really cool stuff to open him up, we're letting you and Sora take him out together". Sends chills up my spine just to think about it.
So at my school, I saw that the guy behind me was reading the Kingdom Hearts manga. I asked him if he plays the games and he said yes. Faith in humanity restored.
The same thing happened to me I read two mangas of kingdom hearts 2 (I wasn't a fan of it I just picked it up cause I was intrested) but now kingdom hearts is one of my favorite game series of all time and I'm a huge fan of roxas and I'm pre ordering 2.5 and played dream drop distance.

Due to the superior hardware capabilities of the next gen systems allowing for more A.I. on-screen, I'm looking forward to all of the keyblade users squaring off against the entirety of Organization XII with Xehanort.

Many songs may make.you feel the same way. But this one might actually make you say it out loud in the deepest voice you can pull of😂. I know I do at least.
Hate is never supreme; anger is powerful, but not all anger is evil, either. The important thing is to control it rather than letting it control you. Anger at injustice or anger at that which causes harm so you can protect those who would otherwise suffer from it aren't evil. That is, anger based on love or hope isn't something to run from, as long as one remembers to control it instead of be controlled by it, and only at need.
I like how the final Xemnas music not an intense finale, but rather captures the feeling of tragedy as all the pain and destruction Xehanort has caused is coming out in the final struggle.
Here's an interesting contrast between 1 and 2: In 1, "Ansem" Seeker of Darkness starts out by taking on the trio himself with his heartless stand, when that doesn't work, he stalls for time summoning the titan heartless Darkside, then separates Sora from his friends. When even that fails, he pulls out all the stops by merging with the battleship sized heartless for the final showdown. In 2: Xemnas initializes his assault with his own battleship-style mechanical nobody dragon, but when that's destroyed, it's just Riku, Sora, and no-one, surrounded by a room of void, that's all.
+Nepgear “Michael” Planeptune I had a lot of trouble with him just to beat the game on proud mode since on the 2.5 remix he is bugged and the beginning part where you spam triangle to dodge a series of attacks doesn't always work...so frustrating
Is it just me or was Xemnas way cooler than Ansem, Seeker of Darkness? Ansem was just kinda like "BLEH I'M EVIL DARKNESS IS THE HEARTS DARKNESS LIGHTNESS THE DARK HEARTNESS", and to be fair Xemnas was too, but Xemnas was more interesting because he had this totally blank facade that he didn't care about anything and he had no emotions. He had more dimension to him by being flat than Ansem did, because he deviated from the traditional bad guy norm of being super emotional and became all distant and dramatic and disturbed instead. Well, I thought it was cool anyways. Good song.
+Rasamatazz It's because Ansem, Seeker of Darkness (Heartless of Xehanort) inherited the conflicting heart of both Terra and Xehanort that turned dark when the amnesiac Terranort (the Xehanort that claims the name 'Ansem') was corrupted with darkness, splitting himself into a Heartless and Nobody. This Heartless (Ansem) possesses the darkened heart of Terranort, thus inheriting the emotional traits, powers (such as the Guardian), evil purposes and will of the original Xehanort, to obtain Kingdom Hearts. Xemnas on the other hand is literally the empty husk of Terra, whose heart has been won over by Master Xehanort. How Xemnas managed to gain new powers such as summoning Ethereal Blades out of his palms is still a mystery to me, but Xemnas often comes to visit the Chamber of Repose to see his "old friend" (Aqua), gaining memories of her and what he was like when he was still Terra by conversing with the armor of Aqua. He inherited no emotions, only memories that drive him. Which is why Xemnas is the 'no-bullshit' variant of Ansem, Seeker of Darkness.
+Reactor Ray During the internal fight against Master Xehanort to regain control of his body, Terra's heart lost and his will's forced to retreat to his Keyblade Armor (which would later be known as the Lingering Will). That means Terra hasn't lost his heart and will, sustaining his existence by using the Keyblade Armor as his vessel (this may have to do with his control over Darkness as well, being able to use a vessel). After Master Xehanort won Terra's body, he replaced Terra's heart with his own, completely turning Terra's body to be under his own control (thus 'Terranort', possessing some traits the original Xehanort had). Losing his memories after the fight with Master Aqua, 'Xehanort' worked with Ansem the Wise in their research to learn more about hearts, but he delved too deep in darkness, became obsessed with Ansem's research, and was split into two: Ansem, Seeker of Darkness (Xehanort's corrupted heart in physical form) Xemnas (Terra's body, possessing a fragment of Xehanort's will)

When I was a kid, I just assumed you needed a certain amount of HP at that point. I didn't figure out that I was supposed to press X as well until I replayed it years later.
4:57 dude, those 10 seconds of violin (?) Are so damn powerful to me, it conveys me of melancholy and sadness, yet I feel complete like I'm letting my inner darkness in and with that even if it's sad it'd making me whole, bringing ballance to my broken and confused heart. There are very few songs capable of that, only this one and Guts theme from berserk 97 comes to mind honestly
Not Bloodborne, not FF16, not Elden Ring, not a single Action RPG released before or after KH2 has EVER surpassed the absolute insanity that is this boss fight
Although the difficulty of the boss fight was a little mediocre, the progression was freaking brilliant. Initially you think the fight is over, but then things start heating up when you're separated from your friends. Its builds up the intensity, the music is chaotic, and you fly through space as you fight this big ugly monster. And then, at the climax, you fight Xemnas man to man. No big fancy weapons, no final forms, no epic flying, and no allies (except Riku I guess). Had it not been for Yoko Shimomura's brilliant composition, this fight would have been lackluster. Instead, it's one of my favorites of all time.
Personally I loved the fact that the final fight was a normal ground fight with only a couple of fitting gimmicks - WAY better than awkwardly flying around in the first game’s final fight
The last movement quotes “Forze del male”, changing the last note to give it a degree of finality. It happens in the choir part after the key change in the middle.
The hype surrounding this fight I don’t think can ever match up, not even kh3’s final boss in both remind and the base game can. You can argue yes too many phases sure, but that’s what made the final phase that much cooler. Not to mention the music is the icing on the cake 👌
Far more epic than the final battle of KH3. I went into this thinking this was the end of the entire series while KH3 was one big trailer for KH4 or whatever the spinoffs are going to be.
@@nicogalax the only thing kingdom hearts three had going for it was graphics. as far as i am concerned kingdom hearts 2 is where it ended. a well fought victory for our heros that ended with sora accomplishing everything he had set out to do from the beginning. he reunited with both kairi and riku and returned to the islands together with them. THE END.
This music is such a masterpiece I can't even fathom the words to describe how wonderful everything is and how well arranged this all is, Yoko Shimomura (an incredible lady as I had the chance to meet her a few years ago in Paris) truly is a Maestro
all KH2 needed to really make the game even better would be a 1000 nobody fight after fighting Xemnas. imagine you have one round with all heartless in the mid-game then in the end game another battle with only nobodies. and have the background slowly go from pure white to black as shadowy tendrils appear to go in and out of the white area in a 3d way you see as you move around. God i love this series so much, so many fun memories and the story is great once you sit down and go through it. the combat in KH2 is still one of the most satisfying entries in the series. the music was top tier and for a ps2 game it was one that blew my child mind and still gives me endless joy as an adult.
From all KH villains, Mansex was the most blatant Star Wars reference. Everything he does and says just screams sith. Down to fighting with red lightsabers and most of his powers being either telekinetic or electric in nature.
"If light and darkness are eternal, surely we nothings are the same! Eternal! *bad ass evil villain laugh* No more eternal than that radiance of yours".... Xemnas has the perfect voice and is a such a bad ass
The melodic piano along with the organ really makes this the musical version of a sad, rainy afternoon in those calmer moments of the song. Truly a good example of musical emptiness. One of my favorite arrangements by Ms. Shimomura for sure
Kingdom Hearts II is still the best in the series for me. And part of that is the satisfying final boss battle/theme that really felt like it was the true final battle. There is true finality felt from this battle. Had the series ended here I would have been satisfied.
I love this theme so much I listen to kingdom hearts music all the time this music is beautiful I cant explain it or put this into words but it does something for me. Now I must go time to play Kingdom Hearts Xemnas I will put an end to your evil ways!
