Kings of Leon cover Robyn's Dancing On My Own in the Live Lounge for Fearne Cotton on BBC Radio 1. Check out more Live Lounge performances herewww.bbc.co.uk/events/rnc5d4
I hate the fact that Callum Scott’s straight copy of this cover got all the fame. It’s 2024 and this is still one of the best covers to happen on the BBC.
***** Or it could be a gay guy watching his bisexual boyfriend leaving him for a girl, and he wishes to be her. Either way, it's pretty fucked up and quite sad. I bet most of us have been through that at one point in our lives.
It's been a year and a half since they've performed on Live Lounge but I still haven't heard a cover as good as theirs. They nailed it! I think this is better than original.
The fact this is 10 years ago hurts my brain. I remember sharing this video with my bandmates the day this came out saying "WE NEED TO COVER THIS!!!" and we played it at our next gig 4 days later. 18 at the time. Summer 2013. Just turned 29 last week. Great fucking memories.
@@StormInATeaCup35 absolutely agree. Love that people were eventually like "yeah no fuck that who cares if it sounds homoerotic, that shit makes the kids jump like crazy!"
@@StormInATeaCup35 Have you ever sung someone else's songs? Replacing "girl" with "guy" or "one" wouldn't detract from the emotional content of this piece. Then again, matey's Thor hammer necklace should allow him/her/them to smash any gender stereotypes, yeh?
@@StormInATeaCup35 depends. It can help the person who do the cover to feel it on a more personal level. It helps for interpretation. Listen to the cover Camp Cope did from Sam Fender Seventeen going under. Cause they are not from the same country, nor from the same gender, they made the song their own by changing some details. It's dope. So yeah, it's not from the early 2k's It's timeless and depend from an artist to an other, and from a song to and other too sometimes (imo oc)
This song hurts so bad. The worst thing there is, is loving someone who loves someone else. And then watching them being together. Just breaks my heart.
He has no idea how lucky he is to have that voice. Not just the fact that it's made him millions, just the fact that it's fucking perfect. He could sing the phonebook and I would melt.
I remember when this came out. We would listen to BBCradio in the office & there was a day when Live Lounge would come on at 11am. I remember this song came on & when it came over the airwaves the hairs on my arms slowly standing up. 8 years later & I still get the same feeling. This is one of the best SONGS ever let alone cover.
Wouldn’t say they’re underrated are under appreciated imo , it depends on how you define “underrated “ ? Commercial success? Size of their fan base ? Longevity ? Critical success ? In all of those categories you can’t sat they’re underrated at all. Pretty banal comment .
They performed this song for the first time in one of their live sets at Lollapalooza in Chicago (Aug. 3, 2014) as part of the encore. It was unbelievable.
without a doubt, one of the best covers ever. caleb said in the interview after that they couldnt change the lyrics because they are perfect.. humble words from a fantstic band
4:40 Humble, down to earth, & easy to relate to. Hoping for good health & feeling grateful to have discovered Caleb & the band Kings of Leon. We are from the same geographic area & I feel a kindred spirit with these musicians. ❤⭐️⚡️
Ironically, Robyn's original version sounds a lot like "I am the guy you're taking home". But the "kissing her" part would be hard to hear as "kissing him".
This song is so... illustrative. You just can see the scenes, can imagine the pain the girl is going through, the anger, the disappointment, sense of minority. The whole range of states you have when you underestimate yourself and want someone's love so badly. Perfectly depicted.
I kinda feel like it's apples and oranges with the arrangement, he made it his own. They both perform their version/arrangement with perfection. But in the end she wrote it, so this cover wouldn't exist without her talents.
Kings of Leon are entirely misrepresented on FM radio. They have such a rich catalog of music. So unbelievably talented. I listen to this cover regularly. One day I hope KOL will make an entire album of covers. They have always picked songs I wouldn’t expect them to do and they knock it out of the park every time
I am a fan of both Robyn and Kings of Leon. If I had my say, I'd say that Robyn should be writing rock lyrics. I mean, most of her songs would make for good adaptations. I'm not sure if it's the whiskey talking, but this is fucking brilliant. Probably even better than the original. There's just something about it. It really captures the feel of the desperation of the song. It's so great. It's so brilliant and tragically beautiful.
They do and it's really easy to replicate if you feel the need. Gibson ES335 through a vox twin. Or on a budget you could use an epiphone dot and a second hand fender amp. All knobs to the middle, et voila. KOL tone
Yeah and their bass lines are ALWAYS the shit. especially their old albums. Because of the times is their best album imo. Everything about this band in that era is gold. They're still great but back then was some of the best music I've ever heard. One of the best bands ever!!!
Grab an Epiphone Sheraton (Matthew plays one) from Reverb and a Vox AC-15 (Caleb plays one) and you’re good to go. Both of them use the MXR Micro Amp boost. That’ll take you the rest of the way.

21:15 on the 22.10.2022 and I find myself listening to this beaut again. The original is perfect but this cover takes perfection to another level. The voice on him, wowsa!
I remember listening to this live on the radio, blew me away. Blew the DJ Fearne Cotton away to, she was speechless. A live lounge that’ll never be topped.
***** I think she meant that he didn't change the pronouns and girl to guy and things like that. Not like literally changing some of the lyrics to make it their own. Because a lot of people change pronouns when a person of a different sex is singing the song their covering.
I know what you mean; I have that much more respect for the band when they don't change the pronouns or anything, clearly comfortable within themselves.
I find them amazing in the way they can manipulate music the way they do. Their albums make me feel I'm always at a small bar concert, the way that not only am I hearing them play, but my body is absorbing the feeling of it being played. That may make no sense to anyone, but it makes sense to me lol. Seeing them live is like taking their studio(small bar concert) and cranking it to 11 for me. It's weird in a definite profound way for me. Linkin Park does this to me as well.
I want to add something I forgot but wanted to say. I love these guys I may not love every song of theirs but I love, just love their sound. I could be blindfolded(and probably if you are reading this you as well lol) and someone could put on a song, ANY song, but they are covering it instead and I would know it's them. There sound is distinctive and never heard a band duplicate it .. I hope nobody ever does. 🙂
I just played this song for the first time I can't believe he covered this from the females perspective exactly as the original was meant to be🎉 That's how you do a cover you cover the artist the way the artist made it❤ I swear this band and his voice are absolute stunning perfection his voice is like no other 💯
