Ivanchuk is a monster. When he is at best of his shape, even Magnus Carlsen can lose to him. The poor Indian lad - a classic "son of the computer" - simply played at his best, but Chucky is really of another planet.

Yes, "planet Ivanchuk" as Anand so well put it.

Some times I wonder whether those amazing young talents fall victim to their ability to memorize long lines. I think I remember an interview of yours, Daniel, with Nihal I think, where he remembered an..obscure(?) line from video by Gustafson like it was nothing. But do they put the corresponding effort to understanding the positions? (it's not even always possible to fully understand the computer lines, it seems even for GM's). It seems to me when they lose it's a sudden mistake, without too much of a fight. (and I am not throwing stones...that's how I lose most of my games ;D) Or maybe it's just youth! :) Nonetheless, it's exciting to view their games.

He will learn and grow from such experiences. On his day Chucky can crush anyone so no shame in this defeat.

Great opening choice by Ivanchuk by choosing Bc4 over the wild Rauzer positions. Handling the Qb6-Sozin requires great experience like Kramnik had in the 90s, playing Topalov countless times. White has many decent options as Daniel indicated. Praggs time management speaks for itself.

Ivanchuk should get the wild card for the Candidates and not some draw master

When I played up 36 years, it seemed natural. Now when I have to play down 36 years, I can’t help but scream about the injustice of it all.

i recognised that strategy from chunky, i call it the lock, load and fire , split the defenders army in two with a locked centre ,mass your pieces on the king side then fire! even at my low level i saw that coming, as soon as that bishop was locked out . no doubt Prag will get his revenge ,he just had an off day .

Black’s pieces remained undeveloped at end game on 1st rank - a great mistake by Pragg, and Ivanchuk pounded on the king’s side.

Weaknesses of the youngsters, they sometimes struggle to handle their mood and emotions. It's ironical: this was Ivanchuck's own weakness throughout his career. (Does someone know the reason RU-vid keeps deleting ALL my comments? Maybe this one will be deleted too. It's a bit irritating... I've already sent feedbacks a few times, but no results).

I understand you are monetizing you’re channel but having non functional links in the white space under the moves is very distracting, especially in full screen mode. I hope you will consider removing them from that space.

He is still a child, after a few years these players will suffer against him, although Ivancuk keeps playing great chess at his 50´s. Ivancuk is a living legend of chess ,one of the best players ever, much better player than many world champions.

How could Pragg played till he got a French position with his pieces unable to defend his King. One would have thought this is a game between a GM and an Amateur rated about 1700. Even a 1700 nowadays are more fierce, but this game ended quickly without a fight from Black. And the last few moves with the undefended King position can be seen, found and studied by most beginners in a lot of basic Kingside Attack books
@varishnakov
@varishnakov 4 года назад
With a computer in hindsight every GM who loses can look like a 1700.
@bedokgentler
@bedokgentler 4 года назад
I like to repeat you cannot play ...d5 like Pragg did, allowing a French Defence position, without dying pitifully. Look at how the black knight, a key defender, was kicked uselessly to the queenside, when "White's pieces are already massed on the king side". Even an Amateur as white will knew how to attack from here, never mind Vassily

No, that's far to premature; black can just recapture with the king and should be able to defend his position and keep the material advantage.
