One Night in Miami star Kingsley Ben-Adir, who today was nominated for the 2021 EE Rising Star Award at the #EEBAFTAs, sat down with Producer Martina Silcock, a participant in our BAFTA Newcomers Program, for a conversation over Zoom as part of our Tea with BAFTA☕️ series.
This series pairs longlisted performers for the #EEBAFTAs with participants of our international talent development programs, for a brief chat over a cup of tea.
Kingsley and Martina discussed what he learned about heroism in his portrayal of Malcolm X in Amazon Prime Video's film, as well as what they have learned during the past year of COVID restrictions.

Kingsley Ben-Adir is so dreamy. he has a disarming smile. loved his acting in Soulmates, Hi-Fidelity, and One Night in Miami. he's a great actor. a revelation.

Kingsley, yes he's easy on the eyes, but what I love about him most is his level of understanding. His need to go deeper and try to get a full understand of how an individual whom he is portraying is feeling in a split moment. Not every one can tap into that level of understanding and see through the eyes of another and encapsulate their perspective and events leading up to that point. Yeah, Kingsley is gifted. I hope we see him in many more great movies and he doesn't get swallowed into HollyWEIRD. He did a phenomenal job playing Bob Marley and Malcolm X regardless of the fact that Denzel Washington (who's an incredible actor) did it first. Kingsley did his own take on it and nailed it!
