A tip on opening a stubborn cork. Tip the bottle upside down to wet the cork. Then once rightside up use a gentle twist to break the, what I call, sugar seal then pull up. I'm just now getting into the rum scene myself and I find Jamaican rums to be FUNKY!
Nice review! Couldn’t get into the 12/18 after having the 23! Luckily here I can find the 23 at $50. It’s so delicious, rich caramel, vanilla, coconut, and banana. Tastes like a tropical vacation! Cheers 🥃
I throw the 12 over a couple big cubes. Picked up the 18 today and it hits different so I think it’s a neat for sure to appreciate what’s happening. You get the same effect though if you mellow the 12 on a cube.
Unfortunately we only have the 12 in PA and i didn't think it was all that good. When i get in a mood for sipping rum (not too often) i usually get the Zacapa 23. That's about $50 here. Cheers and thanks for another great episode.
Thank you for comparing these rums. I have had the 12 year for a few years now and after I tried it I didn't think too much of it. I'm glad to know that I'm not alone. I'm definitely going to give the 18 or 23 a shot if I run across them.
I thought the exact same thing about the 18 having a better nose! The 23 almost drinks like Blantons to me because it’s so smooth and mellow. But I find I enjoy the 18 much more because it just has something extra to it.
I'm not really a rum person. Don't really like it when it's an accent on whiskey. But...maybe it's because I've not had a really good one? Sounds good the way you all explained it.
Good to know as I enjoyed the 12 with my cigars and was undecided about the 18 and 23.. The only suck thing is the cork packaging.. I too have spilled the 12 many times.. I'm just going to be dumping it into a decanter.
I’m getting a bottle of 12 delivered tomorrow and I’ll try the 18 and 23 later. Possibly get the elderado 12 and diplomatico exclusiva next month. Rum got me drinking Bourbon and I’ve found I love the wheated bourbons best. Sipping on Bulleit right now, but am going to pick up some four roses single barrel as I’ve heard great things as.
Brent Parks they are all nice rums. It’s very noticeable on the palette from the 12 to the 23. The extra time makes that rum go from ehh to wow! Also if your delving into bourbons wheated bourbons that are usually very easy to get are Larceny, Makers original and 46. I’d have to say Four Roses was one of the most enjoyable tours we did on the Bourbon Trail in November. If you enjoy Bullet you will probably enjoy Eagle Rare it’s a favorite of mine along with Buffalo Trace. When you get time check out my video on “New to Whiskey “ I think you’ll enjoy it. Cheers 🥃
I'm thinking I got a bum bottle. I tried it and it has a terrible taste of chemicals whenever I take a sip. Even in coke it tastes very strong of chemicals. Almost plastic that is burning.
Yikes , you must have have got a bad batch. Thats a shame. Its a sweet rum normally. Hopefully you get a different experience next time you try a different bottle. Cheers 🥃
