About 5 years ago, I read a story about an elderly woman who died in Greenwich Viilage. She had moved to NYC in 1955 to be an actress. To save money, she lived in an apartment with 3 other young women. I think her share of the rent was $4 a month. Over the years, the other women moved out, but she stayed in the apartment. When she died, 63 years later,her rent was $28.43 a month.

New subscriber here. I discovered your channel last night, subscribed, and left it on while I slept. Needless to say, it was like astral projection as I dreamed I was being rowed in Central Park Pond in the spring. I’m still watching this morning as I work from home waaaay over here in Sacramento. Thanks for that and for doing what you do. 💗

People come to see our beautiful garden. What about the ferry and the walk along the water. Dog park. Tell the Nyu hospital history too.

This one brought back so many memories living in the nabe as a young man thirty years ago. I lived at 23 Lex former Martha Wash hotel which were like micro studios, which went for $500 a month. Ooh boy! I remember walking up Curry Hill but I didn't eat indian food at the time. Also used to go to a Baskin Robbins at the end of 23rd &1st. It's a great, quiet section but now it's too expensive!

You did a great job with the tour! I enjoy watching your videos and was especially excited to see one covering my neighborhood. I liked how you included a stop showing the housing projects around Bellevue South Park and didn't just stop at Kips Bay Plaza. Urban renewal projects played a major role in the history of Kips Bay and practically affected all of the blocks between 1st and 2nd Aves. from 23rd to 33rd Sts, except for a row of townhouses that remain on the south side of 30th Street.

@ValerieBottenus
@ValerieBottenus 10 месяцев назад
The reputation you are likely referring to is something that has not been the case for about three decades now. New York City has crime rates far lower than pretty much any other U.S. city you can name. On top of that, the whole world is here---people, theater, activities, restaurants, music and dance, history, gorgeous parks, museums, and a WALKING city where you actually see people who are not in their cars. Give it a try! I've been here my entire life, am 61, have traveled extensively, and will never leave. It's the best place on earth!
