@@blackmamba6938because here in Brazil the KS-S22 is more than 2x more expensive than the 16X and the 18XL. And besides that, having had both, I think the riding experience is completely different. It took me some time to get used to the 18XL. Even though I still miss my 16X, I do not regret buying the 18XL.
@@hammodshalimar5169 There alot of people out there just want to ride fast dont say nothing about the wheel. I dont care about how much the wheels are. If the person is honest and truerhful, i always buy from them. This dude is the best.
I rode my XL yesterday up and down the coastline at Blackpool to Fleetwood and back. Altogether 50 km or around 30 miles. Non-stop, average speed around mid range. It was around 16 degrees C, total weight fully kitted about 100 kg. At the end there was 56% charge left. Now we all know that this doesn’t equate charge for another 50 km but I am pretty confident that I would be able to eek out another 20 km at least. In summer probably 80 km in total which is all I ever need. My legs were quite sore at that stage already. As to the ride: very pleasant indeed! I installed the larger foot boards and it was a lot more comfortable than with the smaller stock ones. No foot cramp (which I used to get on long rides with the small boards of my KS16S) and I felt that overall control was better. Although the wheel at first felt a bit unwieldy, very soon I got to grips with it and handling is almost as responsive as with the 16S. The best thing is that it copes much better with obstacles, pot holes and uneven terrain than the 16 inch wheels I was used to. This wheel inspires confidence. The extra 2 inches in height are great, too. As Ian mentioned the improvements are subtle but effective and well thought out. Thus far I am very happy with it. Just hope that the new app will be worth the wait. Currently after connecting the app refers to my wheel as ‘illegal equipment’. When you sign in it says ‘lovely notice’. Hopefully they’ll find someone who speaks English at Kingsong before they present us with the new app.
Matt Tautz glad you are getting on with it! Congrats on the wheel. Yes difference between 0c and 16c will be massive for range increase. Roll on summer!
Spot on, both Speedy Feet and Matt Tautz! I'm REALLy enjoying my 18XL too! The XL footplates are fantastic too! Very comfortable & they allow me to ride for much longer! Although they did initially change the riding dynamics somewhat and take a bit to get used to. Very pleased with the range too: am getting a good 70 km out of the wheel (Mediterranean winter: between 15 and 18º C during the day), without draining the battery completely. I reckon I could push it to 80 or even 90 (78 kg, fully geared). Great wheel! The stability is AMAZING, very smooth ride, never lacking in power....I love this wheel! (And what an upgrade, coming from an IM V8!). My only grudge is with KS's app. Took several hours to even unlock the wheel, and several more to unlock the max. speed. After unlocking it, I uninstalled the app and switched to WheelLog (so much better!). One day I tried out the new (blue) KS app, and since I wasn't able to login with my e-mail, I had to create a new account with my phone number, which reverted my max. speed back to factory defaults. Was able to solve it with an older version of the app...but it took a while. WHY do they sell such well-made wheels with such ridiculously buggy apps? BTW, what pressure do you use? The tire says 35-45 PSI. I'm using 40 and it feels about right.
Newest update: I have now done 500 km on the KS18XL and it has now hands down become my favourite wheel, even prefer it to the KS16S. It’s flawless, responsive, fast and with now 50 mile range in the higher temperatures I can’t see much reason to revert to the KS16S. I find the XL with the addition of the larger foot boards actually easier to ride. It certainly feels safer off-road. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the KS16S but if I had to choose between them it would be the 18XL every time. Only drawback is the additional weight. I wouldn’t want to hoik this thing around as in carrying it upstairs. Also, the switch-off function when lifting it off the ground is very hit and miss. Other than that I won’t be looking for another wheel for some time to come.
@@matttautz231 same here, couldn't be happier! Prefect all-rounder! The only time I use my V8 is for short errand runs out when I'm taking the train, subway, etc., and prefer the lighter weight and more reliable anti-spin button (or for learning new tricks : it's easier to learn them on the (lighter) V8. Can't see myself needing an upgrade anytime soon. The range is great, and 50 km/h is far enough for me
Matt Tautz i sold my 16s as there is no more need in it. Once you’ve tried the 18xl, 16s is surplus. I also sold my motorcycle and am completely an EUC slave for reasons of practicality and fun. You can push the xl up the stairs without having to lift it. Check it out online.
Some things to say to the differences: Differences of trolley is not only other Colour: Stronger and new insides, stronger locks, more sturdy…..to handle higher weight Also the LED is stronger/brighter on the XL(this differences are only to early 18L versions, new 18L all have all this Progress, too, LED, Trolley, mudguard etc) For the Login Problems: Dont know when you recorded this, but yeah, unfortunatly the Server was down for a few days (DarknessBot can then help out with Speed settings) Voltage drop on such temperatures is very extrem ….Pretty Cold there in England :-) You still havent Changed from voice to Beeps ;-) As Always, Nice Video, Ian!
Yes, I am comparing to off the line KS18L and KS18XL, not 'inferior' early release versions (otherwise there would be quite a few to list like you have. I am just sticking to whats relevant right now as it stands basically, otherwise it gets quite complex) England is cold at the moment....cant wait for the summer!
Good review Ian, I like your EUC tests which are practical real life reports not some controlled ride in unrealistic circumstances. And it is good that you use "map my ride" to measure distance as opposed to the hopelessly optimistic King Song app.
Hello Speedy Feet UK!!! Thanks you for all the videos you made about unicycle !! Many details!! I like that :-) I have one question … Why the king song app recognize the 18XL as a Illegal Equipment ? (3:58 Time on video) Thanks in advance !!
have they fixed the battery overheating and wheels locking up problem in the new version? the kx18l had an issue where it'd lock up when not riding and moving around with the handle.
Great review. I´d like one of those (as well). Is the Msuper more silent than these KS18 models? How is the failure rate between KS and Gotway. The same?
Hi Ian thanks for help the other day can’t wait to get me king song 18XL TUESDAY I’ve got me shopping trolley ready lol and like to thank you again for a great service
Hello !! Thanks for all your datails about Unicycles. I decided to but the KS 18XL. You have more knowledge than me. I just get my KS 18XL last week and after 4 days of use it the unicycle it turn off by it self. Was 53 % left before ( like 5 green battery light) I press the power button and nothing happen. I plug in the power charger and after 5 hours charging try again and nothing. What can be the problem? Thanks in advance!!!
Sad to read that...ive been thinking kingsong makes iffy wheels so i think im going to focus on Gotway instead. . Thanx 4 ur post it helped me 2 decide.
I think they are about on par with each other, not much to distinguish them really. Such powerful motors, the KS16X might just have it due to it being slightly smaller diameter wheel....but only a nats hair.
If you want safety and as a starter ewheel like I am debating KingSong but the Gotway MSX seems powerful and not much ristrictions its cool the MSX supposedly has a battery trickling motherboard or chip on or by the handle so battery last more resistant.
Goin Postal as per video - it’s winter here. Summer test will be done...no way I will get 65 out of it, but might get 45 all being well in 21c ish. PS - was of course on latest firmware.
Hey 'Postal! Yeah the software right now is hopeless. Just a complete locked up mess. I've been using darkness bot. It kinda is scary if I think about it to much. I'm trusting my life to the on board firmware but they can't get the software usable. Hope they are different programmers! Those big foot pedals have saved my feet from any pain for up to 15 miles! That's as far as I've gone in one hop so far. Other than the software, the wheel is a bullet proof marvel. I hope they get a good update soon.
gliderrider is it locked up or you just can’t get thru the login process? If it’s the former, that’s not good. If it’s the latter, it’s difficult but there is a procedure. Let me know which, I can probably find the procedure. DarknessBot is great after you get the original app login working. I had the same issues with my 18S, but I figured they fixed the app by now. Silly really. They would be money ahead to hire some hick to translate for their programmers. Sadly, seems they don’t care enough to fix it.
Speedy Feet UK Ian, strange. Here is Marty’s range test.. watch from minute 18 on.. he rode 57 miles and had 20% left.. his test is where I got my figures from. One thing I found is, make sure you top it off using the original charger. I used an alternative charger with my 18S for a while, and wondered why my range dropped. I went back to original charger, and range came back. Can’t explain why, but that’s what happened. I hope the wheel surprises you, if not, I wonder why the difference. Anyway, great vid as usual.
the % limiting aint exclusive to wheeles its the same for all P.E.V my skateboard is the same 100%-50% 20 miles 50%-30% 5 miles then the power limiting comes in (LIPOs)
@@Speedyfeetuk And I bet they were mostly bought for OAPs of low mobility. It's not a criticism, just an idea for where they should be marketed towards. I actually love it. Only rode it a few times, shame they can't be used legally in UK cos I think they'd really take off. Unfortunately though, our government knows best.(Yeah, right)
Yeah governments decisions and slowness and lack of understanding sucks. Re where they are used almost 99% of our sales are to customers who commute with them to and from work. Even have surveyors using them! Saves £100’s in fuel
