I remember this performance well. Three months before this I literally ran into Dame Kiri in the hallway of the very first place I saw her in person. I remember thinking I was so glad she was not hurt because I knew she would be doing this! She kept asking if I was ok. I was too much in awe and shock because I could not believe it was happening. We were both laughing about it and she was telling me how much Florida was like New Zealand. Such a lovely person.

This moment needs to be perfectly captured in a movie scene. Also, aren’t we going to speak about the orchestra? It’s maturity and warm, uniform and convincing sound!? Amazing.

La soprano Kiri Te Kanawa, nacida en Nueva Zelanda, es Dama de la monarquía británica...y aparece en este concierto con la asistencia del príncipe Carlos...muy joven...y hoy día Carlos III...rey de Inglaterra...!!!

Fab dress - I saw her sing this about 10 years later in a concert in Scarborough and it was exactly the same. I saw her twice in Scarborough in the north of England and she was singing high Bs and Cs in the most amazing way. It was a once in a life time thing twice!

@@davidallen3687 I like Art is Calling for Me as well! A fun song. I enjoyed the time I spent going to see Kiri. I live in Florida where I was born and saw her here the first time. Then the Washington DC opera, Royal Festival Hall in London, 3 cities in the US, back to the UK for two events in Scotland, to Barcelona for the Four Last Songs, to Iceland for a recital etc. Many years and about 35 performances from the UK to New Zealand ending with her 70th birthday at Covent Garden in 2014. She is retired in New Zealand with her husband having sold her Lewes home.

A great soprano and all that, ya, I know. But she rushed the lyrics. Between each of the lyric phrases, there's s definite PAUSE. It conveys that it's in the hot southern summer, when everything SLOWS. She sounded like someone who wanted to get through the song relatively fast.

This is a nice big sound to wake/shake the baby. Compared to the superb Glyndeboune Opera version ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O7-Qa92Rzbk.htmlsi=NUGXXSguBATM32M- her lack of subtlety and taste spoils this gentle lullaby.
