So in short, Xehanort, Xehanort, Xehanort again, Some guy that's Half Xehanort, and I think maybe another Xehanort, as well as a bunch more including Xehanort's Heartless and Nobody, are going to battle with Sora, Sora's Nobody, Sora's Nobody's Nobody, Sora's Nobody's Body, and Sora's Nobody's Nobody's Body. In other words 13 Xehanort's versus 7 Sora's. Let's go.
Xehanort Xehanort Xehanort? Sora's Nobody's Nobody, Sora's Nobody's Body, and Sora's Nobody's Nobody's Body? I know the series but who are the people you are referring to?
@@leebonakiss9379 I've played 1 and 2 atleast 3 times over, since they were on the PS2. I never got a chance to play the other 129 spin-offs/sub games since they were spread over 14 other consoles. As hyped as I am at a KH3 I know 90% of relevant information is hidden in those.
I've watched many KH story summaries, and they typically fall into either the "Here's the entire story as fast possible" or "Here's a detailed explanation, but it's gonna take a bit of time". Of all the longer story summaries, I genuinely think this one may be the best one yet made. Excellent work!
No wonder it took 13 years for KH3. It takes that long to understand the plot... I know right?? Why did Disney and square have to make a story intended for kids so insanely complex? I bairly can follow this as an adult...my nephew watched this with me and his response was .."huh"..."ow my head.." geez uncle v that was confusing.."

Just playing the games isn't enough, the challenging thing is remembering all of the tiny little pieces that are all equally important as the big picture!
You explain everything very well and yet... it's still so confusing... Time travel by itself is a headache but KH adds body jumping, multiple personalities, and alternate worlds 0_0
King Jae Same. A lot of it is lore that shows up once or twice (Riku doesn’t look like Ansem after the explosion. Why? Because somehow explosions can purify disguises made of darkness 🤷♂️
@@Kidd0Wycked Not Square or Disney's fault that your brain is so fucking short. Quit your fucking crying. If you don't like a long, though-out story then this franchise isn't for you. You bring up nostalgia boner yet you're only here to play 3 and that's obvious. the fuck are you doing here if you don't care about the series. get out.
its okay though guys, cause now we have the x-blade which is the new keyblade that does what the keyblade does but doesn't really do because its does what it does... so confusing, i mean to be fair, the first game had Ansem being able to make a keyblade so... idk it has gone really far overboard though.
I think that Keyblades are way rarer than they seem, but appear to be very common, simply because of their relations with each other and where they are, normal people in the universe wouldn't ever have a chance to get one, let alone see one. Then again, you could site Unchained, considering that several groups of people were given keyblades. There may be something that I'm missing in regards to that, but I don't feel like looking that up, this was just something that I thought of and heard some others talking about.
In case you haven't watched it: Yen Sid has been around since 1940 in Fantasia. His name was revealed in the introductory clip before the actual sequence he's in, and I think they even say it's "Disney" backward in that, but It's been a WHILE since I've watched Fantasia, so don't quote me on that. Anyway, the sequence "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" is where he comes from. He's the sorcerer in question, and Mickey is his apprentice. That's why his hat MAY look familiar(all the art and merch of Mickey in the red robe and signature blue, moon-and-star-patterned hat). That's also why they have that connection in Kingdom Hearts. It's just for different reasons.
The KH story is like driving, for hours, making turns & asking for directions, only to realize you never meant to as far as you did & then you just choose stop at the closest convenient place.
I was a junior in high school when KH2 came out. I graduated high school, went to college, did 6 years in the military, started a career, got married, and had a child. I'm almost 30 and I still haven't played KH3. At this rate, if they ever do make a KH4, my grand kids will be lucky if they get to play it.
It has been stated that Kingdom Hearts 3 will be the last of what they call "The Xehanort Saga", and that they do indeed intend to make more games in the series beyond this saga. So there will be another game, but I doubt it will be called kingdom hearts 4, since to many would expect it to be a continuation of the Xehanort saga
klausiboy kristensen Why would anyone expect a game called kingdom hearts 4 to follow the xehanort saga? The creators have already stated that Sora will remain the main character of kingdom hearts after kh3. So it makes sense to continue the numerical titles.
Well, I just figured, that since Kingdom hearts 1-3 had covered the Xehanort saga, they might want to kinda make a reset on the titling or something like that. Basically, Square has been so all over the place with their titles, that I just half expect them to start naming their games like "Kingdom Hearts, A new light saga part 1: Next frontier" or some crazy stuff like that xD I honestly feel like it's misleading in the first place to have numerical naming for the Kingdom hearts games in the first place, since a lot of softcore fans will guess that the only games that matter are the main titles, which couldn't be further from the truth, so it might be wishful thinking, but I hope they drop the numerical naming
whattheheckification well, I'm kinda ready to move on from Sora, personally. I'm just not ready to move on from all of the awesome characters connected to him :/
I always figured, that the whole "Everybody calls Lea Axel instead of his proper name"-thing was a joke on Lea/Axel's catchphrase "Got it memorized". People got his name so heavily memorized, that they couldn't be bothered to replace it with his actual name
MrDylanHM it’s definitely a way to sell to the maximum amount of fans possible. Excuses to have Cloud, Sephiroth, Aerith, FF8, Disney, and so many other characters that the ads will show as having a huge presence (they did on the first one at least), and then you realize they basically are minor characters, one time boss battles, and basically just to essentially name drop. That said, I still love this and will keep playing and buying. I like that it usually doesn’t take itself so seriously unless you do a breakdown like this. ‘Contrivance Tornado,’ is perfect though.
It only starts to confuse me when someone (or me) is trying to explain it. While playing it you just kinda understand and accept it on an emotional level. It just feels right while playing it but sounds horribly wrong when you try to explain it.
In other words that's $124 and a countless number of hours you need to play catch-up on all the previous games. And that's just for the privilege of not having to play them across 7-8 different devices/emulators.
Considering where Kingdom Hearts the original starts you really gotta wonder how much of this story was planned out and how much was hastily thrown together and hoped would make sense eventually
Based on how Mickey didn’t recognize Terra when the met up in the lab after he was possessed, I’m going to go with the assumption they just threw a lot of stuff together and hoped for the best
Very little was planned out before clearly. Even post KH2 it's been game by game story writing. Gotta give Birth By Sleep credit though, it's a really solid prequel to KH1,2,and sorta Chain of memories, and it is a total retconn. KH1 and 2 weren't originally written with much space for a prequel story, and the game actually tells a compelling story that explains some things about KH1 and 2 to those who have paid attention the the overarching story.
The way I see it, it was probably written in three or more waves. 1) Kingdom Hearts is its own story, written with an open-ended conclusion, but no exact direction yet. 2) Chain of Memories was written with KHII in mind for sure, since it introduced the first seen members of Organization XIII. Kingdom Hearts II concludes itself, with hints of a future. 3) With little hope for a KHIII anytime soon, three games were announced in close proximity, but far apart in release: 358/2 Days, Birth By Sleep, and Coded (eventually Re:Coded for the West). These were obviously written together, but some MAJOR hints in BBS indicate to me that the plot twists in Dream Drop Distance were conceived ahead of time: Braig's and Isa's eyes are brown and blue respectively in BBS, but after Terra wipes out one of his eyes, Braig appears again... with gold eyes. Isa (or rather, Saix) has gold eyes in KHII, meaning the choice to give his BBS self blue eyes had to be consciously hinting the same twist. ???) I don't know if KHIII is still part of wave 3 or if it's in a post-wave 3 era of storytelling. Wave 3 seems to be about setting up the premise of KHIII, but the plot of KHIII may have been written and developed after this setup was finished, starting a potential wave 4. Either way, whatever KHIII is, we know that 2.8's BBS side story with Aqua (BBS 0.2) was originally supposed to be the intro to KHIII, so it probably belongs to whatever wave KHIII is in. But that's just how I see it. A lot of each game is likely written as it goes (like most stories), but you can at least tell that most of the major plot elements and twists after KHII were planned ahead to a significant extent.
King I mean, I wouldn’t say it was “smooth sailing”, as shit really started to get dumb with kh2. Like Kingdom Hearts going from a door to a moon, Riku having Ansem TSODs’ appearance, who wasn’t actually Ansem but ??Xehanort’s??? heartless, who stole the real Ansem’s name because reasons. Oh, and a Secret Ending that completely fucked the lore till BBS. KH2 is my favorite game in the franchise but they really started to mess things up then. The story, as interesting and emotional that it’s been, snowballed into this convoluted and disastrous mess by the finale. It honestly killed a lot of hype I had for KH3, and I’ve been playing this franchise since the beginning. Kingdom Hearts 1 was simple: Sora was the chosen wielder of the keyblade, no one having 738373 identities, no time travel, none of that. Just a simple story of a kid trying to find his friends and save some worlds from the Heartless. Why did they have to go and fuck that all up?
Suggestive Gaming I commend you bro ..you managed to piece together 13 yrs of Disney & Square confusing plot that most of us couldn't even begin to make sense of..13yrs later.. you earned my respect at the very least. :D
Seriously? He casually referenced coded by saying that Mickey found evidence of Ven and co.'s survival (and said nothing else about the game), and with DDD he didn't give the ending and just said "This game is stupid" - like, five times.
Each person has their own preference on things and mine is on this KH vid summary. Try as you might but you guys can't change my mind about this. I love this video. Period.
Ooo so THAT happens, I get it! *25 seconds later* Wat? WAT?! WHAAAAT?! *25 seconds later... again* Oooh so THAT happens! yeah! *25 seconds later yet again * WHAAAAAT?!
I imagine the conversation in the Writer's room going like this: "Okay, guys, listen up. The Developers want us to create a Kingdom hearts 3, no spin-off or prequel this time. You know the drill: bring the notes we had from writing all the previous games and the LSD tags, it's gonna be a long week.
When the story is told in order like this, yeah I suppose so. But if you've been playing the games ad they come out, Mickey is already well established to be a Keyblade master lol
It's almost like the series started off in a completely different place and they didn't plan for even a quarter of the backstory that convolutes the plot now...
KH's story is like a 5 yr old trying to explain their day at the fair. No matter how many times it's explained, you just gotta smile and nod without understanding one bit of what you heard. Thanks for the summary though!
@@btaylor545 playing kh 1 and 2 only will not make you understand the fulls troy, they play a piece in the lore, but a very small piece. Birth by sleep, dream drop distance really lay down the foundation of what this story is really about.
This is actually the BEST summary I have seen thus far. I know its hard to keep track especially if you havent been playing since day 1, but this is about as good as it gets guys
Agreed. I think a little more explanation on Dream Drop distance (towards the ending) would have helped. But aside from that I would definitely say this is one of the best summaries of the entire KH saga. Especially considering how convoluted time travel can be to explain.
I've watched like 3-4 videos before landing here... Do you really think this is one of the best you've come across?! I've never played a KH game before, and it feels like you have. So I'm trusting your opinion, haha :).
After that compressing of 13 years of games into half an hr, and a couple aneurysms and strokes, all i could tell was ventus = sora = roxas but at the same time ventus =/= sora =/= roxas
Aqua, Terra, and Ventus's hearts are linked. Vanitas is Ventus, but not really. Ventus' heart later took refuge in Sora, who is also Roxas and Xion, and linked to Kairi who is also Namine. DiZ is really Ansem, but not the same Ansem who's also Xehanort who is also Xemnas. Then there are the Data versions of everyone. Riku's heart is linked to Sora's, as is Axel's who is also Lea. Xigbar is also Braig and became Xehanort. Oh, and Maleficent also likes to float around and pretend that she's the villain, even though she's totally not. Not convoluted AT ALL. Although it is easier if you keep in mind, as Vaugn Monger's friend said, "Everyone is either Xehanort, or inside Sora's heart," which is actually a pretty accurate summary.
Lil Roach Dogg I'm pretty sure that hearts in KH are basically the soul of that person. So a heartless is actually a heart that has been consumed by darkness, while a Nobody is a body without a heart (or soul) that grow their own personality and (in some cases) their own heart.
He's essentially Voldemort if Voldemort was able to master time travel and atcually use it to his advantage to place various Horcruxes throughout time, making it impossible for Harry to destroy any of them by the time the final battle hits. So basically, if Voldemort was half as smart as Xehanort is, Harry would have been fucked.
That is pretty much the nature of Kingdom hearts games though. You almost always have a starting world that has nothing to do with anything disney related (Destiny islands, Traverse town and Land of Departure), some story and events that have nothing to do with disney, and then suddenly, introduce Donald, Goofy, Mickey and/or some other disney themed character/world. So yeah, I think it's fitting that Mickey casually shows up a little ways in the video like it's the most natural thing xD
The names are the only thing confusing you? And apparently this is a great way to see how the story goes in these games?! Im just saying that god damn how convoluted can a plot be :D
Jocke1234 I personally am pretty good at understanding convoluted things like time travel, alternate timelines, other selves (clones, other halfs, alternate universe versions, etc.), politics, etc. But I never was that good with names, especially in real life. :(
This Guy I can somehow wrap my brain around the plot here but it has just way too much stuff for me to handle it completely 😅 Even if it was laid out without the time travel things in it i would probably be lost..
I love how for the first 5 minutes the story has nothing to do with the Disney universe then suddenly “Aqua aided by another key blade apprentice, Mickey Mouse.” Like what 😂
David Rich yes you are smart enough to identify which one. A genius would craft a complicated and nuanced narrative that you can follow. Think of whatever of your favorite fictional stories are that fulfill that criteria. What Nomura crafted on the other hand......
P -Mac not really, kh is more similar to Star Wars than anything else. The only notable thing naruto and kh really have in common is sora, riku, and kairi being like naruto, sasuke, and sakura
clout benis Well you are correct in a sense, but it is based around Japanese Lore mixed into Disney. So my statement could come off as a little close minded by only attributing naruto as a.major influence...really its all of Japanese lore...but I am saying the series now is branching away from Star wars(i agree initially it was) and becoming more similair to Naruto. Especially as the series is getting more mature and dark

As someone who only played the console games KH 1 & 2 on PS2, this was a much needed update going into KH3! Since I didn't get a PS3 or P4 all of the prequels and side stories from final mix versions seemed impossible to learn in 2018. This was the video we needed!!
Yo, same-ish. I grew up watching my brother play them. To this day I am still tormented by the phrase: "Dance, Water Dance" from the battle I never won as an 8-year-old.
There's only like two side stories tbh. As you can see from this video, a bunch of titles (like Birth By Sleep and Dream Drop Distance) are just as important as KH2.
Really great but listed some missed points that are fairly important. -When Ventus and Vanitas merge Ventus and Vanitas have a battle within their own heart. Ventus defeats Vanitas by shatering the X-Blade since it was made from both of them Ventus essentially sacrificed himself to take him out. This act saves Aqua and Mickey and what lead him to a comatosed state -After Terra becomes possessed a piece of his will is salvaged inside his armour bringing it to life as *"Lingering Will"* this form is able to defeat Xehanort possessing Terra's body allowing Terra's heart to gian some ground and weaken Xehanort, partly why hes been dormant all this time. To this date Lingering Will is still wondering and no one knows where it is. -Aqua leaves Ventus's body in their home world *"Land of Departure"* which is transformed into *"Castle Oblivion"* a twisted Labyrinth with the purpose to protect Land of Departure's secrets and now Vantus's body. -Aqua confronts Xehanort possessing Terra's body and does battle, Terra's previous efforts have left Xehanort weakened as Xehanort appears confused and disorientated. Terra is able to briefly take back control to perform a suicide attack which plunges him and Xehanort into darkness, but Aqua chases Terra-Xehanort and sends him back while leaving herself trapped in the darkness. Terra-Xehanort no longer evil or a threat atm is discovered by Ansem the Wise who helps him and eventually makes him one of his many students. -After Sora beats Riku possessed by Ansem Riku is able to regain control and hold back Ansem letting Sora and Kairi escape but Riku is banished to the Realm of Darkness afterward which is how he appeared on the other side of the door to darkness. -When in Castle Oblivion Riku and Sora encounter and fight various members of the organization and *Riku Replica"* a dark counterpart of Riku created to trick Sora as part of the routine to manipulate his memories and to tempt riku to fall back into darkness and be a useful tool to them. Riku's own darkness resurfaces to take the shape of Heartless Ansem who he battles and eventually defeats to gain control of his own Dark Powers. -Its worth noting that Roxas is pretty strong once Xion is no longer siphoning his strength as he is able to wield two keyblades (Sora & Ventus's) and overpower Riku and Sora on separate occasions -In KH2 Riku disguised as a cloaked figure and doesn't meet up with Sora till much later because hes ashamed of himself as hes taken on Ansem's form and using Darkness but hes been leaving clues and a trail on how to reach Organization XIII's stronghold.
xehanorts heartlesses which calls himself ansem, but yeah I should be more specific. I see the confusion of having a backstory with two characters that share the same name
@@Flotsome alright I haven't played the game's but why do ventus, roxas and perhaps vanitas I don't know for sure look like Sora? I really need to buy those games
Vanitas took on Sora's appearance because when Ventus's heart spit and Sora healed Ventus he supplemented the darkness that was ripped from his heart allowing him to heal. Vanitas and Ventus are connected so Vanitas inherited that appearance. Roxas Sora's nobody looks like Ventus because of how much Ventus has unknowingly had an influence on Sora (its what essentially enabled him to wield a keyblade in the first place).
One important detail you forgot to mention. In Re:Coded, Maleficent makes a connection between Mickey's Datascape device and the Book of Prophecies. This is an important connection because according to the Kingdom Hearts 3 trailers, we now see Maleficent and Pete searching for the black box the Master of Masters left Luxu in charge of. This will, I believe, connect those events in the past with the present. Other than that, good video.

They're all people who used to have regular names. But once they become nobody's, their name gets jumbled up with an X thrown in. Sora=Roxas, Axel=Lea, Xemnas=Ansem, Xigbar=Braig, Xaldin=Dilan, Vexen=Even, Lexaeus=Aeleus, and so on, I'm not doin them all. Lol
This is amazing, you've done an outstanding job. I know nothing of you or your channel, but because of this one video I subbed. Thank you for this, truly.
Yes coded was definitely the series main downfall as it originally released on a JP only cell phone marketplace. A few years later down the line it was re-released on the Nintendo DS in a "remastered port" and then finally it was released one last time on PS3/4 in the 2.5 HD remix as a movie, (along with 358/2) as both games were well liked by some but heavily criticized by the general public and hardcore main series fans (Seriously just watch the movies, the games are cancer)......But yeah Coded was a mistake
Its easier to swallow if you remember this is a battle of science at its core. The masters of masters was a scientist, Ansem a scientist, Xenahort a scientist. Key wielding scientist...
@@PivotDJ That's actually a really great way of thinking about it. I went in thinking it was all magic and fantasy, but the story is probably more sci-fi than anything else.
2.9 is the sequel to 2.8. KH3 is two games, the intro being 2.9 and KH3. KH2 is actually a plethora of games divided in several titles. KH1 is a game itself. KH2 is the most complex because it contains a lot of other filler games
I actually understand Kingdom Hearts now. What's more surprising is that all the side games connect and come back around full circle. I'm actually impressed by not only by the amazing work done here with this video (thanks for going the chronological route ^_^) but the fact that it actually all connects in a somewhat believable manner. This was an awesome video, thanks!
