My third grade teacher used to play this for us before EVERY TEST so that we can clear our minds and do well on each test. Can you imagine a bunch of 3rd graders singing along to seal lol. Its the greatest memory I have of her. I will never forget her. I appreciate that she taught us to relax during high stress situations and to just breathe. My ability to stay cool calm and collected during high stress situations is because of Mrs McBee. I'll be 30 next year and this song always makes me flash back to 3rd grade. I can even remember where I sat in class and what the classroom looked like just by listening to this song. As soon as the song ends, I can't remember ANYTHING.
Warner Bros: Hey Seal, wanna do a song for our mediocre Batman movie? Seal: Eh, aight I'll do it. *Makes One Of The Best Songs Of the 90's and his entire career.*
Ben Jacks A lot of people leave “Here from Game Grumps” comments - But I particularly love this one because it makes absolutely no direct reference to the Grumps. It’s just a completely random nonsense phrase to anyone but a select group of people, and that select group is laughing our asses off.
But it feels like a long time ago. For example, the years 40yr old and a 45yr old don't seem that far apart in terms of age, but a newborn and a 5yr old seem really different.
There is NEVER the word “grave” in this song. It is always “grey” (or gray). It is a metaphor for his gloomy life before she came and brightened his day as a simile of a beautiful rose contrasted upon grey. It gives the grey purpose as a contrast to the beautiful kiss of a lovely red and green rose.
The grey is a state of apathy, I think. I mean, when I'm depressed and apathetic, everything feels dull and gray, get me? A kiss from a rose on the gray might be the splash of color in an otherwise dull life. Maybe.
"Kiss from a Rose" was written in 1987, several years prior to the release of Seal's eponymous debut album from 1991. After writing the song, Seal felt "embarrassed by it" and "threw the tape in the corner". Seal did not present it to producer Trevor Horn until the recording sessions for Seal II. In 2015, Seal said of the song: "To be honest, I was never really that proud of it, though I like what Trevor did with the recording. He turned that tape from my corner into another 8 million record sales and my name became a household name."
@Belvedere Jehoshaphat Honeycutt So true Batman Forever had Kiss from a Rose and U2 Thrill me kiss me. And yes Batman and Robin has Gotham City, one of my favorite songs.
When I hear this it reminds me of a medieval fantasy story in an alternative world. Not Batman! Especially right at the beginning vocals of the song. I can just see castles and walled towns. It's the way the music and the way the lyrics are done. It just screams elves, dwarves, dragons, other fantasy creatures, sorcerers, kings/queens, princes and princesses. Am I only one who thinks this. Perfect fantasy music.
The best interpretation is that you ended up falling in love when you thought all was lost. You gave up and fell into darkness. She came into your life and became your savior. Your light.
@@bossman-vj3dz that's not all it's about. "Now that your rose is in bloom, the light hits the gloom on a grey" refers to a girl's first period, try to deny it and you'll fail every time when coming up with a different meaning.
well, like... i grew up with this song in bits of my life and i always would sing this in walmart or something when it was playing but i always forgot the name lmao
I knew this song because my dad used to always sing it to me when I was younger, I just forgot about it. But then I watched vacation and started listening to it again.
I myself grew up on slayer, Celtic frost, Megadeth and the misfits and such, but always loved a great ballad by anyone...try some Tierra, their cover called Together
Britta: "Oh. Hey, Jeff. Did you know when it snows my eyes become large.. Everyone else but Jeff: "..And the light that you shine can be seen Jeff: "He tweeted it?" Everyone else but Jeff: "BABY, Jeff: "HE TWEETED IT!!!!! "
One year ago today daddy you died. This was one your favorite songs. I played this for you in the hospital while you slept still in a Coma. I dedicate this to you daddy. I love you 2-18-2018. “NOW THAT YOUR ROSES HAVE BLOOMED” ....🌹🥀
MAAAAN 😪 This song has soo much more meaning to it over these last couple years.... Always manages to get me deep in my feelings.... Cousin took me to see that batman when it came out then it became my mom's favorite song. Always loved it. Then having them both pass within a year of each other just ends up having me ball my eyes out 😭 ALWAYS WILL BE A GREAT ASS SONG!
how did he come up with this song?? the lyrics are so intricate, what a mind he has..... its almost like how you wonder how MJ came up with Billie Jean. Its almost like the lyrics just dance into their minds.
The story of Billie Jean is common, no imagination needed but he sure did a great job performing it. Similar to Sorry Miss Jackson. One is where the woman wants money, the other wants the money and the kid.
Mine too. Back when Batman could still be a tad bit tongue in cheek. Now he has to be a fucking Manic Depressive Detective and everything has to be completely serious...
The vocal layering, chord progression are one of the most soulful things I’ve heard in a song in general. This song always had some type of magic in my childhood. Especially things like 4:01. Idk what Rick beato type scale that is, but it’s so beautiful
Lol 20 something years, I’ve been singing it like that. Not gonna change. I prefer the imagery of a gravestone on a hill, a single rose growing in front of it. And when the rose finally reaches the grave and its petals touch the concrete, Seal bursts out of the ground in Jesus pose, white open shirt billowing in the wind, and says “BAAABY....”
My headphone wires are all messed up and I have to hold them in a certain position to make them work and this was the last song I listened to before throwing them away
Me too friend. I'm 32 and a half and the 90's will be up there with the 80's, 70's, and all the other memorable time periods. We had our own unique sound/music, movies, and culture. It's truly not the same anymore.
I never got this song until now. The rose is her and he's the grey. I was in the grey until recently I got lucky and a rose bloomed. The more I get of her the stranger it feels in a good way!

actually dude, youre a legend. i want them to do a duet of this song so badly. ive never heard the song before and hearing them sing it was enough for me to look it up and ive been hooked for hours now
This flawless lyrical and musical masterpiece remains the best song and best blend of vocals and instruments my blessed ear has ever listened to on planet earth... I had to learn this song in 1995 and I performed it in so many shows and birthday parties as an MC and music lover... I still listen to this song and sing it weekly as though it is a worship song for me that feeds my soul and spirit with an unstoppable energy to do great exploits. I am blessed to be alive today, still enjoying the legend in this song, also praying to meet the legend seal in person and perform a duet with him on stage, cos I have composed six(6) different songs that I am sure he will sing perfectly and make more headlines. Yeah I am a gifted yet unknown music composer and poet...
....when it snows my eyes become wide.... And the pill line ...That's about Drugs I got that part when the song came out....But yea man you guys are right this song is about a love affair with Cocaine I just realized that. Being one of the people that used it in the late 80's and early 90's I can relate for sure. Still one of the most Beautiful songs ever produced and Seals Voice well...just fantastic on this track.
This is the kind of song that is so damn good that you will never forget it and every time that you hear it you're going to sing it because it's one of them songs 💋💯
I hate when this beautiful symbolic song is not realized as it should be. The setting is a Medieval Castle with a protruding graying tower standing alone beyond the fortified castle walls. The grey, (with an e) is a term used to describe the grounds extending out from the castle walls, so named because this area is typically desolate & devoid of life except for scrub plants. The song begins by relating that there used to be a tower standing alone until "YOU" became the light on the dark side of "ME". This entry verse is what makes this song so great!! The graying Tower symbolizes man and his life's quest to find that special love which when realized is the most meaningful thing in life.
POPINCONEJO88 Me too, it took me back to when the song came out because I hadn't heard it in ages. Made me think I had to hear it again, but forgot about it until a few minutes ago when the trailer came on the tv. I hope that movie is as good as it looks.
I dont think I can ever listen to this again without filling in the instrumentals with jesus loves marijuana and going an octave higher to hit the Dean's notes😂
