I usualy just pressed up, and then jumped in the air, and pressed the right/left button, and or A to throw it at my enemies to combine the powers.

8:27 How do you remove Kirby's power in the 20th Anniversary Crystal shards ? I keep pressing down one but nothing happens. :/

Ah ok. Got it. It's Minus and the big A button. Thanks! :)

Try pressing buttons like Minus, A, or B. I can't remember which one it is because I went back and I'm playing the earlier games slowly currently.
