In the mid part of the twentieth century, the Senecas lived on 10,000 acres in what is now the Allegheny Territory, but that changed drastically in 1960. Channel 2's Terry Belke reports.
I was a little girl on that reservation in 1956. We lived a peaceful happy life. My Mother was Welsh and greatly impressed with the warmth the Seneca people showed her and her small children. My Father worked in New York as a steelworker and came home on weekends. We lost our home and my Fathers way of life. I don't think he ever got over losing everything he knew and loved.

I imagine that prior to their removal, the Senecas living on the Allegany reservation were one of the few truly living off the land, maybe one of the few reservations on such land which provided very good sustainable resources (wildlife, water, agriculture). Although the area is very beautiful today, I wish I could experience it as it was.
