The DI engine was and still is the best engine ever fitted into the Ford Transit. They were noisy but kept on going. These engines are very iconic indeed. They were very reliable engines to work on and maintain them to keep them fully operational.

The Bristol VR's with the Gardner 6LX/6LXB engines are an iconic double decker bus.

I remember the Mercedes Reeve-Burgess and Plaxton Beaver buses very well indeed.

That DI engine on C862 DYD runs and sounds as sweet as a nut. That's how they should sound. The DI was and still is a very reliable and nostalgic diesel engine in the Ford Transits. The engine on this one sounds spot on.

The Ford Transit Carlyle and Dormobile Minibuses were very reliable and very nippy in the 1980's and 1990's. They all had the 2.5 DI engine fitted into them. Although the DI engine was noisy, they made such a distinct and well recognised sound so that you would know that it was a Ford Transit just by listening to the engine sound. They were and still are great little workhorses. They are very nostalgic.

When I was younger in 1995 and was 9 years old at the time I went on my first holiday to the Isle of Wight, I remember there were lots of these little Ford Transit minibuses in Weymouth with their distinctive yellow Shuttle fleet colours very similar to this one. I remember them operating in and around the town centre and along the seafront on a regular basis. They all had the DI engine. That's why these vehicles are a national icon.

C862 DYD is an iconic little Ford Transit minibus fitted with the legendary 2.5 DI engine. These engines were and still are the best diesel engines fitted into the Ford Transits. They are so well known and recognised by their engine sound.

The Ford Transit based bus was also on the Isle of Wight for sometime, but we're called bread vans. Also, the Mercedes Benz Plaxton minibuses were used in London on the C1 service from Victoria to South Kensington.
