Kings Canyon National Park - Neglected Treasure (Vlog/Park #22)

Kings Canyon National Park is adjacent to Sequoia National Park. Some of Kings is similar to Sequoia hosting giant Sequoia trees in the upper elevations. Yet what many neglect is the one road that leads to the lower canyon elevation. That section was similar to Yosemite. We show you both of these locations in this brief video. Thanks for watching!

You're absolutely correct about Kings Canyon NP; a true hidden gem among our wonderful National Parks. We cannot wait to go back and spend several days, rather than just the drive down to Muir Rock and a couple short stops along the way back up the canyon drive. This place is magnificent, which brings your soul to a place of peace and wonder.

Amen, Scott, my heart exactly. Well-said! We only had a few hours there. Dying to get back, like you, and really experience this place!

Randy, Thanks to you and Natalie for the introduction to Kings Canyon NP. I agree, from what you showed us, this is definitely worth seeing. THANKYOU FOR THE TOUR, . . . Mike

Thanks for the great video Pastor Randy. Because of your videos, our family just got back from a 12 day trip visiting Sequoia, Kings Canyon, Lassen, and Redwoods. Kings Canyon was my favorite and I so hope you get to visit again and spend a little more time. Down in the canyon is the best part. Zumwalt meadows is now one of my favorite hikes and swimming in Kings river at Muir Rock was a blast. I can't wait to go back and hike to Paradise Valley.

So great to hear, Michael! Thankful your family had a blessed trip, brother. Plan to visit Kings in September - hopefully with a little more time on this trip. Made a note of your suggestions!

I hope to do this one day with my kids in the future, you’re an amazing father figure and I wish I had the chance to experience that with my dad, but having him work so hard took up too much of his time. Thank you for doing adventures like this with your daughter, I look forward to watching more videos!

Thanks, Norma! Grateful for the time together as they are all growing up so fast. We do these trips rather inexpensively. Hope you can get out to the National Parks with your children. Appreciate the very kind words!

I've not yet been here but quickly realized how underrated this gem is. I'm doing a trip to Sequoia, Kings and Yosemite next month. Initially we were going to combine Sequoia and Kings on the same day. Now they are two separate days and I'm considering extending it to three because Kings is MASSIVE. That said most hikes there are not day hikes so might only be able to realistically do 1 full day.

Probably a good call, Aaron! That was our situation as well. Totally underestimated the beauty down in the valley at Kings. No one talks it up with all the attention going to Sequoia. Enjoy!

The kings canyon high country with the possible exception of north cascades NP is the most rugged wilderness in the lower 48. A land of towering peaks blue lakes and granite just beautiful.

Very well said, Earl! Thought it was more like Sequoia. I had no idea until we descended a few thousand feet. So remote, beautiful, undisturbed and private. Wish we had more time that day to explore it. Have a great New Year!

A tree is not just like another tree. Both parks are worth exploring and have their own unique beauties. Thanks for posting. Sequoia and kings canyon have a special place in my heart as the first national parks I visited upon moving to CA. ❤️

King's Canyon is an unbelievable place to visit. Road's end offers some of the finest hikes in the Sierras. The color of the Kings flowing through there is so emerald it makes the precious stones jealous. I live about an hour and a half from Yosemite and SEKI and you really can't go wrong with either. SEKI has far better campgrounds and far less people. The Sierra Wilderness in between the two parks is equally as gorgeous! The Sierras are my fave place on this earth and a place my soul feels at rest.

Thanks for the great words, Nat! Good taste! We had a half day and took the drive down into Kings. Way, way to short to experience this amazing gem. Hope to get back in September. Take care!

Americas Parks the were incredible animals. Super smart. I found them as starving puppies in a plum orchard. They became aggressive with the family for seemingly no reason. They bit my step dad for walking by. Loved me. I loved them. I miss them. Kings canyon was a favorite spot of ours. They rest there now.

That video brought back some memories. Karen and I spent a couple anniversaries there when we lived in LA. Karen gets car sick too. On the way back up I had to wake her up because as we were driving a tarantula was crossing the road. So big I could see it after passing in our rear view mirror. We turned around but she got freaked out that it would somehow attach to our car and make its way in. So we didn't stop to look at it very long. So cool there. Great vlog!
@AmericasParks
@AmericasParks 6 лет назад
Thanks for watching and commenting, Jack! What a great story (for you!) - I have never seen a tarantula out in nature. The fact that you could see it from the mirror definitely testifies to it's size. Most of this trip with Natalie was a lot of hills with turns. So unlike driving on the Jersey Shore and so unfriendly to anyone who struggles with carsickness!

we did that drive back in 2014. we actually spent most of our time down in the canyon while there. We also did the Boyden cave tour while there( Crystal in sequoia is better). Awesome seeing that much water in the river.I bet it was cold! Water was really low went we went in 2014 but it was beautiful.Great video! Looking forward to seeing your video for Sequoia! I got to get back there and see more of that park.Its only about 61/2 hours from us.

Kings was more than I expected. When I first visited back in 2009, I thought Kings only really consisted of the General Grant Grove. Unfortunately I didn't save much time to really enjoy it on this trip. It was basically a drive in, a few pictures, a dip in the COLD river and then back out. Like you, I sure would appreciate a return trip!

Excellent Tour! Kings Canyon is way underrated for sure... *edit.. after seeing this and talking with my buddy, we got a campsite in the area for next weekend.. going back!! ///also that the majority of it requires backpacking in makes it less known to most people (but very popular among backpackers). I say seeing that incredibly deep steep canyon alone is worth the trip into Kings Canyon, and the Sequoias are a bonus. Awesome Park. Kings actually got us started in backpacking because all the souvenirs have pictures of the Kearsarge Lakes on them.. Well, the "easy" way to get to them is to start on the east side from 395, drive up to Onion Valley then hike over Kearsarge Pass... Had to do it// made it in 2015, going back in July this year. It's about 6 miles and 2500 ft up/1500 down to the Lakes and then you can access the JMT/PCT, tons of other stuff... one of the Most Beautiful parts of the Sierra is in Kings Canyon National Park Park but you have a long hike in to see it.. anyway this side definitely has its merits as well thanks for this great tour i need to get back to this side as well...

That is great stuff! Thank you! We had only a few hours and had no idea what to expect at Kings. It was far beyond our expectations. This video really doesn't do this amazing place any justice. Hope to get back and really experience this Park some day. Have a great trip yourself!

Yeah, some big elevation changes and winding roads! Probably common to CA residents, but flat land and straight roads here!
@harlandeke
@harlandeke 2 года назад
I think KCNP gets slighted because of lack of access. It is basically a huge wilderness park, if you are a backcountry person that can hike 10-20 miles with 10-12 thousand feet of elevation change, then it is a huge slice of pure heaven...but 99% of us can not do that.
@AmericasParks
@AmericasParks 2 года назад
Right on! We really short-changed this park in 2017. Actually planned to go back next week, but cancelled tonight due to all the wildfires in the area. Have a great weekend!

@@AmericasParks we are headed out there in four weeks..everything is booked and mostly paid for in a ten day Yosemite-Death Valley-Sequoia-Kings Canyon-Channel Islands-Big Sur-Pinnacles trip...lol.
