The other paths in this race are pretty much luck. When you get on the moving branch (rail) it will move you to a certain path depending on where it's pointing when you get off. The tree rails in the volcano will bring you to either the bottom path or the top path, depending on which one you choose. If you get the top, it's easier to fly to the floating platform with a boost pad. NOTE The rails change every time you go to time track! One rail could bring you up to the top path one time in a race here, but bring you to the bottom path next time.
