Kirby Enemy names are Weird 

Haley is a comet-shaped enemy named after Haley’s Comet! Which still doesn’t explain Joe.

I really hope the Torpedo enemy's name from Kirby 64 isn't their legal name. Otherwise... Oh, man, poor guy.

I just feel like there was some sort of enemy meeting, Y’know, just to document all these fellas, and king dedede just went “name?” Expecting their representative to say the species name. And then along came that one shark called Joe.

That might be because in Japanese, the movie Jaws is pretty well known and you can kinda use it colloquially to refer to sharks (similar to how people would in english). Anyways, it’s written as “ジョーズ (Joozu) which sounds exactly the same as how youd pronounce “Joe’s”.

I’d imagine it like: “Where’s Joe?” 5 Joes: “Here.” “No, Joe.” 5 Joes: “…” “Joē.” Joē: “Oh, here.” Basically, all the Joes have a very slight difference in how they’re said. Similar with Dale and Co. For the Waddle Dees and stuff, they have actual names but the species name is Waddle Dee. It’s like how when you see a horse it’s like “Oh, a horse.” but if a horse sees a horse it’s like “Oh hey Gerald.”

I kid you not, Super Mario Land has a shark enemy with boxing gloves who is also called Joe. Super Mario Wiki claims this is a reference to _Jaws,_ which is pronounced ‘Joze’ in Japanese, and _Ashita no Joe,_ a manga about a boxer. It seems like the SML design team consists of nerds, but most people already figured that out when they saw the ‘Jason Mask with Legs’ enemy.
